Learn how digital audio works as you build a song from the ground up using Logic.
With its all-in-one interface, enhanced editing functions, and low price, Logic 8 (part of Logic Studio) is bound to make waves in the audio editing community. This tutorial program covers important Level 1 aspects of editing, recording, mixing, and outputting songs using this incredible application.
This tutorial is applicable to both Logic Pro 8 and Logic Express 8. Through the course of this tutorial you will go through the process of building an actual song! You can even download the finished song files and deconstruct, analyze, or remix the final song for yourself.
Chapter 1 begins the exploration of Logic while examining how audio works, starting with the most basic waveform, a sine wave! Through the chapter, you will look closely at how amplitude and frequency combine to make sound. We even jump into Soundtrack Pro for a bit to do some deep analysis of frequency (hey, it's Logic Studio now, so why not?!).??
In Chapter 2, you will explore song construction and phrasing by using Apple Loops to begin laying out your song. This chapter will demonstrate how to work with tempo and pitch while time-stretching audio files and apple loops to keep pace with your song. You'll also learn some interesting techniques for changing the look of your arrange window, including using custom colors for Tracks and Regions, as well as creating your own custom Track icons.
Chapters 3 and 4 get into the nitty-gritty of editing MIDI and Audio regions. While these chapters are designed to provide basic information you'll build upon later in the program, so advanced features (including Step Recording MIDI data and creating Folders to group regions) are covered in these chapters.
Chapter 5 takes a close look at the process of bouncing, creating MP3 files, and using key commands. Along the way, you'll learn how to choose bit depths for compressed files, and attach metadata such as band and track names that will show up when the listener opens your songs in iTunes.
In Chapter 6, you'll look closely at the process of recording in Logic. You'll learn how to set record levels, how to do basic, punch, and replace recordings, and even how to cycle record. I also cover multi-take recording and Logic 8's new "Quick Swipe comping" ... some really great features of Logic! I had a lot of fun recording this section, particularly as I used my two star vocalists for certain parts of the tutorial (it's amazing how much vocals can add to a track!)??
Chapter 7 goes over using screensets, and layering instruments to make big, lush sounds for your mixes. In this section you'll take a good look at the Environment and explore how to manage layers and objects in the Environment, as well as how to cable objects together to route signal through different Environment objects. This "first look" at the Environment that is meant to provide a solid foundation you can use for further exploration into the Environment in tutorials such as the Logic 303: Logic TNT.??
Chapter 8 begins our exploration of Mixing and DSP effects. This chapter includes tips for using Noise Gates and Logic's Strip Silence feature, and also discusses how to effectively use folders and aliases in your arrangements. You'll also be introduced to the Mixer window, and see how Mix groups and multiple output instruments like Ultrabeat can be used to full advantage in your projects. But that's not all ... the final half of this chapter concentrates on one of Logic's best features - automation! You'll learn how to use realtime and static automation, including automation curves, to create evolving ambiences in your music.
Chapter 9 is a bonus section covering mix tips. You'll see how EQs, compressors, and limiters combine to make your finished mix sparkle, every time.

Having spent most of my life running a big band in 1997 I decided to prepare myself for the 21st Century and purchased Logic Studio 7 I loaded it into my Mac glanced through the manuals and thought this is beyond me and it sat there for a year without even opening Logic. I then looked around the internet for tutorials tried one or two but didn't feel happy with them unitl one day I found Macprovideo my first purchase was Core Logic Studio 8 by Martin Sitter what s fantastic tutorial for the first introduction to Logic in depth and great detail by Martin Sitter. I now have logic Studio 9 in full swing thanks to Macprovideo along with other equipment for which I have purchased tutorials at the moment I've purchased 27 and have never been disapointed though my favourite still remains Logic Studio 8 by Martin Sitter. If in doubt don't hesitate just purchase any tutorial they are the finest avaiable Worldwide. tonye
I've been involved with performing, recording, mastering, and processing audio in one form or another since 1968. From drumsticks to DAWs, I've seen and done quite a bit. I have all of the Logic videos. They are truly the key to your musical universes, trust me. These have stunning quality and instruction. The produces and instructors are obviously well above "expert" level, and these videos are simply amazing in their instructional value. I have never seen a better tutorial style or series concerning Logic. No more hardware sequencers for me. Furthermore, via email and telephone, the customer service provided by this company is absolutely the best I've ever received online or offline. Christian Labbe receives my highest accolades and Martin Sitter my undying gratitude. If you're thinking about buying these tutorials, simply press "BUY". You won't be disappointed. Six stars!
The videoes are just fantastic! I´ve tried to figure things for many years in Logic. Yes, it´s a marvelous program but I´ve had big trouble getting in to it. This is the first time I don´t mostley feel frustrated. I´ve seen no. 45 out of 260. Many more to go.
These videos are fantastic. Trying to learn with the manual was quite frustrating. These videos have helped me to move things along at a much faster pace. Really enjoy the format which allows me to go over the specific segments I need at any given time without having to sit through everything else. I've learned tons of new things already. So happy I found these vids. Can't thank you enough!
Best purchase decision I could have made. I was "getting by" pretty good with Logic, having switched over from ProTools, but didn't feel I was using the program to its full potential. There were also a few areas that were a little rough for me. The video cleared up all the uncertain areas, got me MUCH more comfortable with the program, and showed me a LOT of very important functions and techniques - and I'm not talking about things like keyboard shortcuts, either. I'm talking about highly usable tips, tricks, and things to do to make your workflow easier and get a great end product. Highly recommend!
Fantastic way to learn. I was able to retain most of the information easily because each video clip is short and sweet. And there were many, many clips! Great job guys!
I'm really enjoying the videos. Do you have hard copies available or is it expected to burn your own? I'm a little nervous if something were to happen to my computer. Anyway....great stuff. I like the detail and the fact I can work along side the video at the same time. I like the layout and the fact everything is broken out in short clips. Really works well for me. Thanks!
Very helpful Nice to have something you can play back multiple times
Your videos are always top notch. I watch them and continually learn new things and different ways to accomplish similar tasks. I have recently begun to work out at night... My workouts have now been postponed until I finish your tutorials! Martin explains things so well, I feel like I am sitting there next to him. Thanks again, Eric
Coming from ProTools, Logic looks like a jungle with all the knobs and drop-down menu's. And just one look at the 1.000 pages printed manual makes me want to go outside and mow the lawn instead. Not anymore with this tutorial. Up and running in no time, nicely paced and chaptered, with the perfect amount of detail - not to a subatomic level, not too superficial either. Excellent
I have only been able to watch the first few sections, and I love how detailed and simple it starts off. He's so clear with everything, it feels so easy to learn... so far! My one concern is that even though I've only watched about half of the sections of the 1st chapter, the subject matter seems to jump around in a way that seems a bit illogical, but perhaps that's because I don't know how it all ties in yet. I can give a more accurate review later.
