I have a Powermac G5 and I just got a new Seagate internal hard drive. I had no problem installing it into the tower and now it shows in the system profiler but doesn't show up in a place where I can start using it.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

hi Brogan,

Try restarting your Mac.

Also check in Finder > Preferences...

that you have ticked the show HD/external HD on desktop and HD/External HD in SideBar.

Let me know if that helps.

Cheers

Hi Brogan,

Hope you don't mind me joining in...

To added to Rounik's sound advise, have you Formatted the Drive ?

Mac OS Extended (journaled) works well...

Let us know what helps,

Cheers, Bj

I'm afraid it hasn't helped. My older internal hard drive and external hard drives still appear on the desktop but not the new one. Thank you for your help and do you have any other ideas?

Please forgive my mac ignorance; how do you format a hard drive before having access to it? Thank you for your help.

Hi Brogan,

To format a HD go to Utilities... Disc Utility and click on the Erase Tap.

For a full description of what to do... in a Finder window click on Help and search Format in the search window.
Step by step instructions and explanations will be available for you to view.

Re your New HD not appearing... have you checked the cables and the power requirements ?
What are the Specs for the drive and how is it connected to your mac ?

HTH

BJ, if you were a man, I would buy you a beer. If you were a woman, I would kiss you.

Thank you so much, it worked perfectly.
