Earth Day 2011 & NonLinear Educating

April 22nd 2011 is Earth Day. Coming from Vancouver Canada, NonLinear Educating Inc. and macProVideo.com are immersed in some of the most splendid nature and forests you can imagine and as such I am reminded every day how precious and amazing our planet is. If I look out the back window of our office here in downtown Vancouver, I can see across the bay to the lush green forested mountains of the north shore ... and every time I look out there I feel blessed to be living in a place with such amazing natural beauty.
I love the earth we live on, and as a company, it's important to me that NonLinear Educating Inc. does everything it can to keep its carbon footprint as low as possible. Indeed, our environmental focus is part of our company's mission statement:
As a recovering technical author, it has always bothered me how much paper is used to print a book. And on top of that, books are heavy and require disproportionate quantities of fuel to ship them around the world. Technical books, in particular, are tied to software releases ... when new software comes out, all the old books become irrelevant and are shipped to the landfill, to make room for newly printed books on the store shelves. It's a massively wasteful industry.
I designed the Nonlinear Educating System® as an alternative to the classic book publishing model. For starters, it lets you SEE & HEAR how software works, and when you're learning Audio or Video software, that's a massive advantage. But there's something else to keep in mind: when you download or stream our tutorials, the only environmental pollutant is the by-product of the energy used to deliver the tutorial to you through the Internet. This is like a raindrop in the sky compared to the energy burned to print and ship a technical book.
Earth Day is an important day for us at NonLinear Educating Inc. It is a day when we can truly showcase the environmental aspects of our educational system ... stop buying books to learn software, and you stop contributing to the massive waste that occurs through the publication of heavy books with a limited shelf life.

Your (and Steve's..as well as others in your company) tutorials are second to none. True Masters of the the art and technology. That's why I continue to subscribe. You guys have worked HARD to provide a polished and professional product.....BUT:
Don't push the GREEN thing on me.
Don't get me wrong...I love our planet just as much as the next guy...But I was NOT aware you even offered your tutorials in evil planet-hateful "print" options. Why the big "green" sell all the sudden?
Do NOT require a "green" reason to continue paying you money. I do it because you offer the best products in your area of expertise.
Frankly, the "GREEN" angle is so overdone by now that it attempts to sell toothpaste, automobiles, and Fast food.
It's my planet too....but you guys are certainly more professional about your product than selling the green thing....Aren't you?

Well, it is our 5th annual Earth Day sale, so it's not like we're just jumping on the bandwagon ...
@ Christian. I understand your concerns... personally, I feel that having a Green Sale allows us to celebrate Green Day at the same time as providing excellent training delivered in as "environmentally friendly" way that we are able.
Win-win situation - great to spread the "Earth Day" message to those that might not be aware of it (especially in other parts of the world).