Easy to understand...You need this one ! A lot of great stuffs. Logic rocks ! Vincent (Belgium) on logic express 8
I've made it about 80% of the way through Logic 101 and I'm totally blown away. You guys are fantastic. I was so impressed I pretty much bought everything else I wanted to know about a day or two later. I just wish I had discovered your videos earlier...I would have saved a lot of time and frustration.
I really like this tutorial! The enthusiasm of Martin Sitter is really stimulating. Keep on going Martin!
I briefly examined Logic 101, and so far I am impressed. For me it is easy to follow. Way better than the manual. And most important it saves me a lot of time. At age 76 I likely do not have AMPLE time to study 1053 pages of the instruction manual. Thankx guys. Good work.
Logic is my first attempt to enter the world of digital recording, and I knew I was in over my head when I opened the program for the first time... I was completely overwhelmed. I knew from past experience that video tutorials were the learning tool for me. I purchased many how-to books on Photoshop, Lightroom and assorted software programs; however, nothing got me up to speed faster than watching someone actually use the programs. So, I search online and found (and ordered) the MacProVideo on Logic. I couldn't be more pleased with my purchase. The video tutorials are extremely well done and organized. I can't imagine learning Logic without this product... A+ Thanks to everyone at MacProVideo for producing an outstanding product. John Beilfuss
I'm coming from the Windows world and I find that very little of that knowledge (apart from conceptual) is transferable. This is a level 1 training and it certainly covers the material in sufficient detail. My preference is to cover the main elements at a high level and then be able to do deeper dive afterwards - this course takes one through serially to a pretty deep level at each step. I find this harder to absorb and retain than where one can do a high level pass followed by a more in-depth pass at the content. Excellent quality overall and I'll be using it many times until I get further up the curve.
in a world of "how tos" it's refreshing when some come along that actually deliver. i use and will continue to use tutorials from macprovideo. take care!
Another superb class on the basics of Logic Pro. Tremendous amounts of information and highly informative!
About 1/3rd of the way through and I have already learnt many new features, shortcuts, ways of doing tasks differently from the way I knew already etc.etc Excellent. I am sure the next 2/3 will be as informative.
Has to be the best 'how to' package I have come across. Well designed, uncluttered interface with entertaining and very informative sections For once a program that actually shows why understanding sound is important in an intelligent and accessible way. Somebody has done their homework and understands how we learn
Hi Martin and co i have puchased several tutorials from MacProVideo. they are well put together and clearly presented, they are also easy to follow. the last tutorial i purchased was Logic 401 Mastering toolkit by Steve H. Great piece of learning. i still am not clear about the general workflow of mixing: what do you start with? EQ? compression? volume? pan? when you deal with EQ how do you make sure all frequencies are covered equally in a proportionate way? and by how much should all instruments frequencies overlap? when you deal with compression what are you in practical terms aiming for? please don't say you are aiming to compress....for example what level should the gain reduction be hitting? just a few questions....just a few ideas...more tutorials on mixing please...people can write good music and use Logic pro...if the mixing is poor the music will sound flat so mixing is important. it's a bit like marketing...you don't need a briliant idea to sell a product if you have good marketing skills...in fact with good marketing skills you can sell rubbish....but if you have a brilliant idea and no marketing skills you are going nowhere....keep up the good work
To be honest, I got this video because reading the Logic manual seemed so daunting. Now, not only do I know a lot about recording in Logic, but I know where to look in the manual if I need something. This has been a very helpful tutorial for getting me the basic skills I need to record and mix in Logic.
I watched the entire training without using the program. Now I intend to go back and use the tutorials side by side with Logic. Very good job on learning the ins and outs of the program. I didn't know about several of the features, but now I'm looking forward to putting the training to use. Nice job Martin.
I bought a bundle of 12 courses for Logic from MacProVideo.com. Downloaded them immediately and couldn't be happier so far. This course "Logic 101 Core Logic 8" was the first course that I watched and it really brought me up to speed quickly. I love the pace of the course. Martin Sitter is a great teacher. This course is great for a beginner like me or a pro who needs to brush up on some of the basics! I highly recommend this one!!!
Great tutorial. Very detailed information. There are lots of tips and tricks that will save me hours and hours of work. The tutor really understands how to teach things in way so that everybody understands everything. Top rating. Marco
The only thing better than these tutorials is Logic itself - which would be difficult to fully appreciate without them! Martin Sitter keeps these lessons as simple as possible, while at the same time providing us with the tools to take us as deep as we would like to go. I am grateful for Logic, this class, and Martin too. :) Click "Add to Cart"!
Very well done video that covers in very good detail everything you need to get started with Logic 8. I highly recommend this to anyone who is new to Logic 8 or even someone who needs some more in depth knowledge transfer. Well done!
I would recommend this video to anyone who is new to Logic 08 (Pro or Express). I just switched from Cubase 4 to Logic 08, and was totally lost. The tutorials are easy to follow, and extremely detailed. It was definitely worth the money! Great job!
I'm glad I bought this tutorial, very informative. Other than lots of Logic features, it covers introduction material of digital sound, ex. amplitude, frequency. This is very valuable information to some new guy like me. Anyway, worth every penny. And I like the videos are spitted into small parts, it's easy for me to come back and re-watch.
Very informative and filled with practical information. Also very easy to go back to and look up specific topics.
I thought the videos were fantastic. My only complaint is I can tell I will be watching all the videos on Logic 8 and Protools and I will want more.
Excellent overview Have been using Logic for almost a year and still learned several new things from this series
I really recomend this tutorial, very good cant wait to buy the next one
Very good, helped with some theory. Recomend to any beginner like myself
This is just great! I can´t wait until the NEDi is available so I can watch the tutorials by my iPhone.
Good intro to Logic 8! would've taken me days to work through the manual to get the same knowledge which was presented in only a few minutes...always best if one involves more senses, training goes quicker and there's more time to actually make music...BIG thumbs up!
Only got thru Chapter 1 so far. I found it clear, concise, and easy to follow. Looking forward to the rest.
I've never really had the patience to stick with tutorials. They sometimes bore me. I think the main difference with macProVideo, is the way you guys break each lesson down into short clips that are easy to go back to when you want to recall a specific topic. Bite Sized Info... I like that! As far as Logic 101? It took me through the basics, and showed me things I've overlooked in Logic. I enjoyed learning, and hope to learn more!
