I agree with some previous posters. It is a very good tutorial but he utilizes some plugins that are not native to Logic, and some of them make a huge difference in the sound. I enjoyed it a lot.

On the whole, this is a very solid tutorial. It is decently long, and it covers many of the notoriously trickier parts of mixing. Generally it's a good video aimed at beginners. One big let down is the absence of a lead vocal track, which is the most important thing in all most every genre. I was hoping for a video with some more tricks for the more experienced mixer, but maybe there's a volume 2 on the way ? :-) If you're just starting out mixing, this is a good video for you.

I liked the tutorial very much. The trainer is great! I would be however 100 % satisfied if he broadened his explanations to general theories or things to keep in mind when mixing R&B.He seemed to be a bit too focussed on that one song.

Provided a couple tips, nothing major, but used a lot of expensive plug-ins that do not come with Logic. That is why I don't really even consider this a "Logic tutorial". I was a bit disappointed.

I am afraid I didn't get much substantive info out of this and didn't think it was worth the money. In contrast to Steve H's fabulous job on Logic 401, which was very instructive, 403 just walked through the steps without much useful tips, tricks and techniques.

I am a Pro Tools user and all I can say is this video is awesome. Especially for what little it costs. Sitting there watching this guy doing his magic and hearing the changes in the sounds of the tracks as he drops in his processing tools was an amazing learning experience. You do need some type of okay set of monitors to really hear what is going on but I would imagine most people thinking about this video would already have this. I don't write or record R&B in my studio, but I had learned so much from your other courses that I thought I might find some tips in this tutorial also. And I was right! Great job, as usual!

Overall very good, however sometimes the tips were abit drawn. Meaning a lot of the time you were listening to the changes being made to the audio, instead of getting the point across quickly and moving on.

Even thought "Mixing R & B" is not my style of music this Tutorial is filled with valuable information. I'm sure that anyone who downloads this Tutorial will benefit from it. Tutorials are a great way to learn. We can rewind and listem to it as much as we need to until we "Get It". Hi, I really enjoyed the course and have learned a lot so far. David kept it moving and introduced me to new concepts. I plan to try some of the techniques on my next album like widening the mix and adding dimensions. I hope he adds another tutorial in the future that has the lead vocals and maybe the horns !

One word sums up this tutorial -subtle! There are no fireworks or jaw-dropping moments and like MPV says in its overlays - you need top quality monitors/phones to hear the A/B tests. All in all you get a very professional tutorial from a guy who really knows his stuff. Excellent video! Really sent home how very subtle treatment in individual tracks can really make a mix sound so phat! It's all about the concept of where everything sits in the mix and how the sounds work together. It's amazing how subtle changes make such a good finished product. I don't make R&B Music but I picked this up after the brilliant mixing electronica by Olav Basoski. I found tons of useful tips and tricks that have really improved my mix downs. I would really love to see more of these mixing series tutorials by different artists and engineers. How about some deep house or chill out stuff?

This was a great video! I wanted something that would give me more than just a technical understanding of how to use the Logic software. I wanted techniques for putting together polished mixes, and this video delivered. Please put out a similar video that deals with hard rock and metal. Recording and mixing heavily distorted guitars is an art form unto itself, and I'm sure lots of people could use help with it. Thanks!

EXCELLENT!!! I can't imagine what I would've had to pay to sit with David Isaac in his studio and watch one of today's greatest producers/mixers go through an actual song. Great overall tutorial on mixing modern R&B! Lot's of essential and useful information. Best of all, David shows you how to fit all tracks in a dynamic tune like this without creating clutter. The lack of main vocal was kind of disappointing. The use of reverb as an insert on almost every track -- good luck with that if your mac is a couple years or older, but great as an approach to establish placement and create width. I held off purchasing Logic 403: Mixing R&B because I already had the Mixing Electronica tutorial. But boy, am I glad I bought R&B as well. The ticket price was worth just the discussion on bringing DEPTH into the mix. And so simple, too. I immediately jumped into my current project, and even with a quick hack job, I suddenly had DEPTH! Thanks so much to David Issac and the whole MPV gang for that and everything else on the R&B product.

This was a very interesting video by David Isaac. Mixing has to be the most challenging part of music making - at least in my experience. I think this is the worst video of logic tutorial series. I wish I never bought it... First of all the song chosen for the video is really boring. THIS is very important because of this, it is really hard to consantrate what the author says. Also, I do not think that this is a special video for R&B. Loved the tutorial. But was disappointed as there was no lead vocal discussed. Lead vocals are very prominent in R&B and leaving that out seems very incomplete. Hopefully there's an update to the tutorial. Loved everything else.

This tutorial was informative and I did learn from it. I was dissapointed in 2 things: 1) There was no lead vocal mixing. Backup vocal, but no lead vocal. 2) The trainer's technique often involved reaching for an expensive 3rd party plugin that I don't own, without any reference to a Logic substitute plugin or technique. I expected this tutorial to be of the same excellent standard as Core Logic 8 and found it to be lacking. Sorry, but I honestly would not recommend 403: Mixing R&B.

