I am looking at upgrading to the new MBP but would like some advice regarding whether it will run these programs or should I look at going desk top.

When I upgraded from Premiere on a PC to FCP & DVD SP on a MBP . . . I didn't get good advice and could seem to get these programs to run and I found myself doing all my video work on the PC (yech).

Model Name:    MacBook Pro
Model Identifier:    MacBookPro4,1
Processor Name:    Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed:    2.5 GHz
Number Of Processors:    1
Total Number Of Cores:    2
L2 Cache:    6 MB
Memory:    4 GB
Bus Speed:    800 MHz
Boot ROM Version:    MBP41.00C1.B00
SMC Version (system):    1.28f3
Serial Number (system):    W880944VYP3
Hardware UUID:    E2237BDF-8441-59F9-982F-E2718B9D498E
Sudden Motion Sensor:
State:    Enabled

Any help you can give me would be great . . . I do simple video (2-3 camera shoots) work - mostly weddings and dance studios.

Hi Sherry

Which Mac did you have before that wouldn't run FCP?

I would recommend getting the 15" MacBook Pro model. Not only will you get larger screen real estate (you'll thank me later ;) - but the 13" has a weak graphics card and Though it may work with FCP I wouldn't feel comfortable recommending it as a future proof solution.

Also, it features a Quad core processor. This will again make a real difference when doing any kind of video work... And more Ram capacity (very cool for video work). You can also choose to upgrade the 15" screen to an anti glare variety if you wish - this option doesn't exist for the 13".

The 13" may still work fine. I don't have any experience using FCP on it... So can't say with any authority... But the 15" contains the next generation of processor and I'd highly recommend it.

Hope that helps

Good Morning . . . when I bought my MBP three years ago, I purchased the best I could get . . . but much to my dismay it didn't have the power to run DVD Studio Pro. Now I can finally upgrade again and I was considering the desktop version . . . but was told that the MBP has the power to run it . . . especially with the "thunderbolt" technology.

So whether this is 15 or 17 . . . I'm understanding that the new MBPs will handle all the functions/programs/processing that FCP/DVD Studio Pro.

Have a grand day!