I had already worked my way though making my first song using both analog (guitar/bass/vocal) and midi instruments and had figured out a lot of the features (comping, track automation etc.) but in doing so I could see how deep Logic is. I found a lot of tips in the video that would have probably taken me a long time to figure out (if ever at all) on my own. I found the video to be well laid out and Martin's narrative to be very straightforward and easy to follow. I believe many of the tips will help speed up my work flow significantly and be more productive with Logic and help my songs sound better. It would be good to have the ability to rewind through the segments even though they are all short for future reference. There is so much in Logic, I think you would be nuts to use it without some instruction. You would be doing your music a disservice. I actually stopped recording until I finished the video so I didn't waste any more time on my next song. I will certainly be purchasing the advanced products as I get a few more tunes completed. Looking forward to learning more...
This is an absolute MUST HAVE for anyone starting with logic. Starting from scratch this tutorial is the best way to learn to master the complexity of Logic. Should be included with any Logic package. I still open it as a reference when working on projects in order to remind how certain things are done. Best buy !
This master class gave me extremely helpful insight information on what powerful software Logic 8 is. I have learned so much. Keep up that great work!
Having been very happy with the Final Cut 6 101 I am equally UNhappy with the Logic 101 product. Logic is a dreadful piece of interface design to begin with with millions of little buttons and menus all over the place in seemingly arbitary positions. Your tutorial does nothing to explain or simplify this interface and goes straight into fast talking jargon instead giving an basic overview first. The tutorial sounds like it was done by a programmer instead of a musician. At the end of the first section, I had to give up in disgust. Very disappointing!
I was one of the many that tried to read the gigantic Logic manual. It took me 5 months before I said there must some other way to learn this app and Macprovideo's Logic 101: Core Logic 8 had been my answer. The tutorial cleared up so many things that took me only a few days to understand than months with the manual. Thanks Martin Sitter and Macprovideo bless you guys.
A good one lots of good information .. laid out well the explanations make sense and help a bunch
Really great tuition. Just like having a friend sitting next to you. It's taught me so much. Top job Martin.
The tutorial I purchased[Logic 101] is great. I also got one for Garage Band awhile ago that was really helpful. I`m probably going to keep buying your tutorial they are worth every penny.Thanks. Ralph DeMarco
I Love your videos. There like having a video manuel to reference when I need an answer to a question. I recommend these videos to anyone who wants to learn. I'm a Pro Tools user who is going to switch to Logic. I'm tired of always having to upgrade and spend more money with Digidesign. Logic offers everything you need to create great sounding music. Remember bottom line is It don't mean a thing if it ain't got no swing.
The Logic 101 course was probably the best training I've ever taken on ANY topic. The flow was excellent and the topics built upon previously presented material. Each topic is very short and I found it hard to pull away and kept telling myself, "Just one more"! I will definitely be buying more in the Logic series! Excellent work guys!!!
I don't often write reviews but felt compelled to due to the quality of instruction with Logic 101. Following the tutorial and working in Logic simultaneously is proving to be the ideal way to absorb the materiial quickly and easily. I am only half way through Logic 101 and already placed an order for 5 additional tutorials.
Martin, I'm almost finished with this video and its the best info Ive seen on logic.I was quite intimidated with the program ( cause im kinda old school) but i feel much more at ease with recording with logic and you kept it simple.
I got a lot out of this video. Martin is a great instructor. He does love the word 'instantiate'! Couple of notes: There were a few created 'objects' that are seen in the video but have no history. The one that comes to mind is in the LAYERS section where Martin mentions his XIO Synth. It's just there... without previous mention. On the topic of layers... It would be nice to see some ideas of how to organize objects on layers in more detail. Also... more of a Logic issue, it's very hard to tell one kind of strip from another... such as control strip vs AUX strip. Not sure if 'colours' can be assigned to strips. I'll check that out today. I think that there was too much time spent on ICONS. I would like to understand more on PRESETS and PLUGINS. I think this would be 101 type stuff. A thought: Maybe as part of a premium package you could produce something like a powerpoint over-review/workbook of the contents with added notes and images. You might think of having this ONLINE and users could contribute to the authoring. Also ... maybe include some of the Project files that are used in the tutorial. Again... an excellent video and with a few edits and additions it would be top notch. Looking forward to more from Martin. Just getting into SteveH's Tips and Tricks today. Regards, Cameron
Hi - being a new member to the mac/logic community , this tutorial was really helpfull - I had to work on a new musical project and didn't have the time to read the software guide - so thanks to the macprovideo team for this tutorial - one suggestion : you should translate those lessons in spanish , french , ect ... if you want I could translate in french - a LOT of people who don't speak english fluently would be interested over here - Best regards from Paris - kamel
If you are starting out with Logic 8 and want to quickly learn how to get producing your tracks, then this is the way to go! Martin does a very good job showing you how logic 8 works along with other stuff. I highly recommend it!
I've only gotten through half of the training program, but so far, so good. It takes you through the basics methodically and is easy to follow, but I wished at some points that the trainor did not assume that the trainee already knows what is being talked about (for instance, I had trouble with what he meant about velocity; he didn't explain what it was exactly and just went on about velocity). For the most part, however, he takes his time to explain, which is really good for beginners to recorded music. If you do not mind minor issues like this, then go ahead and purchase the program -- it is definitely worth it.
as a new owner of LOGIC STUDIO i kinda knew what sounds i wanted to get outta my head and the logic 101 core logic 8 really helped me with a great foundation. One big reason is that it did keep it simple and didnt go into a bunch of stuff all at once and what i LOVED about it was each video was only a couple minutes long , so it was like learning if you had add
Very nicely done video, ideal for anyone entering into Logic for the first time, and people like myself who came from Logic 7. Martin is extremely enthusiastic which proves infectious and there were many "AHA-" moments in there. Great value and soooo much better than a telephone directory sized book.
Includes lots of useful information. Not the ideal introduction to Logic though. I´d prefer an approach that would enable me to start an editing project straight away. Would also prefer a more consistent path rather than jumping from one function to another.
This is the best introduction to LOGIC ever ! A MUST for beginners ... experienced users will also learn precious tips (and get rid of bad habits). Finally! Learning LOGIC becomes fun....and fast.
I really enjoyed the video, although it was really weighted toward a type of music I'm not interested in. (This seems to be the industry standard though.) I keep waiting to find a video that explores recording and mixing music made with real instruments in a meaningful way.
I just finished this tutorial in a matter of days. I also took many notes along the way (mainly tips that would otherwise be lost if reading a text). I want to thank the author of this for balancing theory, application, and interesting dialogue to keep the tutorial entertaining and educational. I highly recommend this to any new Logic user as well as someone needing a refresher. Thank you Martin! P.S. What's wrong with Country? HAHA!
This is an excellent tutorial on Logic for both beginner and intermediate level users. I have seen several other tutorials and although I had already learned some of the concepts demonstrated in this tutorial from these other tutorials, these concepts were explained in greater depth and clarity in this tutorial. I highly recommend it. I will be purchasing the higher training level Logic tutorials that macProvideo.com has to offer based on my positive experience with this tutorial.
