All of a sudden, I’m digging layovers at airports a bit more than I used to. That’s because thanks to a well-timed layover in Las Vegas, I got a chance to meet Steve Horelick for the first time this p... Read More

I'll admit to anyone who asks ... I am a Cirque Du Soleil FANATIC!
I see all the Cirque shows that come to Vancouver, sometimes twice. The mix of live acrobatics, with that patented "Cirque" sound ... both conspire to create an entertainment experience unparalleled in the modern world. I love the Cirque, and I often wonder what it would be like to run away with it ...
J.F. Brissette is one of the lucky few that has lived the dream of running off to join the Cirque. We met originally through macProVideo.com, and slowly started a friendship based around our mutual love for Logic.
Occasionally, J.F. would tell me stories about what it was like to play for the Cirque, and I would dreamily imagine the scenes in the same way a child imagines a fairy-tale world as his dad tells him a bed-time story ...
The next year at NAB, I finally got to watch J.F. play in "O" ... if you haven't seen the show, it is nothing short of awe inspiring! But for me, even more exciting than the show is knowing that a friend is standing just over there, playing the music that sets the mood and makes the cirque come alive!
Here's something that is amazing to think about:
You can actually watch J.F. play in "O" ...
5 nights a week ... in Las Vegas!
So, what path did J.F. take to get to the cirque? Well, let me tell you ...
J.F. started playing the classical guitar at age 14, and was hooked. His love for stringed instruments grew into a passion for bass guitar, and by his late teens J.F. could be found playing in covers bands across his native Montreal, and Quebec.
As the electronic music industry grew, J.F. became fascinated with synthesizers and MIDI. He spent a lot of time transcribing his favorite music to MIDI, and along the way he honed the skills that would later put him in demand as the Musical Director of "O," a show that relies heavily on electronica and technology!
In the early 90s J.F. was deeply involved with the creation of Cirque Du Soleil's "Mystere," and his exemplary work there led him to move to Las Vegas in the fall of 1993. Since then, J.F. has been squarely-rooted in the Cirque, where his work includes arranging, producing, and performing the shows that bring true magic to the Las Vegas strip.
