Midi Recording Issues in Cubase

I hooked up a midi controller and have routed it thru Cubase 6. I have watched all of Matt's tutorials to make sure my midi controller was recognized and active in the device setup per his video. I have went online and installed the latest drivers (I have the exact same M-Audio controller that Matt has, so his obviously works with Cubase 6). I have Windows 7 64 bit. Everything works fine as far as vst instruments being able to be played with my controller. I am getting the red (input meter) and blue (output meter) in the transport for midi readout. Everything seems to be working just fine except when I go to record a track. I cannot get Cubase to record any input signal on a Midi track after backtracking all my connections. Any help out there????
Thnx

Go into the MIDI DEVICE Manager and make sure you have setup your MIDI DEVICE (NAME OF INSTRUMENT). Make sure your MIDI device setup shows your MIDI IN/OUT connections.

Devices > Device Setup > MIDI PORT SETUP > APPLY. If your MIDI INSTRUMENTS are not logged in the MIDI PORT SETUP log, Make sure you have your MIDI CABLES placed in the correct MIDI PORTS i.e., IN and OUT.
In addition, download the latest drivers for your MIDI connector.

Above all: Make sure you have your MIDI INSTRUMENT turned on. :0)
