Learn mixing secrets from legendary House producer Olav Basoski!
How do the pros mix music? The 400-level "Pro-Mixing Series" is designed to show you how ...
Logic 404: Mixing Electronica is produced by legendary House music master Olav Basoski. Olav's sound is one of the most sought after sounds in the electronic scene, and his mixes are considered by many to be the best in the industry.
In this 2-hour tutorial-video, Olav shows you the secrets he uses to make his mixes shine -- every time! Olav will introduce you to important mix concepts including parallel compression, side chaining compressors to give the kick drum presence, setting levels and pan positions, as well as adding the proper reverb to put space into your mix.
Watching these videos is almost as good as sitting in the studio with Olav himself. Along the way, you'll learn some hard-won knowledge including correctly setting the level of your kick drum, when to take a break from mixing, and how to ensure your bass is not too strong for a vinyl cutting press.

I have not even begun swotting this tutorial in earnest. i have just randomly browsed and already learned more than i ever have as regards actual real-life production. 100% logic plugs as well. worth every penny!
Wow Olav Basoski is a great instructor, excellent tutorial.
You truly need this tutorial when you have no experience mixing. A whole new world will open! Learned a lot besides mixing, since you learn tips and trics from the master.
I thought this tutorial was excellent. It didn't leave out details that are oh so important to delivering a good mix out of the box. It will help the creative process and as a result of this, your end product. Worth every penny.
Some of the subjects are little bit to short for my taste but anway whole thing is the best. Regards
These tutorial video's are the best, I already almost got a record deal in Holland with a House label, but I was producing the wrong way and Olav Basoski helpt me get my productions a much higher level. So thanks alot
Great tutorial, really enjoyed it although i taught it could have been a bit more in depth, i felt some lessons were very short and with very little detail. Great for a beginnner.
The tutorial was awesome. It instanly helped me to get to a higher level. A big boost for my projects and I hope I'll be able to send Olav Basoski my demos soon. Thank you Macprovideo and especially Olva. Best regards from Sweden/ Jocke
This tut is worth every cent! Really helped me out especially with workflow and the steps needed to actually get to a good polished product. The lessons learned I can apply to all styles of music, not just electronic. In future I'd like to see a series on producing tips and tricks showing us how to do ie parallel compression, gating tricks with clips, various sidechaining tricks (just to name a few). Please guys, i've bought almost all your tuts on Logic 8 already...I need more! :)
Very good and interesting. Would be nice to see more videos especially from other kinds of electronic producers (soulful house, deep house etc) and maybe also a more in deepth explanation in some cases.
Seriously - If your making dance music and wanna know how the pro's do it this is PRICELESS I cannot say how good this is. MacProVideo should be charging ten times what they do for this but I'm sure glad they dont!!! The old saying - Miss it - Miss out applies here big time.
Very good and informative tutorial. Olav keeps the information coming and manages to keep the tutorial interesting.
A whole new world of mixing possibilities has suddenly opened up to me thanks to Olav's wonderfully useful and inspiring presentation.
This tutorial is as good as it is funny! Olav gives some of his best tips about mixing. Caution: Once you start watching this, you can't stop.
I simply hope this is the first of a long list as It is exatly what I always wanted to study. Great tutorial
Fantastic video, absolutely invaluable for anyone working with electronic music. Olav has a great way of really engaging the viewer and really getting you pumped and wanting to try stuff out for yourself. The fact that he used only Logic's built in synths and plug-ins etc also was a great idea. More video's like this please.
More good stuff! Watched it in one go, my understanding is deepening. I'll definitely buy the mixing R n' B as soon as I can. Thanks Olav
Hello, I watched the Olav Basoski tutorial once and I learned a lot of new tricks 'n tips. I really enjoyed the movies. I'm producing electronic dancemusic for some time, but never learned so much in my logic books. Thanx, Olav Basoski!! Bye the way, Olav is not a stranger for me, I've bought a lot of records on his "WORK" label. Great stuff!! ... and macprovideo... keep up the good work!!
Great Video.... it helped me alot during the final mixing stage of my projects.. And i want to thank Olav for sharing his knowledge..
