Flex Time Editing
May 3, 2013
Flex Time Editing is a function in Logic that allows you to sync up, Quantize, rythymic audio parts like guitars or banjos to the timing grid, and also to tighten up solo or harmony vocals and lead parts. Steve H. and his assistant Igor explain the Flex Time in 30 video presentations and they do a very good job. If you are like me, you will need to follow along slowly with your own recording project. I think I missed a couple of important points, like "Phase Locked Flexing..." and "Q-Referen...

Moving Forward with Cubase 7
Apr 27, 2013
I give 5 stars for content but 3.5 for leaving PC users out in the cold. Clearly this is meant for Mac users although a few references to Windows are used. Although the racks, mixers, etc., look the same on each OS, menus are very different. There is a lot of reading between the lines needed which shouldn't happen with a paid for tutorial. Yet, I learned a lot but grew tired of guessing

"...no longer contemplating buying any 3rd party drum machine software.." This line from another review here is also how I feel. Vocal Production and Arranging
Mar 3, 2013
The arranging ideas were interesting and nicely presented. I felt there could have been a little more information in regards to the production side. Panning is mentioned but he does not say where he pans the tracks in the stereo field. Would have been nice to see/hear how he eq'ed the vocal tracks. A presentation of his use of compression, delay, reverb would have been nice as well. In the end, it seemed to be rather short.

Jim Kanter and Dan Moughamian are both easy and pleasing to listen to and stick solely to the task of demonstrating each section of Photoshop unlike most of the other Ps trainers who waste my listening time with trite remarks. I bought 6 of the Ps videos and am delighted to have them on hand for reference.

Even for those of us who know our way around synth architecture, this course has really helped maximize my time with DIVA as opposed to wasting it aimlessly tweaking. This course should be bundled with each copy of DIVA. ;-) Hope to see more tutorials featuring u-he's sonic masterpieces...Zebra2.5 perhaps?

Diva Demystified
Feb 23, 2013
Fantastic introduction to this deceptively complex analog-modeled synthesizer. Rishabh follows through on each lesson by explaining and demoing each function he describes. I've owned and used Diva for over a year now and have read the official manual a couple times (and view the Diva video tutorials available on uheplugings YouTube channel), however I was still able to learn a thing or two from watching Rishabh's tutorial despite my time with the synth. The cool thing is that I even got inspired...

Recording Vocals
Feb 21, 2013
All the people who want that in this tutorial needs to be more shown how you set up an EQ for the Vocals, did not understand what a great vocal recording should be. This are very special tips that you only get from good engineers. And when you want a really good vocal recording, then yes, it has to be so much product specific. There is a reason why these products became so famous. To internalize this tipps is the best way to start good sounding vocals in my opinion

So I went to the manual, over 1030 pages and tried to make some progress and thought fine, in about 2 years I might figure this out. Then I ran into MacPro. I've got to say it was the best thing I've ever done. Martin is a pleasure to listen to, very informative and concise. Well thought out and logical. I've actually tried other tutorials and liked...

Working With MIDI
Feb 20, 2013
Hi, The tutorial is great. The explanation is Christal clear. The only thing I disliked my experience is that you assume that the full version of Cubase is installed. It took me a long time to figure out that in Cubase 6 Elements for example there are no lanes available. This could be avoided by mention it in the instruction or to indicate when offering the course that the course is written for Cubase 6, Cubase 6 Artist or Cubase 6 Elements. This prevents much searching and frustration.

Another nice Reaper tutorial from Gary, that contains many tricks that can enhance your workflow. The seasoned Reaper user will know most of this, but there are still some little jewels that you find in this tutorial that will help your productivity (for me, it's setting the volume of an item straight from the track, and the mouse modifiers). Some of these techniques have been introduced in the previous tutorials, so you may find yourself skipping quickly to the next chapter. But still, th...

