Merging Projects

I am a typical guy who uses software, then, much later, reads the directions. This usually happens when I've done something wrong. So during our trip to England this summer I created a new project for each day we were there, downloading all my cards at the end of the day. I thought I was doing the right thing but now realize that I should have downloaded everything into one project and created folders to organize each day's pictures.

Now my list of projects is huge and confusing. I would like to merge all my England photos into one project and delete the plethora of 'English day' projects littering my library.

I tried this using a project that had nothing but junk in it. But when I went to delete the redundant 'England Dany 2' project, it gave me a window stating that everything was going to be dumped. This scared me. So I chickened-out.

So, all that to ask, how does one merge projects together, put photos into organized folders, then get rid of the original project folder safely? By the way, I have everything backed up on multiple external drives.

Thanks so much!

Hi Sven

Great you figured it out!

Would be great if you could post your solution as this will help others in need of solutions when they search the forums in the future.

Thanks

You bet, Rounik. Silly me.

Hereâ??s how I did it. I created a new project. Iâ??ll call it Project B. I then made a â??new empty albumâ?? (command+option+L) within Project B. Then I switched over to Project A and did a â??select all,â?? then dragged and dropped those pictures into Album B within Project B. After a few seconds of waiting, all the photos were now in Album B within Project B. But they were also still in Project A. The problem was to find a way to delete Project A without deleting the masters.

The next step was to open Album B, do a â??select allâ?? and then drag and drop all the photos into Project B. A dialogue box opened warning me that if I continued, all the masters would be relocated. Since thatâ??s exactly what I wanted, I knew I had just won.

I also use Final Cut Pro and Iâ??ve found that when using these huge programs, when you want to do something like this the difficult part is finding the right terms to use. Once you know what Apple calls your problem, itâ??s easy to find the solution. But until then, you either guess and get lucky (and hope you can replicate what you just did), or you read tons of materials hoping to find the right term, then the solution.

I hope this helps.

By the way. The Aperture tutorial is great. It was money very well spent. And I love your Canadian accents. It reminds me of being back home in Minnesota where the accents are mixed.