This is an awesome training video and my mixes have vastly improved since watching it. Olav has a great style and explains things very clearly. I would definitely like to see more of these mixing tutorials. Each artists uses differnet techniques and this is really helpful to us novices. How about some chill out or deep house or even Jazz artists. I immediately bought the David Isaacs one after and that had some really useful stuff in it too.
This was a GREAT video well worth the money! everything is made perfectly clear. I have been composing and mixing for years and this video showed me a few fantastic tips and tricks i hadn't taken advantage of! I HIGHLY recommend this dvd for anyone; advanced or if you're just starting out!
This was a great tutorial. Olav really shows you how to put those finishing touches on your tracks to make them stand out from the rest.
Fantastic tutorial. Olav has a great sense of humour and explained everything in detail. I would love him to make another tutorial 10/10. If you are new to make making club/dance music, you could do a lot worse than this. I wish I had this video when I started out. Thanks Olav and Macprovideo
This selection of tutorials is definately a must for anyone entering the world of electronica mixing. Olav goes at a steady pace and takes you through how he would tackle such a project using logic pro 8 and it's built in sounds an plugins. It doesn't go into depth about using effects, automation etc but does touch on them and gives you a good idea of when to apply them in your project. I recommend these tutorials for any one beginning mixing this genre and would also say it's a great learning tool for anyone starting out with logic pro 8. I'd like to see another advanced tutorial with Olav Basoski as I thought he did this one very well.
I found this tutorial most enlightening. This focused approach provides me with a good overview of how to mix house music and goes into enough detail to help me move further with my production endeavors. Olav also provides some history about where ceetain techniques came from as well as pointing out some common pitfalls. I would love to see a similar tutorial focused on Minimal Techno/House which is more my direction.
Overall, i liked this tutorial. It was cool to get "inside Olav's head" & see how he attacks a dance song. I was a little surprised to see how simple it was to achieve some of the effects I have been curious about. I think some of the gurus on the Logic User Group (LUG) would have some issue with the concept of "mixing to the master bus compressor," but it actually made sense to me. I can't wait to implement what I saw in my next project. Thanks!
Amazing! It gave me a lot of knowledge! I can recommend! More videos like this please :)
This is an excellent tutorial! I found it insightful and interesting! I was particularly excited by the chapters on busses. It was good to find something here that explained how to use them for adding effects to multiple instruments through one bus. I also found the mastering stuff useful as I was not sure how to create masters and add mastering EQ and Compression to all tracks it's great to have professional tutors right in your computer screen, up close and personal. Thanks Mac Pro!
I immensely enjoyed Olav Basoski's tutorial on mixing electronica. I'm into all kinds of music and I loved his take on mixing. I would recommend this to anyone - even newbies to Logic like myself because it gives you a chance to see how a good mixing workflow evolves, along with some very valuable tips (eq, compression & limiting, side chaining etc). But most of all I liked the casual nature of Olav - I hope he makes some more tutorials!
Nice tips and it will help me make better mixes thats for sure. Now Its time to get some music going again...so many lovely tutorials to watch first :)
Absolutely amazing set of tutorials. It's great to see a recognized dance artist at work, to see his planning, methods and execution. Some of the more daunting and complex aspects of logic have now been totally cleared up for me, and my own mixes now sound a hundred times more professional. Thanks Olav!
Absolutely superb video course. Where most free video tutorials that come in my monthly magazines are usually fast-forwarded due to dull or monotone instructions, Olav's bright and up-beat tone kept me interested and informed. There are certainly some great tips and tricks that I'll be using from now on too. Cheers!
After I watched that video, I become more carefull on making music. Techniques are really good and enough.
I've got this and all the Logic Pro tutorials. Couldn't live without them....they are invaluable. Our latest remix of the Erin Hamilton song, CONTROL YOURSELF, went Number One on Billboard's dance chart last week. We recorded and mixed the song in Logic, and couldn't have done it without your tutorials, especially Logic 404. Thanks for the great product. We're having substantial success after using your tutorials.
"Logic 404: Mixing Electronica" is without doubt an excellent product. Olav explain everything clearly and also if you are an expert producer, I think you can learn something new. Very good.
