Recording Piano

Hello. I am recording a grand piano in a live venue. The piano already had a pickup installed when I started working this venue. It sounds awful. I would like to know if there are any excellent pickup options for acoustic grands? Would I be better served with a good single microphone on the piano? Any specific suggestions are welcome.
