Martin Sitter
“Apple's original courseware author for Logic Studio, Soundtrack Pro, & DVD Studio Pro, Martin Sitter is a best-selling technical writer, and the founder of macProVideo.com!”
Biography
Most people know me from the Apple Pro Training Series.
I started teaching in 2001, at the Vancouver Film School. There, I taught DVD-Video design and Audio Mastering.
During that period, I also began designing and authoring Apple's official courseware for Logic and DVD Studio Pro, in the Apple Pro Training Series.
In 2003 I left the Vancouver Film School to become Apple's Lead Trainer for Logic. In that capacity, I traveled to many of the world's premier universities and multimedia schools, training Professors and Instructors in the official "Apple Method" of teaching their applications (a method I designed, through my work creating Apple's courseware).
During that period, I started macProVideo.com and released our first DVD Studio Pro and Logic video-tutorials.
In 2005 I stopped teaching for Apple, and turned my focus entirely to macProVideo.com. While I continue to write courseware books for Apple, these days my focus is on video-based education.
I live by the principle that efficiently commanding your computer can create dramatic shifts in your life. Here's some examples ...
Software now gives everybody the ability to create, mix, and master music that sounds as good as songs on the radio. Video editors use Macs to make box-office hits. And happily, Apple users have been given a front row ticket to the show:
With an Apple computer, anyone can tell their story!
I created macProVideo.com to make the story-telling easier. Our tutorial videos show you how to use software through moving pictures, and sound. Learn quickly and then spend your time creating stories, instead of dreaming about them.
Welcome to macProVideo.com!

Then a light came up in my head - macprovideo - I went on their page, bought the tutorial, watched it, did what Martin said, and my project was done. The information contained in this video is priceless for newcomers to Logic. Martin covers fundamental sound principles that anyone entering the DAW world should know and experts should revise often. I keep coming back to this video it's a great mix of an introduction to the structure and function of Logic with a well laid out format to suit beginners and advanced users. Thanks Martin!

It's extraordinary to gain such superb insight into the intricacies of Logic, and I thank you for that Martin and co.. What's even more incredible is the financial accessibility. For $25 per month or $200 per year, the value of knowledge and 24/7 availability is just sensational, and is effectively a 'music power to the people' that compliments that same everyperson opportunity Mac themselves offer with Logic. Sincere thanks and gratitude to macProVideo.

This is a fantastic overview of the basics of Logic, with occasional glimpses of the huge depth the software has to offer. It's helped me to get started, while also encouraging me to explore the in-depth features. As a British viewer, I'll admit that I found Martin's accent a little... odd to start with. But I got over that pretty quickly. It's a voice I'd happily spend 7½ hours with for teaching of this quality.

Being new to DAW recording and Logic as well as only have ever using PC instead of MAC, I found that the learning progress was slow, cumbersome and quite frustrating. My source of tutorials was resorting to youtube which is rather patchy but at least it got me started. SO I was asked to write a review...Hummm as they say in French, "les gens heureux n'ont pas d'histoire". Meaning happy people don't have stories to tell or in other words you never hear them complaining. That's my problem with all the videos I purchased from MacProVideo. They are all so clear, so detailed and so user friendly to use that one dives right into becoming an expert and we forget to thank the teacher. Where can I put my apple I brought for you teach??? Best purchase decision I could have made. I was "getting by" pretty good with Logic, having switched over from ProTools, but didn't feel I was using the program to its full potential. There were also a few areas that were a little rough for me. The video cleared up all the uncertain areas, got me MUCH more comfortable with the program, and showed me a LOT of very important functions and techniques - and I'm not talking about things like keyboard shortcuts, either. I'm talking about highly usable...

Coming from ProTools, Logic looks like a jungle with all the knobs and drop-down menu's. And just one look at the 1.000 pages printed manual makes me want to go outside and mow the lawn instead. I have only been able to watch the first few sections, and I love how detailed and simple it starts off. He's so clear with everything, it feels so easy to learn... so far! My one concern is that even though I've only watched about half of the sections of the 1st chapter, the subject matter seems to jump around in a way that seems a bit illogical, but perhaps that's because I don't know how it all ties in yet. I can give a more accurate review later.