Great vid! Lots of new ways to mix that i may of never thought of on my own! The instructor was pretty clear about the operations he was performing and the vid was easy to follow along. I'm glad I have this useful reference.
great video some very great unorthodox tips i definitely learn o lot about mixing there even though the guys at the mastering studio would argue not put a compressor on you mix before mastering
I checked all over the web for a mixing tutorial for LP 8, and glad that someone posted a message about MacProVideo.COM. The training is paced very well, and right down to the core of all the information I needed to tackle the busses, EQs, effects and more modern tricks like side-chain compressions, something I was not even aware of. In today's popular music world, understanding of the dance mix is very important, and this video taught me some basic novice mistakes as well as some tricky effect stacking, and also the importance of tweaking the EQs so that everything is tight and "heard." I will recommend this to anyone who has LP 8, but also I am going to easily able to apply the technique discussed on the on-board mixer on my Korg M3 or any other systems.
This is a great tutorial. Straight to the point, and very usefull. I would have liked te see a chapter about vocals in electronic music, maybe in part 2? :)
I really enjoyed the tutorial. Oslav had some great techniques on mixing. I really liked his simple approach and clear instructions. If only I had access to this 8 years ago when I had started out. Great work ;)
This is the kind of learning that I love! Olav made it fun! And thats what its all about. Ej* More please!!!
This is my favorite MacProVideo-Tutorial so far. It offers so many helpful hints to make electron dance music productions sound great with Logic. Olav B. has done a great job and he seemed to enjoy making the tutorial as much as I watched it.
I have no background in electronica, but I enjoyed "Mixing R&B" and learned some very useful approaches from that, so I bought this one. I've watched the video twice now and enjoyed it a lot. It's well-paced and Olaf has an excellent rapport as a trainer. In many ways, his message mirrors David Isaac's--use EQ, pan, level, and reverb to aurally separate the voices; hearing that same message in two contexts suggests that this is the foundation of mixing. That in itself is useful information. I have one global suggestion for the videos: it would be very useful to be able to control the respective levels of the trainer's voice and the music. I find it difficult to hear subtle changes in the mix when I'm also listening to someone speak. A balance slider would allow me to go back, mute the voice, and more-carefully listen to the changes in the music.
I have learned quite a bit of watching this tutorial. Especially the part with sends and busses, plus sidechaining been very usefull. How to use the different effects. I like the long videos, instead of the short ones.
No better way to learn than from the pros and producers who are influential because they set the bar high.
These are the Tips of Pro ! I knew the most of them but it was a very good Tutorial to fresh me up.
A great resource for this type of music and it should crossover into other genres as well. I learned some great tips from Olav and will implement all of them. When my projects are done, I'm going to tell people that I learned my mixing techniques from Olav Basoski.
great video. went by all too quickly. thanks - look forward to others like this...
Although Electronica is definately not my thing this tutorial was a really good, plenty of useful stuff that I could apply to my work. And I liked Olavs tone too. He comes over very well. A shame he's not into acoustic stuff!!
This was one of the best tutorials (for Logic users wanting to create electronic house music) I have come across. Obviously being a wicked Tech/Electro house producer himself, Olav knows his stuff. I think people who want to make all kinds of electronic based music will benefit from an incite into how Mr Basoski does things!!!!
I really liked it. Very thorough, yet accessible. Rambled a little in one segment but a little editing could fix that.
Mixing Electronica 404 is clear concise and easy to follow. The gentlemen teaching the class on this DVD is very thorough. He makes sure you understand exactly what to do inside of Logic itself.
Logic 404 Mixing Electronica is a great start in learning how to mix initially electronica but you can apply this to other instrumental music forms. The next one in the series could be 405 Arranging Electronica with the various genre included.
Clap Clap Clap! Great video, great teacher. Olav Basoski for president!! I have to tell you this video will change the way you approach the mix forever! I hope you release other video by Olav Basoski in the future. Cheers
How I managed to get to grips with Logic 8 in such a short time I don't know. I could not of done it without the help of some of the Mac pro video tutorials especially this one. If you are a newb looking for good, clear, pro electronica mixing tips and knowhow, this is for you.
Really handy. Showed me the way of doing things.. in a way I hadn't thought of before. You can tell the teacher's really experienced at what he does. All and all it gave a clearer insight of Logic's posssibilties, and it's fun too. Am I getting paid for this?!