This was my first 400 series and I really liked it. I know some people wanted just Logic plugins to be used, but I really liked to see what plugins the pros use. I was supprised to see how many Logic plugins were used.... I mean he had every plugin on earth installed on his machine and he used quite a lot of Logic plugins. Thumbs up for Logic. Again, very good. As with the other videos i have mentioned alot of information, very useful, really need to watch a few times just to really understand and apply. Only thing I would say is that David uses a lot of 3rd party plug ins, which is great, but would be nice to see logics fx in action for these examples. Thanks anyway for the classes David. macProVideo Tutorials are my best friends. I do not know better introduced Tutorials than of macproVideo. I have it all, because they are to be understood super easily: outstanding explains and demonstrated, helps to me with the work, or if I liked to test times fast something.

Even though I've used Logic since the mid nineties, and I get around in it very well, the program never ceases to amaze me when I discover new methods, tricks, features, etc. such as the ones I gleaned from the great tutorials that MacProVideo provides, especially the Logic 403:Mizing R&B, and 201: Steve H's Logic Master Class #1. These tutorials save me valuable time and effort and cause my end result to be maximized. I look forward to more in you Logic Series!

Excellent mixing tutorial presented by David Isaac. A very insightful approach to mixing this particular song, I only wish it could of dealt with mixing a lead vocal track as well. Nonetheless, valuable confidence building techniques with great results delivered by David in a cool relaxed and comfortable manner that makes you feel like you're there in the studio with him. As a longtime MPV (Logic Pro)customer I was extremely excited to finally see how Logic 8 is used by the pros from start to finish. I felt that Olav's tutorial did a good overall job of explaing the very basics of mixing as one would to someone that hasn't had much experience (if any) at mixing inside the box. He doesn't exactly mumble, but it is tougher to hear him clearly compared to other videos in the series. It's been useful. The critizism I feel to make is that being an advanced tutorial I wouldn't waste time (the way he did) explaining very basic function of logic. I did like and enjoyed Mixing RnB videos they are easy to follow along and good video quality but, I think they are to simple and does not provided enough info for an advanced learner. However they will be a great tool to have for someone that will like to leaner how the pros do it in big studios!!!

R&B is the sound we all strive for. Whether your doing reggae, rock, jazz, country, whatever...we want our instruments to get that R&B sound. This video addresses making real instruments sound like real instruments. Logic is not just for trance-electronica-house-disco garbage. You can make real music with this program. Great music, in fact. This is a very good video about making very good music.

I would rate Logic 403 with 5 stars because David did a great job, with very clear explanations, perfect pace and key topics addressed, but.... there is something BIG missing , which is the LEAD VOICE! We all know that it is the most important thing in the mixing, especially in R&B, and it is not covered at all??? THis does not make any sense to me

Packed with lots of useful tips conveyed in a laid back manner, this program feels very personal and conversational. Kind of like what you might expect if you were lucky enough to have David sitting right beside you while covering this material. I only liked 10% of this video. First of all, if you are a Logic user you'll notice that this guy is not! He is slow as hell with everything. Doesn't even know the basic key commands. I would not have any clients if I worked as slow as him. I am really glad David did this for Mac pro video. It really does give definite insight to getting all styles of music to work musically not just sound great. I do advise students to learn the basics of the plugins as much as possible as well as bring to the table as much as possible as they will gain a great deal from Davids experience. This tutorial was really excellent, and after seeing it once I immediately went and remixed (and definitely improved) some completed tunes on the basis of what I learned. Mr. Isaac knows his stuff, and gives insider info while still being in touch with the home recordist. My area is folk/blues/rock, but nevertheless i thought this was one of the most interesting and informative tutorials on mixing I've seen.

I though this tutorial was good, but it didn't fully show how r&b music is mixed. Why I say this, There is no verse vocals. Mixing a beat can be seen all over the net. There was a chorus but it to was spotty, meaning only the overdubs and harmonies are heard not the main voice of the hook. There were some really good tips in this tutorial. The tutorial was excellent. I enjoyed every min. of it. I loved getting into the mind a skilled and talented producer/engineer. I only wish that he used more of Logic's plugin rather then mostly using third party. But that is small. I still give this video 5 because it was clear, informative, and digestible. This is a great tutorial as it goes from end to end the entire process of mixing as done by a seasoned professional. However I would recommend high quality headphones for some of the EQ tips which are so subtle they are almost imperceptible.

I must admit, i'm not a producer/writer in the the R&B field... so i was a little hesitant in purchasing this tutorial in the first place. After I watched him go through the video, not once but twice, i find his style insightful when it comes to creating depth & width in a track, all of which i will be using in my next house track. I think as a logic tutorial it's very basic and could have used more of Logic itself... he relies on too many 3rd party plugs without giving us the "out of the box"...

I liked this tutorial and the way David teaches, but there was no lead vocal! That's really the main focus of a great R&B track. I would really like to see him work a song containing all "live" tracks, as it seemed these samples & keyboard tracks didn't seem to need any taming, corrections, compression as such. I just downloaded this video and it is really amazing. I have just started the program and already have learned so much. The tip regarding hiding the reference tracks is great! I must say I was rather excited when the email announcing this tutorial hit my mailbox, mostly from the genre being covered. Although I own CD’s by almost all of the artists named in his bio, I was not familiar with David Isaac.