I've only gotten through half of the training program, but so far, so good. I upgraded (on an extreme level) from FL Studio to Logic Pro 8. I simply like creating music for my own pleasure and amusement, particularly classical. Logic Pro 8 seemed huge at first, after watching the tutorials, I realized that was still true, but also that it was also very easy to work with. And I put together a piece in an hour that sounded better than any previous tracks I made on I made on FL studio that would take me up to weeks. As far as what I got from the tutorials, I learnt m...

I completely agree with Micheil Reid's comment (Aug31,08). There is no mention of using STP with video! After looking through the content list of the tutorial I thought the sections would be related to video stuff but there seems to be an emphasis on music. Martin even calls the dialogue in a video clip, at one point , "vocals". It seems to me this tutorial is incomplete - also picked up by Micheil Reid. There is a few mentions of things that will be covered "later in the tutorial" and ...

Martin presents the information in a concise and logical fashion (no pun intended). But what really sets his tutorials apart are certain points of information which he calls attention to. I have found that taking note of these, which might easily be overlooked if just mentioned in passing, has helped me better understand the paradigm within which the creators of Logic architected the program. This has helped me make leaps of understanding that would have taken much more time had Martin not illus...

As a beginner, the tutorial fit the purpose of what I needed it for. Occasionally some sections could have been slower and I feel that if I hadn't have had the knowledge of how to use Garageband I may have struggled with some of the more technical sections. However, the person who took the tutorial was very well spoken and entertaining and kept me interested 99.9 percent of the time. If I was to suggest something to better the program I would say to put in pause sections where the person watc...

The interfase is clear and the so the explanations. this has all the contents of a good printed manual but with the advantages of not having to read 500 pages (in 3 weeks you can learn what would take 4 months). just two things I dont like so much: 1.doing the dowload is a bit complicated. 2. the song used for the tutorial is really a demo song, I mean, I would have prefered something more real and rock oriented.

The following are my comment: 1) The ending of this training seems abrupt. The last topic is "Analyzing Audio clip" and it has ended just that. There is no conclusion to the training, no information on conforming the audio back to FCP etc. Felt unhappy with the way the training has ended. 2) Soundtrack Pro, as mentioned in the video too, is specifically designed for editing and enhancing the audio component of a video clip. Yet more than half of this video focuses on creating music with A...

It is exactly what I have been looking for, and it goes even further: thanks for the sound explanations (wave forms, frequencies, etc.) Even for a non native speaker (I'm French) it's a pleasure to follow this training course. If I had to find something to improve, I would suggest to get rid of the title page at every beginning of a chapter, it's making the vidéo longer when you play it continuously. Thanks !

I'm devouring MacProVideo tutorials at a rate of knots so look out you producers out there! The latest one I'm working my way through is the excelent Logic Pro 8 101 by Martin Sitter. Firstly, I have to admit, I just like the way these tutorials work. I tried working my way through the Logic manuals, believe me I tried! Training videos are very good, easy to understand, friendly, short lessons. Glad I purchased it, better than I expected. One thing I have noticed, I have a Mac OSX 10.5.4 and a couple of the things described and illustrated on the video do not respond the same way on my Mac. One is the spotlight window, the window you demonstrate on your Mac when you hit "option+apple+spacebar" has more features than what comes up on my Mac. There are a couple other things that do not respond the same way ...

I'm a very visual/hands on person. I absorb information much better in an interactive platform. So far Mac Pro Video has been exactly what the doctor ordered in helping me understand much more about the program than even the users manual. Things I didn't know were accessable to me to get a better understanding and use of the editing process in the program. I've had the software for a short time and have studied about 25 or so of the lessons and I'm becoming much more confident using the program ...

