Does anyone know where I can reset my photoshop preferences? The PS program won't open (this happened before) and I reset my preferences . . . but can't remember where to find it . . . duh!

Hi Sherry,

Welcome to the macProVideo forums!

You haven't mentioned the version of PS or whether you're using a Mac/PC... I'll assume you're using CS4/5.

To reset Photoshop's preferences do the following:
hold down Shift+Ctrl+Alt (Win) or Shift+Command+Option (Mac) when launching Photoshop. That'll reset the preferences.

:)

Hi Sherry,

Glad to hear it's all working again... Out of interest what was wrong in the first place?

No need to be ashamed! PS7 was speedy and quick if my memory serves me well. At the end of the day, if it gets the job done, that's enough :)

I have had it happen a couple of time now (in the several years) where it just wouldn't launch . . . and a computer guru told me to reset the preferences.

I currently work on a PC and slowly converting to MAC (taking a bit to get used to - but fun not frustrating) then I'll be updating my programs. Any advise in that area??

yes, that is good advice indeed!

well, it may take a little time to transition over to the Mac world. Are there specific functions you wish to replicate on your Mac which you do on the PC?

Some things are just different, like the way Windows Explorer behaves compared to the Mac Finder and Dock... but one you find your feet I hope you'll have an enjoyable Mac experience.

One of the main differences I remember when I switched is that Mac OSX is a multi-user operating system... so each user can have their account and that user is given their own folders (Documents/Downloads/Music/Pictures/ect) where they can choose to store their files. Those files are only available to that use when logged in. Knowing where these locations are is useful and will help you to stay organized. However, Applications are available for all users and stored in the same location:
HD/Applications/

Of course, I'd highly recommend the Mac OSX tutorials we offer:
http://www.macprovideo.com/tutorials/MacOSX-application
and in particular the Mac OSX 101 is the best place to start.

Also do post any questions you have in the Mac OS forum here at macProVideo, and we'll do our best to help.

Hope that helps