Excellent!!!!!! I just upgraded to L8 and having this training made the transition very easy. I thought the presenter was very easy to understand. Keep up the great work!
I upgraded (on an extreme level) from FL Studio to Logic Pro 8. I simply like creating music for my own pleasure and amusement, particularly classical. Logic Pro 8 seemed huge at first, after watching the tutorials, I realized that was still true, but also that it was also very easy to work with. And I put together a piece in an hour that sounded better than any previous tracks I made on I made on FL studio that would take me up to weeks. As far as what I got from the tutorials, I learnt more than I thought I knew about sound, and how to go about achieving what sound I wanted. It lacked any tuition on notation but it is apparently available in another tutorial. This tutorial is a generic but thorough introduction to using Logic. It's also worth noting I haven't even been through 2 of the 9 chapters in this tutorial, and I'm already capable of producing what I want. The tutorials are put in a helpful hierarchy too so if I ever have no idea about something I can easily find more than enough info about that aspect whenever I need it. The Good: All the information is there. Nothing is vaguely explained. All the lessons are ordered and arranged effectively. The Bad: It's not free. By being thorough, it becomes quite slow paced. If you want to find out how to use one of the most capable and convenient audio programs available, plus some valuable rules about sound production and music, you'll find it in this tutorial.
I think this is a very good way to learn about hidden and special features within logic and it would be great if you could translate this into different languages. Another thing is the handling. I would very much apprtiate if i could watch the videos on TV- and/or iPhone.
Martin presents the information in a concise and logical fashion (no pun intended). But what really sets his tutorials apart are certain points of information which he calls attention to. I have found that taking note of these, which might easily be overlooked if just mentioned in passing, has helped me better understand the paradigm within which the creators of Logic architected the program. This has helped me make leaps of understanding that would have taken much more time had Martin not illustrated their utilty... Thanks, and keep up the good work!
The tutorials are fantastic and speed up the learning curve. Logic is an incredibly powerful, deep program and Martin does a great job explaining and teaching. The extra engineering tips such as how to use a compressor are great for brushing up forgotten knowledge for those of us that have been out of the studio for too long!
As a beginner, the tutorial fit the purpose of what I needed it for. Occasionally some sections could have been slower and I feel that if I hadn't have had the knowledge of how to use Garageband I may have struggled with some of the more technical sections. However, the person who took the tutorial was very well spoken and entertaining and kept me interested 99.9 percent of the time. If I was to suggest something to better the program I would say to put in pause sections where the person watching the tutorial can pause and fiddle with their Logic to better the understanding of what has been spoken about and then return back to the tutorial and have a short recap over what had been covered in the last section or 50 videos.
I am extremely pleased with Logic 101. I switched from PC to Mac a while back and bought Logic Studio, but didn't really have the time to sit down with it and learn the basics. I have extensive experience from other sequencers, but Logic is vastly more complex than what I am used to. Martin Sitter's style is relaxed, cheerful and friendly. It was a pleasure to sit through all the lessons. I chose to view the entire course first, and then go back to specific videos when I encountered issues in Logic as I worked. I warmly recommend Logic 101. I am already working my way through the next level of tutorials, and this course was a great starter for my Logic experience.
Awesome, awesome, awesome!!! I thought I knew the basic Logic interface pretty well, but Martin definitely schooled me with the video.
Absolutely brilliant video training. Thoroughly impressed with content delivery, presentation and structure. Congratulations to all at MacProVideo.com
I'm fairly technically-savvy, so when I first found out about these tutorials in my music technology class, I didn't think I needed them. I've been using Logic 8 for about a month and half, and was getting along OK in Logic. Then, I ran into problems figuring out how to beat-map, and quantize audio. Yes, Logic comes with a gigantic manual and online help, but honestly, I didn't find it terribly helpful because it just gives definitions of what the concepts are and does not really show you how to apply these concepts to a song project like MacProVideo tutorials do. My instructor showed me a couple clips from Steve H's Master Class and I found it really useful. I was hooked. I decided to purchase Logic 101 after viewing some of the demo tutorials. I didn't think I would really learn a lot until mid-way through the tutorials, but you know what? I learned a lot of useful things such as short-cuts, new workflows (i.e. different ways of approaching a problem), and basics even from the first few chapters. I just finished watching the entire tutorial and I am very impressed. I can tell that Martin is excited about the product and about sharing his knowledge. I really like the video format of this training and the fact that you can go back and watch any lesson over and over again because the detail you need as an overview (i.e. to get an understanding of what Logic is capable of) will be different than what you will need when you are actually in your own project and wanting to apply the learnings specifically to your project. I would love to see a tutorial regarding general mixing concepts (not just R&B mixing concepts, for instance) in the Logic context -- basically an expanded version of the "Bonus" section of this video. I've purchased Steve H's Master Class tutorials too, and now I'm moving on to viewing the remainder of them (not just the beat-mapping and quantizing sections) now. Can't wait! Thanks guys!
Great Stuff! If You need to know something You dont...You will definetelly find it in macProVideo!
This was the first Logic tutorial I viewed, and as I had no previous experience of working with audio software and hardware it was a real eye-opener for me. It gave me a good overview of Logic's possibilities, and every time I've dipped into it again for more detail (and I'm still doing that to refresh) I've been rewarded. I can absolutely recommend this tutorial.
Excellent as usual! I have only recently started to use Logic Pro 8 and this video has been extremely useful. I highly recommend it and am going to start Logic 201 shortly. It is a super lexicon to have when working with Logic. I'm trying something out and it doesn't seem to work right, so I'm off to the tutorial and usually I find a chapter that explains it all to me in a simple way for a simple mind! Keep up the great work Martin
I'm not very far in to the course, but it all seems to be very well designed and simple to follow through. Would love you guys to do one on Mainstage!
i will be buying more . its quick an easy thank you guy i am happy with this product
The tutorial has 2 great pros: a) it helps don't wasting time in reading the big Logic user manual; b) it shows in a very friendly and easy way not only how to do anything in Logic but also what's behind (i.e. the reason why you need to use any feature of the program). It would be interesting to watch the tutorial even without having bought Logic! For your information, I decided finally to buy Logic after wachting those free video tutorials n your web site.
i bought "the book" for logic pro and read it hard i bought and streamed "this excellent vid" by martin and learned even more i passed the level 1 certification test today easily 'nuff said
Hi,I found the videos to be very informative and educational. They are presented in a professional manner. I have learnt a great deal in the first 10 minutes in the easy-to-understand and 'plain english' description. Thank you Johnmac
I am not a big fan of reading manuals. That's why I was thrilled about the Core Logic 8 video workshop. Especially, for such a complex software it is great to have a step by step tutorial at hand and see and hear how things work in Logic 8. The author of this workshop did an outstanding job. His explanations are simple to understand, yet complex enough not to be boring. He has got a clear voice and provides lots and lots of useful tips. The workshop is devided in many short chapters with a logical structure. This is great to get back to something you want to watch again for an in depth understanding. In a nutshell, the Core Logic 8 workshop is really, really worth buying for anyone interested in using Logic 8 for the first time.