Great tutorial. Learnt so much from this one tutorial. I highly recommend this for beginners and pro's.
Very very good.I enjoyed every single moment. keep it up and if possible bring more mixing electronica video tutorials from other electronic music artists.I am sure that there are more mixing technics around than Olav Basoskis. Thanks Chris.
While watching the "Mixing Electronica" tutorial, I kept thinking Olav Basoski made it look -- and sound -- so easy to do. Of course, he has years of experience behind him. And yet, his tutorial convinced me I too could progress to where it was equally easy for me to mix music in a fast, efficient and professional manner. Thanks for that Olav & macProVideo.com!
Very good video, it helped me alot with my mixing. Learnt alot using compression.
Really love you guy's stuff! It's great! I learned a lot from your tutorials. Logic 404 is really good! My only complaint is the audio quality. I see great mixing technics but it is really hard to hear what is going in the mix. I don't know how you could fix it, but it would help a lot. Thx Rob! PS. I will have a demo on bands website by 5-5-08, thanx in-part to you guys. It would be great to get you feed back! www.infinitimpact.com
Amazing, Tons of information and compliments what i learned in school for recording engineering Makes Mixing seem less stressful
Very interesting tutorial. I learned a lot of things I didn`t know. Its good to have especific electronic music tutorials I missed a final word about having to master the tracks. Eventhough, excellent tutorial. Thanks a lot Olav!
It's always great to see an experienced person approaching the subject of mixing. Makes it so much more hands on and understandable. That is certainly the case with this tutorial. Really useful. Perhaps a little more emphasis on arrangement and setting the track up in first instance would have added to the mix!!
The tutorial Mixing Electronica is very interesting and clear. It is a great help for me in the mixing process but, i would have liked to have a little more details sometimes. I was wondering if i could find some tutorials like ( Mixing RNB or Pop Music? ) Thanks.
Excellent I learned a lot of what i have been doning wrong. my songs have already been dramatically improved because of the traing hear. A must have for anyone. not just electronica but good tips that can be used on any kind of music.
Logic 404: Mixing Electronica delivered as advertised. Very useful and simple to understand. If you are an expert at mixing you won't need this but if you are a novice or even, like me, you have been mixing your own music for a while this will upgrade your skills and introduce you to some new ones.
I was a Rock n' Roller, that was curious about electronica -- I am now hooked -- I purchased this video hoping to learn mixing techniques that I could apply to rock music -- I got more than I bargained for...So cool!!! - Very good instructor --Super!!!
The tutorial was done very well. His expertise and knowledge is great. The one thing I enjoyed was the last part of the tutorial which is were he talked very briefly on the layout of the track which was something that I wish he talked about in depth. Also I thought he was going to talk about how he makes his music from scratch, instead he had his track laid out in advance, which was disappointing to me. It would be great if you could get Sharam from Deep Dish or Axwell to show how they make a track too for another tutorial.
The tutorial was great, informal but in depth, and I watched it 4 or 5 times before I could really put everything into practice. More of that, please!
I think this one can be useful for all types of music, not only electronica. Another gem from macprovideo hosted by Olav Basoski who really knows his way around mixing. You can really take your music to a new level with this one. Excellent job.
This tutorial is excellent. This is not the genre of music I was wanting to mix however, it didnt matter. The techniques used can be applied to all. Calvin
I just recently purchased this tutorial and watched the entire thing twice in one sitting. I can't explain in words how blown away i am. what i learned in that tutorial in 2 hours or so completely washed away the last two years of incorrect information i was learning from friends/fellow producers. he made it seem so easy and obvious with being arrogant. if i had known what i was going to learn, i would have gladly paid $100 for this same tutorial. Excellent!
An excellent tutorial from an industry pro. I have many Olav productions, so eagerly anticipated checking this one out. I was not disappointed. Very, very useful! Forza Olav!
Olav has a distinctive talent to verbally reproduce his mindsequence (pardon my English). He builds it up as if he knows what your next question will be. Simply Outstanding. I worked with it and learned alot about my own taste and what I really want with my music myself. great Job Olav, looking forward to more.
Olav Basoski meets the mixing prosess with the right humbleness and attitude. He delivers great tips that would take most of us years to discover. Thank you!