I've been a musician for around 15 years and have done a lot of recording. I bought Logic because I was very impressed with recordings I had been hearing that were done fully in Logic so I decided not to waste any more money on studio time and record myself. Almost finishing this one. Quality wise it is a great product, my logic pro learning curve changed from hard (reading the manuals) to really easy. Technically wise it is a great product too but i'll say a 4.5 out of 5 because the screen on the N.E.D is a little to small. Hello, This was a great tutorial for Soudtrack Pro. It gave me a good understanding of what Soundtrack Pro is capable of. However, when Martin mentioned this tutorial in his Logic 8 101 video, I assumed that it would be more about using STP as a utility for Logic. Logic Pro 8 101 is bursting at the seams with all kinds of foundational information that I didn't expect when I bought it. It's not simply an overview of Logic—it covers tons of other things that everyone who records sound needs to know. Hello, I'm happy with my purchase. The price is good and the player works well. Something that most DVD tutorials could probably improve on is the subject detail of their indexes. DVD tutorials do tend to require immersion in the whole package to learn details not necessarily apparent from the index.

I attended "analog" recording school (approx. 90 hours of instruction) about 15 years ago. I didn't realize how challenging it would be to learn Logic on my own, I struggled for a year. then I stumbled upon MacProVideo - totally awesome -- I learned in an hour what took me a year on my own. I love the layout -- I can always reference sections with the drop down menus - very handy - jammed full of great info, tips and tricks - awesome --

Fantastic learning video - I was new to Mac -- It wasn't hard to switch, however it wasn't easy either. I struggled with some basic pc to Mac functions-- left on my own it took to long to figure out advanced functions, this video really helped maximize my Mac. I totally recommend this video -- MacProvideo to the rescue -- way better than reading a book

Custom Menu Templates
Mar 18, 2008
I needed to produce a custom DVD menu. DVDSP has many templates, but I needed a certain look on this project. Watching the MPV tutorials help sort through the many options of DVDSP and made making a custom template very easy. And I actually understood what I was doing in the process....Thanks MPV!

DVDSP has tons of options and can be configured for many striking chapters, buttons, and effects. Mac Pro Video helps sort out all of these options with clear descriptions of each one. I highly recommended MPV tutorials. I especially like them because they are a video tutorial, it is much easier for me to understand a video than read an instruction manual.

I have not gone through this DVD fully, in fact have looked only at some lessons. However, I can immediately see that Martin Sitter's approach is very fresh and crystal clear. The Logic 101 video course (Core Logic 8) is laid out in a very orderly fashion while introducing the more complicated subjects later. I believe this product should have a disclaimer saying that it's "for beginners" who are "beginning to learn" about digital music. This is the second logic tutorial i've purchased. Like the tutorial series for 7, this one is great. It touches on everything you'd need to know to get familiar with Logic 8. The only criticism I can offer is that the series seems pretty heavily weighted on loop based production. Generally good quality and useful information. Don't like the infomercial for loops from your sister site. Don't like the repetition from one video to the next on occasion. The clips are only a minute or two long and it feels like valuable time is wasted repeating the same info over again instead of assuming (rightly) that I have just watched the previous video and expect it to flow into the next. I recently upgraded to Logic 8.My level of expertise with Logic being very basic, I searched everywhere for tutorials.I have some books I was working from - and they are fine - but I have to say the macPro videos are just brilliant. I find them really clear and very concise. Seeing the various operations taking place right in front of me, with everything explained is such a help. Also, it is so easy to pinpoint the particular event I wish to learn. Top marks! Thanks very much David

Just finished working through the program and found it very helpful. Being a Singer/Songwriter I would have liked more info on Audio Editing Tips & Tricks and maybe one lesson on Vocal Pitch correction. It was obvious that Angel/Allison's vocal needed some help and then in last couple of lessons it HAD been corrected - it would have been nice to have walked through the process as her pitches were corrected.

This training is great for a novus engineer. It teaches both Logic and the basics of engineering and sound. For experienced engineers, this training wastes a great deal of time on very basic things (eg. sine waves, phase cancellation, what digital converters do, etc.) Many engineers, who are very experienced with other DAWs, are now taking a look at Logic for the first time because of its new features, great sound quality and pricing. Therefore, you may want to include a summary section th...

An excellent introduction to Logic Pro. I'd not used Logic before and was quickly able to start using it. I particularly liked the way the videos explain some of the crucial background principles (like waveforms, frequency, etc.) that other books leave out. There's some really invaluable information here. A much nicer way to learn than the huge stack of books that comes in the box! Thank you!