Once again MacProVideo has done an outstanding job. This is one of the two best videos I have gotten for learning Logic 8, and if you are a beginner with Logic 8, you should definitely get this video. One of the best parts is that it first focuses on how sound waves work and are read by digital recording software. However, the video does a superb job of explaining the key parts of Logic. Additionally, the NED software is so user-friendly and so clean in presenting the videos. And, by the way, NED keeps at your fingertips ALL of the MacPro videos you have purchased. The whole package from MacPro is great. Tanks. -- alex
Excellent program. As a new user - I didn't have any idea where to start. I'm pretty sure it will take at least five more viewings and practice to begin to gain a little fluidity with the program. But without this video course, well, Logic's a mighty deep program that would have remained a mystery.
I found this tutorial very good. I think that the level is well pitched towards the beginner. I like the style of the presentation. I will be investing in the next level up once I have had a change to digest content of this tutorial.
For the price, this stuff is superb. I have gained so much from these videos. I thought about saying they are a bit slow and padded out a tiny bit, but pretend I didn't because they are not at all... I'm going through all my videos for a third time now so it all sinks in. Keep it up guys and I'll keep buying.
Excellent tutorial! I'll be purchasing more in the series in the near future.
Well I've finally finished (long story - dead processor, whooping cough, laziness etc.) and have to say it's great. It's so much easier to follow than reading a (nearly 1,000 page) manual. I will try to read the manual but not right now. Martin does a great job. Mind you, I cheated by getting a 2nd monitor so I could have the tutorial running on one screen while I ran Logic in the other. I've got a bunch of the other tutorials and can't wait to get to them (might make some music first though). Thanks MPV
This is a really good tutorial. This is my first NED tutorial and I really like them. I like that they reside on my hard drive instead of having to access the web. That way you can learn while you're traveling - like a book. Anyway great job!
I found Logic 101 tutorial very useful and handy. It gave full overview of basic Logic features. MUST HAVE!
This has been the best tutorial I've ever seen. Martin Sitter is a very talented teacher.. The method of building a song form a to z is the best way to get to know a program and keep the student pretty interested. U must keep this method...
This is better than the Ableton courses you have online because it shows you how to make a tune from a-z rather than point out all the features of the program alone.
I purchased Logic 8 a few months ago after using Garage Band for several months and also Cubase LE for just recording needs. I wanted to take my knowledge of Logic 8 to the next level and the Logic 101 video exceeded my expectations. I really liked the layout of the material and found everything really easy to follow. Also was really liked seeing a song getting built throughout course and use of the various functionality in the lessons added to the song. Great job Martin!
Really good tutorial for all the people starting working with Logic. Perhaps the author could have spent a bit more time on the song arrangement aspects in Logic. I hope a futur macprovideo tutorial will cover this subject in more details. Best Regards. Eric
really 5 stars, one of the best tutorial ever seen. Obviously italian version for me would be better. Anyway it's appreciated that tutorial is slowly spoken for better understanding. regards
I have not seen the whole video. I would like to congratulate Martin Sitter on the wonderful work. The tutorial video are clear, objective and easy to understand. I would just like to see more about how the DSP inside Logic works. All the best
I have almost all your logic tutorials and they are great. My background is not using computers to record and such so when I first got into it it was a challenge but this particular one logic core 8 has been great. One comment how come you never used external midi in the video? You also didn't talk about bouncing external midi just something to keep in mind,Thank You for a great product.TT
Logic is not easy if you've not used a recording application before. I was pretty clueless when I first sat down with Logic Express, even with over 35 years of experience as a musician -- 23 of them as a gigging and recording professional --, two engineering degrees with 20 years of software development experience, and prior experience (some time ago) with MIDI recording on my old Mac. For all the testimonials I read regarding how "easy" it is to get started with Logic Express, I found the sheer number of concepts and new language to learn very daunting. My goal has been to get started as quickly as possible and figure out the nitty gritty details later, but the huge PDF manuals that come with Logic became a pretty effective deterrent to that approach. The next plan was to find a consultant who could come to my home and spend a couple of hours to get my system up an running and to help me develop a work flow on it. I found someone, but have yet to actually hook it up with him. Enter Logic 101, my resident consultant. It provides exactly the tutorial I needed. The step-by-step approach is extremely effective, and the bite-sized sections are easy to find and review again later. The narrator is very good, and really knows his way around Logic. If you miss something the first time, you can just rewind the video and check it out again. Tech support was extremely responsive when I had questions about NED 2. I'm looking forward to checking out the further programs available from macprovideo after I get going. Keep up the good work!
So far, I've been enjoying the video. My only criticism is that some of it moves kind of fast. And what I would describe as the "asides" ("while we're at it, let me show you how to open the ________ from the keyboard shortcut") can be a bit distracting. I'm pretty much a total novice with this stuff and decided to plunge in and try to learn Logic rather than a simpler program like Garage Band. So I could probably be considered a remedial student as far as this stuff goes.
I have learnt more in two days with the tutorials than a month of books and manuals. I have Logic running with the tutorial and skip between the two. I am gradually finding a intuitive method of working and the tutorial's are informative and fun, yes actually fun.
Alright, I can't keep my thoughts closed up any more. This tutorial is magnificent - stupendous - exciting - uncontrolable - creativity - bouncing - from - here - to - the - next - galaxies. I needed to learn Logic and this tutorial put me on the path of enlightenment. Everything to satisfy my learning desire was placed on this tutorial. This is the best tutorial that i have ever come across, period.
I have to say I'm absolutely over the moon with this tutorial. I'd heard good things but... WOW. Not only is the information accurate, really easy to follow, very very useful, etc, but the videos are also incredibly engaging. Martin has a way of making me WANT to watch the videos again and again, they're really engrossing! Highly, highly, highly recommended stuff and an absolute steal at the price.