I own so many macProVideo.com tutorials it's hard to count but this is a real treat. We all have our own idealistic musical mixing concepts, but picking the brain of Olav Basoski is like gathering the ultimate pearls cast before swine. The presentation is less verbose and really chalked full of so many little gems. Just try not to blink when you watch it! I think this has application for all types of mixing and not just for electronica. tcot
Hello, Here some feedback; Nice real life example of mixing a dance track. Very very helpful. There a small thing that (in my opinion) needs work. After Olav makes changes to the mix, he immediately starts talking again or finishes up the subject. It would be very help-full if, after adjusting and tweaking, there is a minute to listen what kind of impact it has on the mix. Several times Olav starts explaining to soon when you actually really like to listen to what happened. May be something for next vid? "Mixing Electronica Tips & Tricks" with Olav Basoski??????? Keep up the good work! Best regards, Guido
Really worth the money. If you not too sure about what you're doing when it comes to mastering and finalizing your mix.. this tutorial is a must! I think that the fact that you're watching/listening to Olav Basoski makes it cooler... because you are sure the guy knows what he's talking about... he's an experienced producer with tons of released music so you can trust him.. He is also very clear in what he explains, you don't really have to rewatch the same thing over and over.. he explains very clearly.. and doesn't just tell what to do, but also tells why to do it... so u understand what u do and why... which i think is very important because it enables you to deduce things on your own afterwards.. it's a plus anyways.. if you want to learn properly and effectively it's a 50$ well spent :)
great instructional package. There're lots of mixing tutorials but few dedicated exclusively to electronica. Olav does a great job explaining his techniques in a very calm manner. HIghly recommended.
This Tutorial was incredibly helpful. Olav broke the process down really well into small chunks you could easily digest. Very clear instructions. Worth the cash money!
Without a doubt the best tutorial I have seen to date, this was exactly what I was looking for! Clear, at a good pace and in depth. I hope to see many more of this type of tutorial in the near future.
Excellent. I loved it. One of the best tutorials in music production I've seen. Looking forward to macpro putting out more video's like this one. Focusing on electronica. Its improved my music 100%. Well done. Vance (melbourne)
I really enjoyed this tutorial. it was very informative, and the instruction was well deliverd and easy to follow. I look forward to purchasing my next tutorial, mastering logic 8 101.
Out of all the videos I have purchased and watched so far, the Logic 404 Mixing tutorials were the most important. It doens't matter how good you are at making music if you can't mix it down correctly. I was able to improve my sound qulaity immediately after watching these tutprials. I highly recommend them.
Absolutely brilliant video for both beginners and advanced Logic Pro 8 users. Olav has a great teaching voice and the advice he gives is very helpful indeed. Would recommend this product to everyone!
It was very educational. Olav talks thru some of the essential things in digital mixing, and doing so in a very nice and pedagogic way. I would have wished for a little more in-depths on certain points, and also for a slightly more complex track to work with. All in all, a very good tutorial. If Olav makes a follow-up and advanced tutorial I would check it out, for sure.
Excellent tutorial, very informative and fun.Olav's tutorial really helps with mixing this syle of music.more please
I downloaded this tutorial to see if I was missing anything in my knowledge in mixing & mastering. I have learnt some nice little tips in using busses and eq and on the whole I think Olav's style of teaching is less like being at school and more like a friend teaching. I hope he gets to make a part 2 as this is the best tutorial i've seen.
Well a mixing session with Mr. OLAV BASOSKI???? Am I dreaming???? Thanks MacProVideo to make this come true.. And again I want to $tre$$ that I love the way your tutorial make me believe I'm sitting next to the trainer, I mean very often I have a doubt on what just explained and he goes throug it again often starting from another way of doing it ..... WOW!!!!! Can you read my mind????? love from rome (sorry 4 my english) francesco
I learned a lot from this tutorial. Good pacing and delivery - in the same league as Eric Persing's videos for Spectrasonics (that's a compliment as they are about the only time I preferred a vendor's video to the manual). More like this, please.
This is an outstanding product. I'm not into Electronica as a style per se but mixing is mixing. I learned a great deal about placement and imaging as well as EQing bass against the kick. When to compress and what to compress. Expansion. I could go on for ever. Bottom line, I was instantly able to incorporate Olav's techniques into music of a very different style, successfully.