The tutorials are well planned and presented. Martin is especially good at narrating what he's doing and why (and how else you might do it), even for simple operations. This means that just watching him work gives you a lot of familiarity with the program in just a little time. This was worth a lot to me.

I find this to be a very un-musical approach to Logic. It is not a coincidence that the tutorial begins with a sine wave, the coldest sound available. The instructor is caught in bar schemes, blocks and repetition. And he even gives musical instructions, remarks how music should be - this is totally off. Hence midi related issues have vast priority over real audio. How do I edtit a multi-track recording when the drummer is off-time or when an instrument comes in out of time - how can I fix audio...

I have all the Logic tutorials available from MPV. I have just watched the first 100 Logic 8 videos from Martin. I've already learnt a lot of new tricks even though I've been using Logic since early 2003. I guess it's pretty hard to please everyone. Not everyone will be interested in the stuff about sound, frequencies etc. or maybe the Apple loops section. I tend to record a lot of guitar and vocal parts over a basic canvas of drums and synths - yes that's right I'm in my fifties!!! - so ...

I'm digging the new tutorials. 8 appears easier to deal with than Logic 7 was! My only suggestion would be to have a very simplistic (with Logic? - Ha!) overview that would get a non-technical person started using the program. Say, a tutorial with two audio tracks and two MIDI tracks, where you create the parts for a 16-bar "song" and show how they are mixed. But then, maybe the stlll-missing parts of "Logic 101: Mastering Logic 8" will have something along those lines. Logic is SO deep and ...

When I'm editing I like to at all my track and pick and choose bits of audio and am able to hear bits and pieces , especially when I'm coming a vocal . I would have preferred starting with a complete description of what's new in Logic 8, as well as a break-down of the Arrange window. Then it would have been helpful to go through the recording process for live audio, including some of the more salient aspects of Logic's new editing options. I suspect the lion's share of your client base are pros. I found the tutorial generic.

Good tutorial for understanding and editing sound in Logic 8. However it is certainly NOT aimed at meeting the first needs of a musician who has purchased L8 in order to record and produce their own songs. Hey guys- I'm a long time logic user. Most of my gigs are composing-arrangig-producing-playig. I just got my first gig scoring a documentary. Hence my purchase....the turorial had me up and running and you predicted many of the questions I had and addressed them in a "to the point" manner. Hats off for another great video!! How about a score tutorial?! Peace Barry

Excellent product and great value for the price. I have no suggestions for improving the existing content, other than perhaps shipping tutorial files and making the next rev of the video interactive. Other thoughts : - bundle the monthly tips and tricks into individually purchasable videos at the $5.95 price point? (not sure how long these are) - harvest topics from existing videos into individually purchasable units and market similar to above. Just my .02 Shaun

Really excellent and comprehensive tutorial on Logic fundamentals. Full of good information from someone who understands workflow from the inside out. I have used an extensive number of tutorial DVDs for a variety of purposes, and I can say with absolute certainty that Mr. Sitter is flawless in the medium of DVD training. With a friendly tone that lasts all those hours, and a very personalized way of delivering the course, he makes learning the basics of Logic not only a breeze, but a pleasure. When I first saw logic, I said this music daw looks too simple. When I got logic for the first time I found out looks can be very deceiving. The program seems like a brain twister. Thanks to Martin Sitter and the whole macprovideo crew, they made me a pro in no time. I realize with macprovideos people make some things more than what it is and macprovideos shows you what you see is really what it is. Great job guys

Mr. Sitter can be proud of his work. This was a very good tutorial for an old guy trying to learn something new. Something you do a good job on, and could continue to expand, is the "therefore what?" (i.e., what follows from what is being taught). For example, you might say that this feature does this and that button does something else and the whole thing glows in the dark. Therefore, what does that mean in terms of putting together a project? Why do I want to know that? How does it ...