This is great stuff. I'd purchased Logic Pro 8 months ago, and was hoping that it would be easy to use. I hadn't had much spare time to focus on trying to learn how to use it (and the 1,000-page manual was incredibly daunting), but I did actually work out how to lay down a rhythm guitar track, with much trial and error. I searched locally for any courses that might be available to get to know the software better, but I currently live in a small city in the south of Sweden, and there's nothing around. Even if there was, there's a good chance that it would be in Swedish (and mine's not brilliant). This tutorial was a godsend. I'm watching the whole thing once, then I'm going to go through it once more, this time with a pen and paper to write down the little important shortcuts and tips that are highlighted throughout - very handy stuff. I suppose my only "criticism" would be that some (very few) bits are covered a little bit too quickly, so it can be a tad difficult to follow them; you're not always sure as to what Martin "just did", and you could get distracted momentarily. On the other hand, I think that this should only encourage you to take the initiative to experiment a bit, to try to recreate the bits you think you've missed. At first, I thought that the little plug about AudioBase.com was a bit cheeky, but - dammit - the loop he selected from there as an example was just too cool. I may have to buy some stuff from there now anyway. Shame on you, Martin. ;o) So, all in all, I think a 4 out of 5 is definitely fair. Its only imperfection is the speed at which a couple of things are covered. But hey, just scroll through them another one or two times, open up Logic Pro, and give it a go yourself! Well done.
This is a very comprehensive tutorial. anyone just starting with Logic will find it extremely helpful. I learned a great deal from watching this video. Being vision impaired and seeing everything up close instead of sitting in a large group in a classroom means it's easier to grasp the concepts being taught. I can learn at my own pace and sop to review things whenever i want. Great stuff!
Dear Martin, The tutorials are very educational and informative. I teach a Logic Pro 8 course at Columbia College Chicago. My students and myself enjoy your sense of humor you display in your tutorials. It really confirms that you had fun producing the tutorials. I use the tutorials as part of my instructional procedure. The tutorials work better for my class versus the book. I explained to my class that you wrote the Logic Pro 7 training series for Apple. I will be purchasing more tutorials in the near future. Keep up the extraordinary work. MacProVideo.com rocks! Best, Samuel Stith
I have only completed up to lesson 40 & of course, will have to review as I go along. The teacher is fine except 1)he sometimes uses terms too quickly or terms that he expects the student to know without explanation(amplitude for one.)I have to stop the lesson and replay until Ican figure out the word he used.(He has a slight accent)or go to a glossary or dictionary to get the meaning of the new term. I would also not take so much time in the beginning on sound theory.I am going to use a microphone a lot recording with software instrument backgrounds and This important "studio" function is only addressed lightly and late on the CD (perhaps it is covered thoroughly on the second disc of lessons)One last thing. He performs certain changes really rapidly and I do not catch what he did. I have to go to my Apple book on Logic to see what he selected or clicked. Even with these reservations I am still going to buy the second set of lessons. Question-Is there an EMail where we can ask a question? Claude Reeves
Great tutorial. Takes you through all you need to know to get you up and running with Logic Pro. Very thorough and systematic. Almost like having your own personal teacher on call 24/7. Note on N.E.D. 2.0: This program is still kinda buggy, most noteably it displays the "Black Hole Syndrome", where the video just disappears, and you're left with audio only. Downgrading to N.E.D. 1 solved the problem.
I wish I had discovered macprovideo.com a year ago! This video is light years away from a dry, techie training manual. The pace is just right, the explanations super clear and the hints and tips invaluable. I plan to watch all the Logic videos and am very excited about how they will open up doors to me - fabulous, thank you!
Having now spent some time with Logic, I have found the tutorials to be invaluable. The clear instructions take you step by step through all the basics of recording, and go on to more advanced editing etc. A "must have" for any first time Logic owner.
everyone likes different things for different reasons... some of this I found useful, but some too slow, which I found to be a bit frustrating at times... in this type of medium, please remember that I DO have access to a re-wind button, so feel free to STUFF each segment full of useful info...! I can always go back if I missed something... I need to know where stuff is in the program, not a basics tutorial on DAWS in general.. for what I mean, please look again at the Ableton Live vids.. I've only checked out the freebies, but was very pleased with the pacing and amount of actual data and technique in each segment... no filler!! I'm giving this a 3, but would rather say 3 1//2...
This tutorial was awesome and I mean that. Although I am/was a Protools/Dig Performer guy, there is a ton of stuff in Logic and the tutorial walks you thru step by step. It's great and i am looking forward to picking up a few more once I get a grip on the basics. Good job man Jeff
I found Logic 101 to be an excellent introduction to Logic Pro. Martin Sitter is great. Very entertaining and does a wonderful job of explaining a complex program. I look forward to more tutorials by Martin Sitter.
This was not the first one I purchased from MacProVideo. I actually bought bunch more advanced topics first thinking that I could figure out the rest of LP8, then I've realized that there are some basic stuff that I didn't know about. I now feel I got down how to make the LP8 production workflow as how it was meant to be. You might think you know LP8, but you could have been wasting a lot of time re-inventing your own ill-defined workflow. We musicians all know that we need to get the basics down to play and same here. If you are starting out, definitely start here. You will become a seasoned pro-driver in no time!
Really good, and very helpful tutorial. I will be referencing this for ages. Looking forward to getting stuck into 201 and 303 now. And loved Martin's Dune reference; 'plans within plans'! Heheh!
This video is excellent, I would recommend it to any who is new to logic it runs through every facility there is, I would say this is a short cut to learning Logic, The way it is presented is very good and very easy to understand,Once i have finished with Logic pro 8 101 i will be investing in another mac pro video,I would say you could learn everything from this tutorials without leaving your home.
This is a must buy. Martin's style is potent yet very well-paced.Those that are paying attention will detect a humour and love of music akin to Steve H's too.Are they cousins ? haha.Great stuff.
THE TUTORIAL IS GREAT INFORMATIVE ESPECIAL ABOUT THE AMPLITUDE SECTION AND FREQUENCIES
Excellent video for first-time users like myself. Learning the basics is key and this video is on point. (Big up to Martin!) I highly recommend this tutorial to any one starting out making music on Logic Pro!
Great video. As soon as I am able to apply what I've learned from this one, I'll be getting some of the other Logic videos so I can dive deeper into the program.
The interfase is clear and the so the explanations. this has all the contents of a good printed manual but with the advantages of not having to read 500 pages (in 3 weeks you can learn what would take 4 months). just two things I dont like so much: 1.doing the dowload is a bit complicated. 2. the song used for the tutorial is really a demo song, I mean, I would have prefered something more real and rock oriented.
I got a lot of value out of this and will be using it as a reference in the future
I would like to apologise for the delay in providing you with any kind of feedback. I have a number of your tutorials based mainly round Logic and must say how impressed I am with the quality of the information and presentation. Of course, there will always be subjects which we feel could be covered in more depth, but that is just a personal thing and your overall coverage is outstanding. I must say that Steve Horelick is very impressive with his natural approach and attention to detail even when he is over the top. But all in all you have a great team who take imparting knowledge to new levels! And the introduction of Ned 2 with its ease of access is another high point. So to sum up, it’s a wonderful system that has helped me learn a great deal about a complicated technology...thanks!!!