Analog Synthesis in a Digital World
Feb 9, 2013
This is a wonderful tutorial presented by a master who, sadly, died in December, 2012. It's unusual for so much "sideband" information to be conveyed by a person's tone of voice -- which is pretty much all we have here -- but Lainhart's love and enthusiasm are always part of the mix. My only criticism is the ill-advised switch to a digital synth and away from the Moog virtual analog environment that is so very, very useful for conveying the concepts this tutorial deals with. Consistency would ha...

I am a big fan of the MPV site as a whole. I try to log on every day and spend some time learning something new. Its great for harnessing new skills and strengthening your overall knowledge base. That being said, I think OS courses are a perfect way to stay up to date with all the new features (some of them being hidden) in these updates that seem to come quicker than we can handle. Great tutorial. Toby's an excellent guitarist (makes me want to play!) and his demonstrations are extremely clear. Feb 5, 2013
I thought this was a very interesting tutorial. I liked that we experienced sitting through listening to the song multiple times. Engineers do that. I think the introduction to outboard gear was informative, although now I want to spend more money on gear.

Demystifying Game Audio
Jan 31, 2013
This is a great introduction to how game audio works. The basics are all covered pretty well and, despite having already some experience with game audio, some loose ends have been tied up for me. I think one piece that might be missing is career advice, which I felt was alluded to but not explained. Specifically, developing relationships with developers, which I find is a unique challenge for audio professionals due to the sheer ubiquity of our presence in comparison to other disciplines.

I've seen the few youtube finger drumming lessons that Jeremy has come out with and wished there was more... When I saw the e-mail come through from mac pro video that he had released a class I dropped everything I was doing to go through it. Having gone through it, (to me) it's worth a years worth of subscription for the exercises in this one lesson.

Jan 27, 2013
I've listened to most of Core 101 and I'm finding it very informative and entertainingly motivating. And that's as this material should be. Martin's delivery is outstanding! After completing the first view I intend to work with each chapter alongside the tutorial in step by step fashion. All lot is already staying with me as I am feeling a much better understanding of the whole process. I think this is happening because your thorough coverage of the minute details is presented and organized a...

Dynamics
Jan 27, 2013
The video narrator seemed to know his compressors and to which application they were best at. The examples though seemed a little hazy as he would interrupt them (while turning unit on then off to show difference) and state which part we should point our attention to, AFTER spending 30 seconds or so comparing. It would have been better to point out what to listen for before the example started in some cases. Only touched on some subjects of compression, multiband, buss etc. Did not explain the M...

Video Post in Pro Tools
Jan 25, 2013
After viewing a number of excellent MacPro tutorials on other subjects, I was disappointed in this one. There are some good tips about useful key commands and ways to work more quickly but not very much that's specific to video post. It would have helped to have a real project instead of the corny video clips that were used.

Moving Forward with Cubase 7
Jan 25, 2013
These videos are mostly a good introduction to the new features of Cubase 7, although a few, especially the last two and a lot of the introductory section, seemed to be stating the obvious. My only real complaint is the NED player, which is terrible. It usually cuts out before the end of the video and after a few uses stops working completely, needing to be reinstalled to get it working again. I know this is primarily a Mac site but it does claim to cater for PC users also, and the ability to...

When I checked out the first few vids, I thought it was sooo hilarious! These guys were in totally different worlds. The producers and songwriters were obviously not familiar with making hiphop.. The mixing and recording tips and ideas were second to none. This was a really great watch! Good job MacPro

Thanks for a really great course. I've come further with Logic in 2 weeks after switching from Cubase. The tempo is quite slow which gives you plenty of time to try out the features while listening as the video progresses. The length of the video's should be longer in some cases but in general it is great to have these small bursts of information.

Core MainStage 2
Jan 21, 2013
Great tutorial! Very cool that Mr. Burgess had the experience of working with Apple on Mainstage, so right off the bat this gives him credibility. Indeed, this was an extremely informative tutorial, taking me from having no idea how to use Mainstage, to now setting it up with my GiO and developing a rig for myself. But beyond all this, what made this tutorial stand out was Bill's presenting style. He levels with the non-geek, and has a really good, dry sense of humor. Several times I f...
