I have your soundtrack tutorial but still have a couple of questions. Do you have one that covers more of the basics for use in FCP? How would you suggest to minimize echo on a video of a speaker in a large hall?
Thanks,
JK
Another question: How do I send to an Audio File project. From FCT - File - Send To - STP Audio File Project is there as a choice but not active, I cannot select it. What do I have to do to change that?
I am working on the FCP Workflow videos ... but they won't be ready for a few weeks yet.
As for the echo issue, that's a hard nut to crack. The only real way to battle this is by using a Noise Gate. not noise reduction, but a noise gate that brings levels below a certain threshold to 0 dB.
If you set the attack and release right, you can cut off the reverb, but it will still be noticeable during the parts were the signal level is above the threshold.
in short, there is not real way to remove all of that reverb, either in STp or any other audio program.
The noise Gate in STP works alright, though you may also want to try the Waves C1 gate (waves.com). there's a free 15 day demo of it, and I've never used a better noise gate than this ... it's used in every single one of the videos we release to remove fan noise, and sometimes recordings with bad or too noticeable reflections (reverbs), similar to your situation ...
Martin, thank you for your response. I will look at waves and try to get past the learning curve, if I have enough computer to run it. That may be part of my problem. I have a 933 MHz G4, OS 10.3.9, running FCP v 5.0 with Soundtrack v 1.2. What version of Soundtrack are you using in your tutorial? I probably need to upgrade to a newer version but for the life of me can't find it. I cannot run the new v 2 on this computer. I would love to be able to send an audio clip to an Audio File Project and use all of the nifty filter effects you demonstrate, but when I try to send the audio to Soundtrack the Audio File Project is grayed out and not available. If I open my version of Soundtrack there is no Audio File Project option, just a multitrack. My work around to try next is to export the audio as an aiff file and bring that into STP. This will make some, but not all, of the filters you demonstrate available. So, I am assuming that I need a new version of STP or I am missing something. One suggestion I was given was to trash the preferences in STP to see if that helped. I appreciate any clarifications and suggestions you may have. -JK
Yeah, the tutorial is for Soundtrack Pro 2 ... most of what I cover will nt work with STP V1 ... :(
I agree that the G4 you are using would not provide a rearding experience with STP2 ... but STP 1 is still a good program!! You should be able to "adapt" alot of what I cover in the tutorial to Version 1 ... Though things like multitake recording will not be avaialble.
I was very disapointed with the soundtrack. tutorials.
As the main use of this program is for using and sending audio backwards and forwards from FCP I was staggered by the fact that it hardly touches those issues and only briefly discusses getting audio out of FCP and unless I am mistaken doesnt mention the journey the other way at all