It is exactly what I have been looking for, and it goes even further: thanks for the sound explanations (wave forms, frequencies, etc.) Even for a non native speaker (I'm French) it's a pleasure to follow this training course. If I had to find something to improve, I would suggest to get rid of the title page at every beginning of a chapter, it's making the vidéo longer when you play it continuously. Thanks !
I'm devouring MacProVideo tutorials at a rate of knots so look out you producers out there! The latest one I'm working my way through is the excelent Logic Pro 8 101 by Martin Sitter. Firstly, I have to admit, I just like the way these tutorials work. I tried working my way through the Logic manuals, believe me I tried! The problem for me was it felt like homework and I felt alone. I like working with people and exploring my creativity alongside someone else's creativity. Making music just is that way, so the idea of spending hours and hours alone with text books didn't really appeal to me. Anyway, enough about schoolbooks! This tutorial neatly takes you through some of Logic's heartland. It shows you just how you might approach creating a new song from start to finish. Along the way it touches on the nature of sound itself, amplitude and sound reproduction, waveforms, song construction, midi, regions (and folders, something I hadn't even heard of), bouncing, recording, instrument layering, automation and finally a section on tips and tricks to help sparkle up your mix! I am enjoying the tutorial and it has helped me find out more about Logic. I found it useful to see an actual song being constructed, developed and then mixed, it made it real. Logic is opening up to me and most of all I'm enjoying it! Stefan of - Subliminal Attraction
I'm a very visual/hands on person. I absorb information much better in an interactive platform. So far Mac Pro Video has been exactly what the doctor ordered in helping me understand much more about the program than even the users manual. Things I didn't know were accessable to me to get a better understanding and use of the editing process in the program. I've had the software for a short time and have studied about 25 or so of the lessons and I'm becoming much more confident using the program with the knowledge I've acquired with Mac Pro Video. If the info ahead of me in Logic Pro 8 101 continues to simplify using Logic Pro for me then I will certainly purchase more of Mac Pro Video tutorials and recommend them to others. So for now it's two thumbs up!
I've been a musician for around 15 years and have done a lot of recording. I bought Logic because I was very impressed with recordings I had been hearing that were done fully in Logic so I decided not to waste any more money on studio time and record myself. This is a fantastic tutorial. It got me past the basics and into recording almost immediately. It would have taken me slow months to figure out things I learned in half an hour. Great price! Well worth it. I docked it a star simply because I found some things repetitive and I found it a little slow at other times but don't let this put you off, thats just my opinion and it really is worth the purchase.
Core Logic 8 was very helpful. I was able to hit the ground running after upgrading from Logic 7. I would recommend this tutorial to anyone new to Logic 8.
This is the best tuturial ever Ive learned so much in two days. I took an audio engineering class at my local community college and your tuturial has enlighten me more about sound and daw system. I love you guys. I will be purchasing a new bundle in two days dealing with the environents, sound, rnb mixing and plugins, consider me a lifetime costomer.
These are amazing well thought out tutorials. Very easy to understand. Its hard to pull myself away from them because they are just as absorbing to study as watching a really good movie or reading a great book!
Almost finishing this one. Quality wise it is a great product, my logic pro learning curve changed from hard (reading the manuals) to really easy. Technically wise it is a great product too but i'll say a 4.5 out of 5 because the screen on the N.E.D is a little to small. Also, when a music track is playing and the instructor talks at the same time it is kinda strange. I truly believe this is the future for educational purposes, videos are replacing books. I recommend this product to anyone who wants to learn logic fast.
Unbelievable! Very impressed. Can't wait to start on the other videos! I very rarely write reviews but felt I had to for this.
The training is detailed and concise. I have not finished the training at this point because I am a beginner. I take each section and then put to practice before continuing. The structure of the program allows one to go at his or her own pace. Great Product!!!
great tutorial, very simple, clear but lessons a little bit short.
Logic Pro 8 101 is bursting at the seams with all kinds of foundational information that I didn't expect when I bought it. It's not simply an overview of Logic—it covers tons of other things that everyone who records sound needs to know. It really filled a lot of the holes I had in my understanding of basic sound and song construction, plus the video is split up into well titled sections that make going back and finding anything in the tutorial a total breeze.
It is definately good! It's brought me a lot farther along than I woud have been without it! However, putting a section about the notation part of Logic would make it even better!
Love it! Love them! I'll certainly be picking up others once I've gone through this one. I would like to see the download in standard Quicktime format. Other than that, excellent job.
very easy way to learn! i found going back on the videos and watching them over and over a great way to learn. A week on from downloading the 101 and im now ready to download more!
Wow! This course is really that good. The only problem I have with it is, that I will now hi expectations of any other training material I use in the future.
Very good. A lot of information which helps improve the method of work. Very please.
I'm not all the way through the tutorial but what I have viewed has been very helpful. As a professional I needed to get up to speed quickly on the basic operation of Logic Pro which the Logic 101 DVD more than covers. Its a must have for all beginners and all the professionals cross grading from you now what to Logic.
Very Clear Tutorial, very good products (and this is just the beginning!) Thank You.
So far, I learned way more than I expected. The tutorials are great.
Very practical and useful. The topics are well explained and it shows a lot of tips that will things easier!
I'm about half way through the course material and am satisfied so far. Boy, there is a lot to learn for a novice and I may have to go back and view them again and again to get more comfortable with some of these concepts. I look forward to learning some of the rudiments of recording guitar tracks and learning how to do takes and basic edits and expect I'll learn more about that in my remaining sessions. Best regards, Jared
Folks, you're awesome! Brilliant Job! Extra cheers to Martin! Keep up the great work…!
I have spent a lot of money in books and videos on cd for Logic and I was always disappointed with the look and feel of the materials and with the relevance. These macPro videos have a superior production quality to anything else I have seen and I can not put in to words how great these Logic courses are. You all have really done a great job and your site will be my first stop from now on when searching for learning materials.
The way N.E.D. works...awesome. I'm new to this so at the moment I don't have any comments, maybe in the future. I can't believe that I didn't discover it sooner. Keep up the good work ;-)
I think your tutorial is great as it showed me a lot of usable shortcuts to save me time on learning the functions of the program and more time playing and capturing my music. It greatly reduced the frustration of trying to learn the program through the operator's manual and is easily accessible when I need to review a specific function. I would definitely recommended this product as it systematically takes you to a competent level in a very short period.
Fantastic! This tutorial has really opened up the program to me in a way that I could never have achieved with just the manual. It's been truly invaluable, like having a private Logic tutor!
