Michael Wohl
“Back when desktop video editing was just a sparkle in every film editor's eye, Michael was busy creating Final Cut Pro. Learn Final Cut Pro from one of the original designers of this incredible piece of software!”
Biography
By Martin Sitter
Michael Wohl is a pioneer of desktop video, and a man of true vision. This was obvious to me the first time I read his seminal book, Editing Techniques with Final Cut Pro ... a book that sat center stage on my desk for a long time and one I feel no video editor should be without. Michael knows Final Cut Pro like few others!
Indeed, if you want to know the true history of Final Cut Pro, ask Michael Wohl. Michael was one of the original designers of Final Cut Pro, when Macromedia started developing the application in 1995 (long before Apple purchased the program). Instrumental to the development and design of this awesome video editing application, Michael was involved in all aspects of its design until several years after Apple acquired the software, at which point he left to pursue his other passion as a film director.
These days, Michael is better known as a respected, award-winning editor and filmmaker with more than fifteen years of experience telling visual stories. His most recent film, Artistic License, has played at more than 20 film festivals, winning awards at 10 of them, including Best Comedy at Austin Film Festival, Sedona Film Festival, the New York Television Festival and others.
Prior to that, Wohl wrote, produced, directed, and edited WANT, an edgy, stylized, and thought provoking?? film about dot-com mania and sex addiction set during the internet boom of 1999. The film has played at festivals including Cinequest Film Festival, Newport Beach Film Festival, IFP Central Standard Film Festival, Victoria Independent Film Festival and the Canned Film Festival.
An earlier film, Theatereality (1993) won the coveted CINE Eagle award and played in many festivals around the world including Valladolid, Manchester, and Mill Valley Film Festival.
Michael has authored several books on editing and storytelling, including volumes in the Apple Pro Training Series, and has taught filmmaking and editing classes at UCLA, AFI, San Francisco State, and other universities. He has also taught seminars at tradeshows (NAB, DV Expo, Macworld, etc.), and film festivals (SXSW, Cinequest, Victoria, etc).
There is no doubt in my mind that Michael is one of the most talented editors and educators around, and I'm extremely pleased to present his Final Cut Pro tutorials here at macProVideo.com!

I find this Final Cut 7 series far better than others I have tried. The pacing is brisk—but not to fast, concise and rich. If you're looking for a fast paced, well organized quality training resource that won't put you to sleep — this is it. Thanks!

I only bought this video a few days ago and only watched the first half. It is very interesting and easy to follow. The instruction was excellent. I am looking forward to finish this video. Core Final Cut 7 is an excellent training tool. I have watched the video twice in entirety and just started working through the lessons, with a more grounded understanding of FCP 7. and a much improved sense of editing. I enjoy the the way the material is presented and how the lesson's points are made and re-enforced by the visual examples. The pace is fine and the progression of skill sets make sense and help build confidence in learning, and my edit execution.

Although I have only viewed perhaps 10% of the material included in this package, the video clips viewed so far have each exceeded my expectations by a good margin. My use of Final Cut Pro is sporadic and the learning curve tends to fade between one job and the next. These tutorials are the perfect way to both build new skills and polish up rusty ones.

Many Logic Pro users may end up getting FC Express for music video production. The bonus is that we still get to use SoundTrack Pro from Logic. The inclusion of Martin's SoundTrack Pro tutorial where he shows noise reduction of feature as well as script automation is well worth a *free* admission.

Very good introduction to Motion 4! I am a brand new user of Final Cut 7 and did little more than open Motion 4 to make a lower 3rd title prior to watching this MacProVideo training. I have the Motion 4 Peach Pit book, but that takes a lot of time and effort and is collecting dust on my bookshelf because I was intimidated by that level of training. Somehow a manual doesnt work for me. However your training video along with its downloading system and NED viewing system are excellent. I have both enjoyed the first viewing and later delighted in finding solutions to issues I was being slowed down with by dipping into the training. Thank you Michael Wohl and your team. I would recommend the Final Cut 6 101: video editing essentials.

No matter how proficient I get on a number of audio/video softwares, I'm always intimidated by that "first look" at a new one. FC is no exception. This video will take a lot of the intimidation out of getting started. Then you can keep going back to it and learn more and more in depth things. Great job as usual to the MacProVideo staff. I'm a Mac convert from about a year ago and you guys have really helped to make me feel that I made the right decision!

I found the tutorial to be very clear and easy to follow. I liked the coverage, although I would have liked to have seen a bit more content or at least some kind of project oriented training. Overall I'm very satisfied with the tutorial. The author shows a great deal of knowledge and he makes it easier to follow the lessons. I was able to finish the training in a couple of days. I would recommend this training to anyone in need of a better understanding of the features Motion 3 offers.

Another GREAT video tutorial. I guarantee this is SO MUCH EASIER than trying to read a manual. (a manual may help afterwards... but this is the best initial way to learn). I hope to see an advanced lesson set soon that covers the 3D capabilities in Motion. But for a "101" tutorial this is GREAT!

Generally the tutorial was really good. I did learn lots of useful things. However, the big shortcoming I feel is that the tutorial contains no information on how to prepare a sequence in Final Cut to be exported to Color.
