I agree with Lung. This tutorial would better be named "UA's Compressors - An Overview" or something along those lines. It's not an in-depth look at how compression works and it doesn't provide an analysis of the sound examples of each compressor. Absolutely Brilliant! Well explained, not too much or too little, and some good examples of the actual pieces used being put through their paces.

The title UA: All About Compression is a bit of a misnomer, as it is neither a detailed study of compression as an artistic process nor is it an in depth review of the history of these devices. Rather, it would be more aptly named, UA: Compressors. It's a bit redundant at times and some of the source materials that were being compressed where re-purposed (they can be heard on UA's own DVD). Great introduction to UA compressors. Would be wonderful to have similar tutorials for other brands as well. And perhaps also for reverb, eq etc.

This is excellent for anyone wishing to to gain a knowledge of compression. Although it is aimed at those who own a UAD product you aren't forced to own on to get a good idea about how to use compression. I have a Liquid Mix which has convolutions of many of the compressors emulated by UAD and have found the tutorials on each compressor very informative. I'm sure that this will improve my mixes.

Great tutorial! I actually don't own any of the UA compressors and I still learned some very useful information regarding compressors (even after having used them for years!). Great examples, and even more importantly, it's great to finally HEAR these comps in action and how differently they each can shape the same sound source! Loved it!

Pretty good video. I have almost all the UA compressor plugins mentioned so it's directly applicable. Very clearly explained. Most parameters on each unit were explained. it would have been simply outstanding if all the compressors were demoed on the same sources, and the number of sources was increased to include Bass, drums, ac / el gtr, piano and vocal - especially classic combos like Fairchild on Vocals. all in all a very good investment.

An excellent introduction to compression, limiting and expansion using UAD's plugins. I found the tutorials to be entertaining, clear and concise. They certainly give you confidence in choosing and using compressors for various audio situations.
