audio latency

Hey gang,

Ok, I have a 3.2 Ghz Mac Pro with 4 gigs of ram. I'm on OS 10.6 and I'm using the most up to date version of Live 7. Additionally I have the APC 40 connected as well as my axiom keyboard and the Rig Kontrol pedal. I play both keys and saxophone. All of my keyboard patches work beautifully with no latency, pops, clicks...it works perfectly. However, I am running my sax into an audio channel and I have a guitar rig plug-in using the rig kontrol to change effects for my horn. The problem is that when we multitrack our rehearsals, the saxophone is like 60+ ms behind resulting in something that makes me want to stab kittens....ok, save the kitties but it really sucks and I obviously can't perform with said issue. I thought that perhaps it was a dry/wet issue and that only "effected" sounds were being recorded, but I disabled the plugins and still have the issue. Am I having a mental breakdown? Does anyone have any suggestions? I would be most grateful for some help....

Hi Steve,

What audio interface do you use ? Most audio interfaces offer no latency input monitoring. This way, you can mix the input and output of the audio interface so that you won't have to deal with unwanted latency. Of course, using this option, you will not be able to use Guitar Rig on the input. You will have to add the effect to the recording itself.

If you want to hear the plugin FX on the input, first thing to try would be to lower the buffer size under Live > Preferences > Audio

What do you see under Output Latency in this pref panel ?

Sorry for the super-delayed response.....I didn't want you to think I didn't appreciate your time. The cause of this issue is one of those situations that you would rather not admit to...Sorta like asking why the TV doesn't work only to find out it wasn't plugged in.lol
In the spirit of sharing knowledge, I will say this for anyone experiencing latency, the buffer is probably the best "first place" ot start!
