"No more pencils, No More Books, no more teachers' dirty looks ..."
We all remember that saying from the past, when the end of June was the best time of the year, because it meant school was out and summer had begun. But at macProVideo.com, we want to take that saying to new heights, by quite literally getting rid of software technical books! Not because it's summer, but because we strongly believe the following:
Software Technical Books are an environmental catastrophe!
In addition to being a great way to see and hear how software works, The Nonlinear Educating™ system is also a protest to the classic educational
paradigm of delivering training through printed books. The printed word is stagnant, and cannot properly demonstrate the complex concepts involved
in using modern computer software. But that's not all ...
For every book that's printed, a tree has to die. But even worse, printed books have a massive carbon footprint. Books are heavy and they must be shipped. By the time a book is sent from the printshop to the warehouse, to the distributor, to the store, and finally to the end consumer ... there has been a massive amount of fuel consumed.
Software Technical books, in particular, quickly become obsolete as new versions of the software are released, and many end up in a landfill. This takes yet more shipping to get it to the dump, where the
book eventually decomposes into the environmentally harmful gas called methane. And if that's not bad enough, books are covered in toxic chemicals and
ink to make them glossy and nice to look at. All of this leaches into groundwater and eventually ends up in our oceans.
If you are concerned about human impact on the environment, stop reading technical books now!
The Nonlinear Educating™ system does away with books entirely. All training is shipped via the internet as digital information. The only environmental contaminant is the byproduct of the power used for data transmission. While this does create a small carbon footprint, it is a drop in the ocean compared the the fuel consumed to ship a single book, or the power used by the printing press that manufactures it.
