Trainer: Marc Doty

Marc Doty

Marc works as the Archive and Educational Specialist at the Bob Moog Foundation, where he employs his knowledge of the history of electronic music, his understanding of synthesis and the physics of sound, and his love for the work and history of Bob Moog in order to further the legacy of that great innovator and musical instrument designer.

At the age of nine his piano teacher abandoned the "repertoire" to encourage Marc to compose his own music. Soon after, he first heard a synthesizer in Steve Miller's "Fly Like an Eagle." Marc's life path was set.

After 7 years of scavenging the synth section of various music stores, Marc acquired his first synthesizer and was instantly employed by the local elementary school to educate its students in synthesis--and he's been teaching ever since!

Marc honed his songwriting and keyboard skills while working for recording artist Prince. He soon released a CD which contained a then-unique combination of techno, industrial, and pop music which garnered interest from such labels as Geffen and Interscope. This success led to Marc acquiring all of the analog synthesizers he could find in his search for the perfect expressive instrument.

Recently, Marc created a video demonstration of the Bob Moog Google Doodle, which was adopted as the official instructional video by Google and totaled over 300,000 views in 24 hours... making it the first viral synthesizer demonstration ever.

We are honored to have Marc as one our trainers!