Very good explanation from Olav. I know him personally and he is a really good guy.
Great addition to the series. Although I don't compose electroinca, many of the tips will translate into other work. Well done. Keep the real world topics coming.
This is a really good tutorial as Olav works with the same tune from start to finish. You see and hear how he turns it from bad to good. As the tutorial progresses the approach to mixing is set out in steps that are easy to understand and can be used on your own Logic projects. This tutorial really helps if you are looking for a process to follow when mixing and bouncing music. Looking forward to the "advanced - mixing electronica" to see what other tricks this guy has up his sleeve ;)
A great tutorial. Easy to follow with simple explainations on why each step is taken. Olav offers a wonderful insight into mixing the Electronica genre and this video provides the foundations that encourage further experimentation and exploration of the tools within Logic. Highly recommended and I can't wait for MacProVideo to explore other genres in this way. Bring 'em on.
So far this is the most robust, clear concise and valuable video tutorial ever. If you want to learn how to improve your sonic landscape, this is the ticket. I own most of your videos and always get some good info from them. This is the best $35 dollars I ever spent. Look for my artist at the Grammys this year.
Found it truely helpful. Some great tricks n tips and Olav keeps you interested the whole way through. Will be sendng him a demo of the track he inspired to create!! hahahah... j/k
Keep up te good work, thanks mr. Basoski respect!! Thanks MacProVideo!!
Unbelievable! The tutorial is so nicely explained. As a mixing rookie this video is a must have. Thank you.
LOGIC 404 Is what i needed to get me over top. 404 is clear as a bell easy to understand great job. Thank you for loving what you do. GORDON JONES
This was great! I love this type of tutorial, using real-world mix sessions with an instructor who actually produces electronica for a living! I'll definitely be buying more like this, thanks!
Whether youre a seasoned pro or a eager rookie, these videos tutorials will get you into shape in no time. Olav breaks the whole mixing process of electronica into an easy understandable way of working. If you are new to Logic 8, just like me, this is the tool to get you working perfectly, its a must!! as with all the macpro video series.
Great tutorial! If anyone is ever confused if they are doing something right or wrong this tutorial will put you on the right track. I recommend coming out with a in depth sound design tutorial that covers tips and tricks when making kick drums, basses, routing capabilities, etc.. A tutorial that demonstrates the creative capabilities of logic.
Come on people, Don't stare at your mix, feel it! Great quote coming from Electronic Producer Olav Basoski. This tutorial is a "down to earth" representation of how one Producer shows his approach to mixing, and with true Dutch humor. Like dumping Lego blocks out of the box, the First chapter starts with a mess of a mix within logic's audio Instrs arrange page, then he slowly brings it to fruition, till he knocks it out! For these series Macprovideo has stepped up a level in keeping us still interested for future releases. The Electronica video is based on internal audio instrs , so I look forward for the other Genre's like R&B-Hiphop-Latin-Pop-Country that consist of Programming as well as live playing recording like Gtrs. To quote Olav, "yeah Ok Why not"? John Acosta
That was great for me. I am a video editor one shop man. Audio knowledge is more difficult to garner than video. This course gave me some great tips for mixing that I have already apply. It also taught me what to look for. It would be great to have courses on different genre. Thank you for providing this to neophytes like me Brice
The tutorial is really helpfull. It shows more details in a process of mixing. I suggest it for advanced users, too.
First of all, I am NOT into House at all. So it´s kinda unusual for me to get a "Mixing Electronica" tutorial. But I hoped to raise my horizon and get some tips and tricks I may find useful for my work. My hopes were exceeded! Olav Basoski makes an excellent job on this mixing tutorial. You never have the feeling he rushes you through the videos. I really enjoyed his attitude and it was a pleasure listening to him. As a non-native speaker I can say he did a very good job here as you can understand him clearly and without problems. And overall thats exactly what you expect from a great tutorial: You learn something, it´s fun watching and it can bring you to a new level. Keep up the grand work ! (Sorry for my english - as I mentioned, not my mothertongue)
this dvd is great good tips and olav make us see the way he work but i still think that he use just logic vst and plugs in the demo and he probably never use in real thought he will talk about it a bit more even if he do a bit at the end he dont talk about the vst. one thing is sure it s that with this dvd you are far to make sound as good as him.
