Hello -

First, let me say great work on NED - I really like haveing all my tutorials in one place and look forward to what you are going to do with it in the future. Steve's idea of a subscription video is fantastic.

One thing that really comes to my mind is being able to pick up where I left off. Unless I am doing something wrong, If I stop a tutorial and come back another day, it takes me to the very first video, even though I was seven videos into the program. It would be nice to either have NED remember where I left off, or a bookmark kind of feature.

Thanks again for the great videos and keep them coming!

Hi KC,

Bookmarking is high on our priority list!! Glad you like the App though, there's some cool stuff in the works with it, so stay tuned ...

Hi Martin,

A few suggestions for NED Mac (some have already been suggested elsewhere.)

1.) Ability to download/save files to an external drive.

2.) Ability to rearrange the Tutorials list. Perhaps a hierarchical list by software program. I have a very long list and various tutorials for the same program are all over the place.

3.) Bookmarking/placeholder.

4.) Ability for NED to integrate tutorials purchased prior to NED for updates.

Keep up the good work.

Michael

Hey Michael,

These are all high on our priority list! Re. updates, that is a function of your user account itself, so if there are updates to any of the programs you currently own, they will go directly into your user account and NED will download them, regardless of if you have a "vintage" original copy or not ... :)

BTW, you can save your tutorials to an external hard drive right now, by puttin an alias to the NED folder inside your documents folder. Bit of a workaround, but there you go!

Thanks Martin,
I figured out the workaround so I'm fine but it's still a good feature to have in NED.

What does it mean in the tutorials section of our account when it says "switch to vintage?"

Switch To vintage is a method for people using OS 10.3.9, which is currently unsupported (for auto-downloads only) in NED ... though we're working on getting it to work!! Anyway, it's a temporary workaround that allows 10.3.9 users to download tutorials the old way, instead of using NED's new download manager.

I second these sugestions, using v1.0.1 of N.E.D. for Mac OS 10.4.10 (Tiger).
Not only parts purchasesed prior to N.E.D. but also purchased elsewhere, such as Peachpit Press (www.peachpit.com) Online Videos, which with Quickime Pro puglin offers the "Save as Quicktime Move..." most of the time (plagued with login isues).

It seems as if N.E.D. knows about the purchased content (after all, Peachpit had to get the content from macProVideo.com and may have linked the accounts), but I'm not enitrely sure this is occurring.

Being able to specify a 620 GB or large external, fast (7200 RPM, FireWire 800) disk is very useulf, as uploading the Online Videos into QuickTime plug-in is not instant.

And finally, way cool kudos for creating a very nice and useful environment for both platofrms, namely N.E.D. for both Mac and Windows, and great content for it !!!

Cheers,
Jay

We have nothing to do with Peachpit's system. They just license content from us and deliver it their own way.

They SHOULD be using NED, IMHO ... but that's a different story ... :)

Cool! That dispels a rather nebulous connection: content purchased elsewhere is somehow made known to N.E.D., which I wholeheartedly agree should be the viewer of choice for content from Peachpit and any other reseller of macProVideo. It's good that there are other ways to view it, but this could become unnecessarily confusing.

I recall being enticed by a special offer from Peachpit, who create great content of their own. But when augmenting their content with yours, the format differences and accessibility differences make it less appealing if ultimately they differ too much.

Another factor, already touched upon, is the Online Video the QuickTime plug-in must load each time, and the lack of a unified interface splinters the assets. Given N.E.D. works on both Mac and Win, and is purpose-built for tutorials, I've sent a polite request to Peachpit regarding their multiple QuickTime .mov file parts and the difficulty: login fails in an already secured browser session 1/4 and loading as often.

I wonder if the iTunes U (for "University) would be suitable. iTunes delivers learning content quite interactively (http://www.apple.com/education/itunesu/). A Mac/Win platform put in use at Stanford, Berkeley, Duke and Madison per the site.

Thanks again!
