Neat article. Just wanted to point out that you can also create a wireless network using only your laptop using internet sharing. It works even if you aren't connected to the internet. System Preferences > Sharing > Internet Sharing. Select "Share your connection from" - Ethernet. Then check "To computers using" - Airport. Clicking on Airport Options will allow you to give your network a name and a password. Once this is all set up, you should be able to connect to this network with your iphone, etc.