Very good stuff. You get to sit in on a complete mix session that covers a lot of the ins and outs of Logic as well as mixing. I hope this line of training continues.
I thought that Logic 404: Mixing Electronica was very a good way to teach the use (or Deeper use) of logic. The benefit is twofold for beginners in that they gain insight on the use of logic, and a rare glimpse inside the process of an accomplished mixing engineer. For those who have been in the business for awhile, there is a great deal to learn about logic in this video with a slide towards mixing. I look forward to more videos of this type. Thanks for this great series MacPro!
Very useful tool to see how an experienced producer approaches Logic. I learned a few tips and ideas to use in the mixing process. Very well done. Great job.
A large display of the fundamental techniques used in mixing within Logic.
Really, more like this please! Alt rock,hiphop,etc.... I just really wish Olav would have used all the plug-ins he mentioned at the end during the mix. I also wish for continuous play without all the stops for each section chapter or whatever. You guys are doing a good job and this thing with Olav is a good step in the right direction, folks want to see deep techniques on how the pros do this stuff, so keep up the good work!
I've watched a lot of mixing tutorials on DVD and a lot of those were lame(you know who you are) because of the music presented. This is the best tutorial on electronic music/music.. If you listen to the unprocessed demo then it sounds like a bedroom demo but it's proven on this video that processing it with eq, compression makes that demo cd/radio/club ready.. This DVD is very important to me.. It will take my remixes to the next level. Oh I don't use Logic as I use Ableton Live and it's basically the same idea but just different plug ins.. I will still get excellent results. I kind of don't want to recommend this because I want the information only to myself.. Sad but true.
i really don't care for this style music - i don't own any of it - it's repetitive, mechanical.. et al - i don't dance anyway. but it's the excitement that this genre of music embodies that always gets me boppin' my head and grooving what worked for me is watching olav's mix techniques, his method, basically - what he talks about can be applied to any music and that was what i was really after - and it works. he clearly shows techniques and then shows the result before and after olav is pretty funny through-out also , he's got some one liners that made me grin to be sure, olav is the real deal in my mind - because he says over and over again " you don't need to add too much of this or over do that to get things sounding great" and he practices what he preaches a pretty lame sounding 8 measures at the beggining of the video turns into an exciting sonic bit like the olympics - nobody gets a perfect score - so they keep working harder keep the videos coming
This is an excellent tutorial. Olav doesn't miss a beat as he explains the mixing of a dance track. The techniques he demonstrates could easily be applied to other genres. I am now an avid EQ user. Thank you. Darren
Very interesting and well explained tutorials delivered in a fantastic and easy to listen to Dutch drawl. I would be happy to pay for more guest producer tutorials concentrating on genre specific production and composition techniques in Logic.
Excellent training aid. Informative, enjoyable - Olav grabbed my attention and held it all the way through the 2 hour vid. One suggestion: make Olav's Logic file available for download.
great tutorial very easy to understand like all of them in this website. i hope there will be more like this one.
Excellent! The tutorial contains a wealth of information for the novice mixer like me. Well produced and easy to follow.
I am super happy with this tutorial! I thought I would watch the tutorial one section at a time. But as soon as I started, I was glued from start to finish in one sitting! As a newbie, I learned a lot about basic workflow in mixing. I don't do electronica, but the tips and techniques Olav presented can be used for other music types as well. I like the "build-up" in the mixing process--laying out sounds, EQ, compression, onward to deeper mixing effects! I also learned a lot how to use auxes and busses in actual mixing. (It's like, "Oh, so that's how you use busses and auxes!") Olav's presentation is informative and interesting. I didn't get bored at all! Thank you MPV. You know how to make us happy! Hey, guys, especially newbies like me, if you haven't bought this yet, grab a copy now! Excellent!
Excellent - one of your best tutorials! Please please please do more like this - especially constructing and deconstructing original material from top artists like Olav!
Olav almost makes it seem easy......well, at least to get things rolling. This tutorial provides a real solid basis for those trying to unravel the enigma that is mixing. Some solid tips on what to look out for, while always maintaining the underlying fact that there should be no strict rules. Inspiring and a real confidence boast for me.
