Background: I know very little about technology, so please keep answers as user friendly as possible :)

1) how do i transfer my garageband recording into something my pc will store?

2) when i play back my garageband recording using headphones or my ipad, it sounds fine. However, when i email it to myself and play it on my pc, theres something like a high frequency sound may be emitted with the recording. Why? Is it because I'm using the built im mic?

3) similar to question 1 above, how do i transfer my garageband recording onto a cd?

4) question about drum loops: when its the first track i'm trying to put on, why will it stop playing the loop after 8 measures or so? I tried putting that one setting on auto-on, but still, when i go to record track 2 while listening to the drum loop on track one, the drum loop stops after 8 measures or so....

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi Angelojf,

& Welcome to the macproVideo.com forums!

1. The files you create or record and save in GarageBand can be stored on any computer. Just drag the folder containing your song's files to a Mac or PC.

So you can transfer it by copying the folder to an external hard drive or USB stick. There are many ways to do this.

2. What audio player are you using to play it back on your PC?

3. Easiest way is to go to the menu at the top of the screen and choose:
Share > Burn to CD

4. I don't understand your question. Are you previewing the drum loop in the loop browser or have you dragged the drum loop from the Browser (on right side of screen) into the main area - so you can see the loop on it's own track?

Thanks & please excuse the late reply to your post!

Does the loop (in the Loop Browser) have a blue or green icon?

Try dragging the loop from the Browser into the Arrangement area (where all the tracks and their audio/midi regions (blocks) are... except drop the loop into an empty lane (one without a track already on it).

GarageBand will create a new track lane for the loop to sit on.

Next, position the mouse pointer over the top right edge of the loop (in the arrangement area). The mouse pointer should turn into a loop icon. Drag to the right to loop the ... loop!

Alternatively you can copy and paste the loop, but we can come to this later.

Hope that helps

Does the loop (in the Loop Browser) have a blue or green icon?

ACTUALLY THE LOOP ICON IS GREYISH WHITE

Next, position the mouse pointer over the top right edge of the loop (in the arrangement area). The mouse pointer should turn into a loop icon.

NOT SURE WHAT YOU MEAN BY THE 'MOUSE POINTER' BUT WHEN I TAP TO THE TOP RIGHT OF THAT TRACK, MY OPTIONS ARE 'CUT, COPY, DELETE, TRIM, SPLIT.'

thanks for your patience!

Really sorry about this. I see now that your post title says GB for iPad... I thought you were talking about the Mac version.

Back to question 4)...

Do you have the cycle mode on... does the loop end after 8 measures? Is it an audio loop or a MIDI loop?

Did you loop the region or extend the area of the region (with blank space)?

You can try copying and loop (region) and then place the playhead on Bar 8 and paste the loop.

Does this work for you?

It worked!

What I did was copy it and pasted it!

Thank You.

Can we go back to my other questions in the original post, starting with question 2 in the original post?

Great! Glad to hear it.

1) You need to transfer your project to iTunes. Basically, Tap on "My Songs" in the top left.

Now, under the image of your song are 4 icons. Tap the box with arrow pointing out of it. Choose "Send to iTunes". This will copy the entire project files to iTunes.

2) I have no idea. You'll need to give more details about your PC.

Also, in GarageBand for iPad make sure the level meter in the top is never in the red. This means the signal is clipping and can cause distortion.

3) Well, whether you use iTunes or email to transfer your song, you can create a playlist in iTunes, drag the song file into that playlist and choose the option in your version of iTunes to burn to disc.

Hope this helps

Rounik,

Thanks again for your help.

But regarding issue #2:

I don't think that the issue of the sound I'm hearing is the fault of the PC. Why? Because when I emailed a friend a song I made on the ipad's garageband, the frequency sound was apparently there too.

Do you think the fault can be because I use the built in mic, and the mic isn't that good?

Hi Angelo,

Actually, I was referring to GarageBand for iPad:

"in GarageBand for iPad make sure the level meter in the top is never in the red. This means the signal is clipping and can cause distortion."

Do check this.

Thanks

Hi:

I think it is the fault of the built in mic. I made 2 recordings just as tests, one using the built in mic, and one using the internal keyboard, and the built in mic recording emitted the problematic sound.

The level meter in one of my tests wasn't in the red.

I'm dissappointed, because most of my recordings would need a mic.

Any ideas?

Hi

You say: "The level meter in one of my tests wasn't in the red." But did the level hit the red in any of the tests?

Also, try creating a simple song with just your voice recording and send it to your PC.

What program are you using on your PC to listen to the song?

The built-in mic is not perfect or really designed to be use as a vocal mic, but I've not come across a loud, high pitch sound as a result of recording with the mic.

Have you checked to see what effects you've placed on the track with your voice?

Also, there are better microphones around you can use, and some are quite economical too:

Let me know how you get on.
