Francesco Schiavon
“Francesco Schiavon is a recognized expert in the topic of digital media deployment for web and optical disc. A dedicated educator, Francesco has spent the last decade teaching in some of Canada's leading multimedia schools.”
Biography
By Martin Sitter
Early in 2000, I became fascinated with interactive video deployment, and specifically, interactive video in QuickTime Player. At the time, there were less than a handful of people teaching this topic ... but Francesco was one of them.
Francesco has been a mentor to me. He knows video compression better than anyone around (I know the people at the top of this game, and IMHO, Francesco rules the roost). In fact, Francesco's compression knowledge has been requested by Apple on many occasions, including as a guest speaker at the now defunct, but always infamous, QuickTime Live conventions.
You can see Francesco's compression skills daily at his cooking how-to portal, rouxbe.com.
As an author, Francesco has contributed to the Streaming Media Bible (Hungry Minds), QuickTime Pro 5 & 6 (Friends of Ed), and the LiveStage Pro Handbook (Morgan Kaufmann).
The instructional exercises in these books come from experience sharpened in front of the classroom. A seasoned lecturer and presenter, Francesco has instructed at the Vancouver Film School, The Art Institute (Vancouver) and at elite private courses for industry professionals.
But most importantly, Francesco produces training for macProVideo.com ...

Just like the prior version, this one is full of info. Each piece of information is broken out to it's own movie. Lots of little movies instead of grinding through a ten minute (2-3 times) movie or stopping and going back over and over it's like educational pop-corn. Because the movies are short the instructors voice doesn't lull you to sleep either. Visually it's not boring with just enough action on the screen. Getting the MPV news email also gets me coupons on a regular basis and I rea...

Good knowledge of subject which comes through in the delivery. If you are looking for an overview and the mechanics of Compresor this does the job. Would be great to have some pre defined option for different delivery media..eg: Web, Web HD, Vimeo. If you have a video with high motion.... But overall if you want to understand Compresor this will arm you with the information to play and deliver content

The tutorial is great - as a long time iMovie user, I am especially pleased with the ability to go directly to a topic to get a quick reminder of how a particular but not often used iMovie function works. Only negative is that NED is unstable, glitchy and downloads are sometimes incomplete, even when finished. Otherwise, you would get a rating of 5 from me.

This is a fine overview of iMovie 09. After viewing it, one would be able to go from importing a movie to exporting a finished product on the web. This Tutorial was great and is probably the most comprehensive one on iMovie 09. This is notwithstanding the Author's pronounced Spanish tinged accent. Very helpfull in learning ins and outs of imovie, but it can be a bit more personal. This training is very well done. I learned a lot of things in there. I was watching the DVD Studio pro training first and I had to find out that iDVD is completely different. I would like to see a DVD studio express version since iDVD is a little to simple for me and DVD studio pro is too expensive with FCP. Apple should include a DVD Studio express version with FCE. As for this training I wish there would be an update for the new iDVD '08 which has some interfaces changes in it (e.g. there i...

Just finished watching this tutorial! Honestly, I had no problem at all with the instructor’s accent, but the audio isn’t the top notch; though the materials are extremely helpful and understandable, making this tutorial almost indispensable. Despites, it’s only one minor glitch; I recommend users to add this tutorial on their library because it covers the most important aspects of the whole editing concept and trust me, I am grateful to have this tutorial at such a great deal because trying ...

Definately a "5". Took as second to 'adjust' to the speakers latin accent, but once i did he was very good at explaining the various functions of iMovie. He knew his stuff. iMovie101 'opened up' the program to me as i was not getting anything from the help menu at all. After veiwing 101 the help menu actually starting makeing sense to me. Cool program..lw

As much as I loved the FCP 101 Tutorial, I must say I have been disappointed with this one. First I must say that the audio really made it tough for me to follow up what he was saying. Once we tried the red circle bonus to the mouse pointer I guess we can't live without it. It really miss here! Last but not least, I bought this tutorial 'cos I needed to know about the output options in FCP, and I don't feel like I got what I was looking for. The guy refers to another tutorial fully dedicated t...

As usual, a very good tutorial. Before watching this tutorial, i didn't think it was possible to do a great DVD with iDVD. From now and thanks to this tutorial, I will experiment somme of my project with iDVD. These tutorials are clear, easy to understand and it shows all the features of iDVD. I recommend it to all the people who want to make a great DVD without being obliged to buy DVD Studio Pro.

Hey Martin This tutorial was not the greatest in terms of its audio. The instructor lacked a flow and verbal cadence that I have come to expect with other Mac Pro instructors. The audio recording device often seemed too close to his mouth, which led to large fluctuations in the volume. The only other tutorial I have had chance to go over was FC101...great instruction and sound. Cheers...Dan

You appear to have an over-use of compression on Francesco's voice. Whilst I can still watch I find this makes for uncomfortable listening. On the other hand I am also watching FCP 101 which is splendid.

I thought the video was great. The gentleman that did the instruction was very easy to understand and he made it pretty simple for me. I liked the way I could work on a project and at the same time listen to instruction. Please let me know of any more tutorials that might be used for Final Cut Pro. I will be getting it soon. Thanks

From the beginning, when I first purchased the Imovie and IDVD tutorial, I had a good feeling about the company. I purchased the download platform. Second, the tutorials relative to the Imovie and IDVD are excellent. The instructors demonsrated knowledge of the subject matters. Please keep me inform for the newest MAC OS tutorial.

i brouwsed a lot before chossing to buy the first tutorial: final cut 6 101 by machael wohl. the red circle aournd the cursor, that made me an instant macprovideo fan. thinking all of the tutoials from macpro would have the red cirlce blindfoldedly bought the final cut pro 105. was dissapointed because it did not have the red circle. but dont want to take away the merit of francesco who was good at narrating even with the accent. but the volume of all clips were not een. few were too loud compar...

great, thanks. When you are not use to the techno langauage in the manuals, its great when you see it been done. Having experts talk to you allows you to learn some handy tips and tricks. The Manuals give the impression that you have to read every page. Though that is the ideal, sometimes time constraints do not permit such a priviledge.

Outputting for the web is a minefield. There are simply hundreds of options. This tutorial has helped me set up my exporting options so that my clients can successfully view the movies on my website. Unless you're an expert like Francesco, you'll be wasting valuable time trying to figure out how to export from FCP - so take my advice and buy this tutorial!!! Incidentally all the information on capturing from your source material is also very useful. To sum up, if you're an FCP user, thi...

I've just finished viewing Mastering iMovie. If, like me, you're a bit daunted by Final Cut Pro/Express, Francesco really shows you how to get the maximum out of this application. I didn't realise that you could do so much with iMovie which, afterall, comes free with all new Macs!! I'll certainly be using the tips I've learnt next time I make an iMovie. Well done Francesco - great tutorial delivered in better English than most English people speak!!!

This tutorial has opened my eyes to imovie. I like the instruction as many tips were given on exporting and without getting too technical, I learned many hidden things that imovie can. do. I hope there is an advanced course on all the iapps, especially pages and keynote, as I use these often. Also will you be doing one on Apeture? I would like to see a place on your web site to take suggestions for upcoming training programs. "I feel like I really know imovie now, thanks to the excel...
