Steinberg Question

I am currently using Cubase 6 to record, mix, and master. I also have access to Wavelab and Halion 4, which I have not yet used. Very general question but is it worth it to learn how to use this software if I am only a home user, or is what is already bundled in Cubase enough? Will these ever be covered by Macprovideo?

It is definitely worth learning Wavelab. It has features for audio processing and analysing which are not available in Cubase.

I think the big thing to learn is the difference between Cubase and Wavelab. Cubase is a Digital Audio workstation, where you work with multiple audio and MIDI files. Here is where you edit and mix your audio tracks.

In Wavelab you are more than often working with a single audio file. Sure you can add more than one track. But the principle is that Wavelab is an audio editor as opposed to a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). It is used more in an audio processing/rendering and mastering context.

Both applications have their pros and cons. I would say learning which each application has to offer and using these features to your advantage.

It will also be good to learn Halion. Halion is an audio sampler. The techniques and principles you learn here can be transferred to any other audio sampler you may work with in the future. For example if you move over to Kontakt in the future what you have learned with Halion will be valuable.