Awesome material. Wonderful presentation. Great training series. I am looking forward to more MacPro videos on Logic, especially on the mixing/mastering side of the glass. cheers!
This is more than just a Logic tutorial, and although it's named Mixing Electronica, there is a lot to learn if you're into learn about mixing any genre of music. Excellent in all aspects, from the simplicity of the examples to Olav's way of teaching. I say it's worth the whole price of it.
Excellent tutorial! Olav reveals the whole mixing process and gives lots of tipps to improve the sound. I would also like to see more videos from other producers!
Super section. Fast and simply with few handles for everyone understandably explains: Very, very well.
This is a brilliant idea and MPV has brought it to life wonderfully. This puts all other "mixing" tutorials which often have generic cookie information to shame. One of the best MPV Logic videos. 5 stars.
Very good, only the important stuff, nothing boring... I have already seen it 2 times and I learned a lot .
Excellent, tutorial. Very clear and informative. More tutorials on mixing different genres of music would be very helpful.
Amazing, Amazing, Amazing. I truly loved it! It is such a rare treat to get advice from a genius in the field. I am an aspiring House music producer and this video helped me in so many ways. I would really like to see more videos like this from other producers in electronic music. Thank you.
Hey guys, this tutorial was awesome! Please keep it up! More like this. One of the best you guys have done. I would love to see the same thing in a Rock/pop theme. Keep these tutorials coming. I'm a huge fan! I'll always buy from you guys!! I'm learning so much! love it!!! Troy
Absolutly great!!!!!!Hope he'll do another one going deeper into Logic/Electronica Cheers!
Awesome stuff! i learned more in this tutorial than i have in ages. MPV definately know what us wannabe producers need. I would love a hard house or trance one (from someone like nick sentience or BK - ben keen) And EVEN BETTER would be a tutorial on how to produce such sounds as Olav used...:-) (would definately give my cash away for that!!)
Highly enjoyed these tutorials by Olav. A great natural teacher. Valuable guidelines for mixing in Logic 8. Producer mixing sessions... "just what the doctor ordered!"
This video is excellent. I haven't finished it yet, but so far it's been really fun to watch. As an experienced electronic music producer and instructor, it's exciting to get to peek at somebody elses workflow up close and personal. Olav's delivery is causual and personal, making it fun to sit through. The tips offered up are really valuable. Although they may seem standard to more advanced users, there are still some great nuggets in there for everyone (and I'm only half way through). I'd love to see more of these by different artists, covering different genres of electronic music. A deeper exploration of genre norms, workflow, arranging and practical synthesis tips for electronic music would be excellent topics for videos in the future. Thanks for the great video!
Wow! This is one I'm going to watch again and again. Olav presents this tutorial amazingly well. He guides you through the thought process of mixing with enough technical info and practical advice. I didn't think this type of tutorial would work this well in video format...it DOES! If you compose anything electronic this is the tutorial to watch to make your mix stand out! Thanks MPV
Absolutely brilliant idea, executed with the quality of presentation and depth of content that I have come to expect from macprovideo.com. Highly recommend.
What an amazing tutorial! Olav explains it so well and tells it to you straight. Great Tips and Advice from a Real Professional Producer. You really get to see what is possible just using Logic's plug-ins. A must for anyone who is interested in making their House, Tech-house, Techno or Dance track sound punchy, sparkly and full. I also recommend all the other Logic Tutorials, especially the Tips and Tricks.
i just got this video this morning and have been watching it the whole day! love it! enjoyed the great artistic talent of the instructor, got a much better understanding and respect for the genre which i am not familiar with. lots of thanks!!!
Yes, Yes, Yes... Put your mixing woes behind you as Olav takes you through a fast, up tempo session on mixing electronica in Logic 8. He makes it seem so easy, belieing the years of experience that have obviously gotten him to this level. Plenty to be learnt here. I really enjoyed it.
If you are into electronic music producing and wondered how you get that full club sound. This is the video to get! Olav takes you thru organizing your mix by grouping and using busses. Put effects on them. Use sidechaining to keep your bassdrum pumping etc. Now how about one on producing? :) Rick