Excellent, thorough but ... Some voice training for your presenter would help - he speaks too fast at times, he slurs words. You are competing with professional announcers. Also there is no introduction to the keyboard. No one does this. I used this tutorial for a friend who moved over from a PC and realized that he had never known the logic of the keyboard layout. What is an enter key? Why is there a return key? What is an escape key? He was thrilled when he learned how to tab. "You mean you ...

have downloaded my copy once and have begun to explore the tutorials and they are excellent. Thank you so much for the time you have invested in them. It has made what would be a very complicated experience for me much easier. I am really looking forward to stepping up from Garageband and I can thank you for making the experience as simple and easy as it could possibly be. I am a musical hobbyist. I am an English Head Teacher and use music in my classroom, especially during poetry writing u...

was able to download the file and watched some of the Logic videos tonight and have picked up a few good tips already, particularly with the screensets. I knew what they were but I'd never used them before.

I like to tell you, that I enjoyed module 2 very much... I also studie through you book; every day a few hours and every time, over and over I learn a lot. You have a very nice way to write down things and explain them. Here in the Netherlands there are a few schools for Logic. One have to pay almost Euro 900 for three days of instructions and your book. I can't / will not afford that lot of money and believe that your book and your video lessons are even better because I can study them over...

Just watching Module 3 of the training now, and it has really made an incredible difference for me already. This training has given me a MAJOR jumpstart on this program -- the training content is exactly what I needed. I also just received my Mackie Logic Control today, so I am having a great day.

This is the best video lessons I have ever used, and I try to use as many as there are for the programs I have. Your voice and easy understanding of the program gives me an extreme jump on learning this very complicated program. Thanks again, looking forward to all the rest of your shows.

Just a quick note to thank you for the effort you've put into the Logic videos. Over the past month I've been in a crunch effort to learn Logic and they have proved to be extremely helpful in getting me up and running. I've also got both Apple Training Logic books. I've read yours and in time I will read the advanced book. But for me it has certainly been the case that seeing techniques demonstrated in video is a much easier and quicker way to learn. I'm really excited to be using Logic and ...

I am amazed at the amount of useful information in you Logic 7 complete training course. I've spent nearly 20 years in commercial production working with such companies as Walt Disney, Compaq, The Discovery Channel and Universal Studios and I have taught Pro Tools LE and Pro Tools TDM classes at Nashville State Tech Community College and Country Music Television and I wish I had, had your skill of organizing and extremely clear way of explaining the material. We live in a world full of big companies trying to make more and more money, and sometimes it just becomes too much. I get sick of it. I watched your first two modules yesterday, and have to say how impressed I was at the content and delivery of this presentation! I made nearly five A4 pages of notes which concerned topics which greatly enlightened me, despite the fact that I have been a logic user for at least six years!!! I appreciated the painstaking explanation of sub menu options etc, and found your comments regarding many dos and don'ts very helpful. I cannot wait for the next module!......

I'm a professor at Tufts University at the Boston campus and I already have your book on Logic Pro / Logic Express. I've been a PC person since the early days of personal computers and was using Cubase. Last winter I bought my first Mac, Powerbook 15, and loaded it up with 2GB of ram and Logic Express (I should have bought Pro). Your book was truly a fantastic help in getting me up and running very quickly in Logic. Having the prior Cubase experience helped as well, but the examples in ...

When I first saw the price $39.50 I was thinking that this could never be an in depth tutorial and I will probably getting a couple of short movie clips explaining me how to start and stop logic via shortcuts. Boy was I wrong! I've been soaking up Logic Pro 7 for 4 hours now and can't get enough of it. Automation, mastering and mixing tips, plugins, quantizing tricks, hidden features, recording.. I could go on but I just let Martin to it ;)

I am SO HAPPY to have found your site. I acquired Logic approximately one week ago, and have been disappointed with the reference manuals. Your videos are FANTASTIC. They are exactly what I need. I watched the first two this morning before going to work and have been thinking about them all day... I have been anxiously awaiting to get home to watch more of them. Your format is the BEST way of instruction. I cannot believe that there has been relatively little discussion regarding your videos...

I manged to download all 3 Logic programs very smoothly to Pakistan. The downloads were a lot faster then what I expected (as we dont have very stable internet connections) loved them, very explantory. For me its like heaven having these videos because i m the only one in this country using logic on a Mac with no tech support or anyone who can troubleshoot or do traning, so u can imagine the level of deprivation. But after watching these tutorials I feel like a pro ;-)

It has been a long journey for me as a former Apple employee, I made the decision to take my career to the next level and travel from Florida to California to become a certified trainer.
