Hi, I like using Bridge with Photoshop but when I go to my Pictures folder I just get an icon for iPhoto Library. If I double click it iPhoto comes up.

Is there a way to access the library through Bridge? As it is I have to export from iPhoto to use a photo in Photoshop.

Thanks.

Pat

Hi Pat & welcome to the forums,

I'm not a Bridge user, but see if this helps.

Ctrl click on the iPhoto library icon.
Choose, "show package contents".
From the new finder window you can browse the originals snd/or modified folders where the pictures are.

Hi, Thanks for the suggestion. As soon as I read it I thought why didn't I think of that. But unfortunately it doesn't give that option?

So maybe it's not possible?

Pat.

Hi Pat,

My partner is able to view the iPhoto library from within Bridge as if it is a normal folder... But I've figure out a workaround which should hopefully erm... work.

1. Open a finder window and navigate to the iPhoto Library in your ~/Pictures folder.

2. Ctrl-click and select show package contents.

3. Ctrl-click on "modified" or "Originals" and select "Make Alias"

4. Move the Alias to another location on your Hard disc.

I think Bridge should be able to view your library from the alias?

Let me know if that works.

There is another possibility to help Bridge and iPhoto work together...

iPhoto normally copies pictures to it's own file structure within the iPhoto library package.

In iPhoto you can select Preferences > Advanced and deselect "Copy items to the iPhoto Library".

Now wherever the original pictures are on your Mac, they will not be copied in the iPhoto library package and can be accessed directly from Bridge...

However, I have no idea how that will work when importing pictures from a camera...

Also, did you know you can set up iPhoto to edit pictures in an external editor like Photoshop?
I know you like Bridge, but if you're interested in using iPhoto as your "Browser" then choose iPhoto > Preferences > General
and select Edit in... External Editor.

Hi, The alias idea worked fine. Thanks.

I suppose I could use iPhoto the way you suggest also. I just thought that using Bridge gives me access to all the files on my computer. Just seems like a useful app.

Thanks for the help.

Pat.
