I need a good workflow for importing whole audio files from outside ableton then slicing them up into many different hits that I can load into a drum rack or instrument rack... what's the best way to do this?

I can use Logic's or Sountrack Pro's audio editor from within Ableton if necessary.

Thanks for any help!

Hi CoFane,

The best (easiest) workflow I know to do this in Ableton is to use the Slice Audio to MIDI feature:

- Find the audio file in your File Browser.

- Control-click on the file and choose "Slice to new MIDI Track"

- From the dialogue window you can then choose the grid value for each slice.

- Each slice is assigned to a cell and can be triggered using your MIDI Controller.

You are an animal Rounik! I didn't think you used Live??

The method you suggested is a great one. I knew about the feature but for some reason wasn't thinking about it. One good thing about using this feature to do what I want to do that I can easily get in there and readjust each "simpler"s loop braces to my liking if it slices the audio in a way I don't want.

Thanks!

Hey CoFane,

Hee hee... well, I wouldn't call myself an avid Ableton Live user... but I dabble whenever I get time ;-)

Glad it's helped.