Hello, I work everyday with Logic 8 but I bought this video to improve myself. I must say that I was surprised to still learn a lot of new things whereas I thought of mastering logic. Great job and great video as well for the beginners as for the experts. Thanks a lot ! Cheers, Digital Network
I found this to be worth every penny. And I find myself using it now more like a video manual. When I first purchased this tutorial it had a different name and it was very deceiving "Mastering Logic 8" but it was more an over view because it did not go as in-depth as I felt it could on alot of things that sets Logic 8 apart for other DAWs. For instance, the Logic Environment, Plugins with in the version 8 and mastering with Logic 8. Now I would think that the rebuttal to my statement would be that some of these things are brushed in TNT and older Logic 7 tutorials. But I would say first 7 though similar is not 8 and there are is a different look and feel. I switched from Protools and Nuendo to Logic 8 with no introduction to the new DAW. I want to learn all current realities of the new DAW and plugins not old. Where I feel it could have been better in that area But to your credit again it was highly useful for me in hurrying me through the Quick Start Manual
Very nice tutorial. If you want to have a good overview of logic and understand a bit more the different fonctions go for it! The only thing I can say is that it would have been nice if Martin could have spent a bit more time about editing in logic. However it's a nice one to start!
its great. answered a lot of questions can down load right off the site:> will be back for more!
I was not thrilled with the order in which topics were discussed on this tutorial. Also, there could have been a bit more time or detail taken with the audio recording and set-up segments. The MIDI segments could also have been more detailed. I generally don't think enough consideration was taken for absolutely "first time" users of Logic or any type of digital recording set up; much is assumed. What is there is presented clearly, accurately, and for the most part effectively. I would not hesitate to purchase a tutorial such as this again, but I would be prepared to look for certain answers and explanations elsewhere.
awesome tutorials, love the face that all are downloadable, very user friendly
Very good tutorials and great video quality. I would have liked something about Notation in Logic though!
I wouldn't waste time writing this if I weren't actually thankful for this terrififc work. The price to benefit ratio is enourmously in the favor of the buyer. I'll get more value out of Logic pro now than I ever would have otherwise. That's the point! Worth every penny.
this tutorial contained good information but I felt that its focus on the details of building individual voicings slighted the topics of most importance to me. I would have preferred a focus on sequencing, building up beats in different song sections, saving sectioned beats out to midi, stuff like that. That material was present, but I had to skip all the way to the end to get to it.. other than that the material was accurate and solid; I just personally would have preferred a focus more on the things of importance to my operational needs - building up beats, compositing them into song sections, saving them out, that kind of stuff.
I really enjoyed watching this tutorial. Simple steps take you deep into the workflow and show 100% useful tips to enhance your working experience. Continue the way you did this!
Great videos! I like the fact that each segment is short and well categorised in the menu. Would really appreciate the cd/dvd burning function for pc. Also - I get a message when starting up on pc that a file hasn't downloaded fully when they all have! I also get an error message as the NED tries to auto update. Otherwise Brilliant!
Complex application. Instruction nicely done. Wish there were a different piece of instructional music to listen to over and over again. Thanks, RWD
Really good, friendly, clear and concise teaching modules. I would never have found a fraction of the information in the Logic8 programme without these tutorials to get started, since I found that the screen interface is initially overwhelming, compared to Garageband. I will be looking to get the more advanced tutorial set soon. Control Surfaces I have a Studiologic VMK 176 controller keyboard and find it difficult to understand how to programme the controller within Logic8, so that I can use the transport buttons, sliders and knobs to control the Logic screen interface. Are control surface set up examples like this included in the advanced tutorials? If not could they be included? The Studiologic manual is sparse in my view and needs to be re written, but the keyboard is excellent. Kind regards Chris CHRIS ASTON CERAMICS UK
Loved the tutorial, its fantastic value, explains everything from very basic understanding of Logic, to an in depth look at features and what they do for you. Woth every penny, and a must have if you want to get the most out of your software
Great but it is not a basic tutorial to know how to in Logic with Midi, hope Martin with all his talent will proceed in a a tutorial LOGIC 100 step by step running GM in Logic Sometime the simple task of connecting everything together it is a Monster for a beginner, really nice tutorial not basic enough to call it 101
You guys did a great job! Very easy to follow. That's Logic in my Ear!!!
this is the way to go. don't even bother with that 1030 page manual that comes with logic 8. you just pick up so many tips that make learning logic a pleasure. just can't express in words how vital it is to have this tuition. if you have any logic then logic 101 is a must.
Very help full. Makes Logic a lot easier to understand. Would have liked to see more info on mixing. (Panning instruments) and working with acoustic instruments, rather than electronica. Also would have like to see more on transfering projects from one DAW to Another.
Have only gotten a short ways into it and am loving it. Martin Sitter is an engaging instructor, and the lessons are clear and detailed. Lack of time is the only reason I'm not farther along. Very happy that I made this purchase!
I was recommended MPV.com by a colleague who is in the music business and uses a variety of instruments and software to achieve his sound. There was no doubt in his mind that this was the place to start. He was right. If you are looking at Logic Pro 8 and need something to get you up and running - this is it, don't bother going anywhere else.
These are the best I have found. The instruction, layout, and program is just very well done and very easy to "get into". I also had a very slight technical problem which they answered correctly within an hour or two. I am glad you guys are here.
Excellent introduction, not just to Logic, but to Digital Audio in general. Slightly frustrating to begin with, if you are familiar with how Audio works, but the sections on the Logic tools and the ideas for workflow are first-class.
Excellent tutorial. I am a new user to Logic (I have previously used Reason) and this tutorial nicely familiarized me with the basic use of Logic. I look forward to watching the other Logic tutorials I have purchased!
This Tutorial is just Fantastic..learnt HEAPS in such a short period of time, highly recommended
Because of the great reviews I decided to purchase Logic 101: Core Logic 8 and all I can says is a rating of 5 - Best is the correct rating. I'll be getting more MacProVideo real soon.
Fantastic tutorial. I needed to understand the process of building songs in Logic and this tutorial provided me with the base I needed to experiment on my own. Highly recommend this tutorial I refer to it often when I get stuck!
Wow! What a fabulous tutorial. Mark Sitter paces it very nicely, without any overbearing detail. I like the way Mark uses Logic to demonstrate how sound works, which I'd like to think of as a bonus lesson in theory. Without that sort of thing for a novice like me, many of the functions Logic has are simply incomprehensible and remain neglected. Thus 'Logic 101: Core Logic 8' helps me get the most out the program, which helps make the music making process much easier. So having said that, I plan on purchasing more of your tutorials in the future. Keep up the fine standard! Cheers Dan Laverack
Excellent concept....Being able to actually see how to best use Logic makes learning so much easier...It definately beats trying to learn from reading the manual
I'm totally new to Logic and music software in general and this tutorial has allowed me to jump right in. Just looking at Logic used to terrify me before, its not a program you can work out simply by playing around with it, as i discovered! I was also concerned about my lack of theory knowledge, its all very well being told how to change the sampling rate of your wave form, but if you don't know what these things are to begin with, it could be very difficult. However, this basic theory info is covered in the tutorial. I'm about a third of the way through at the moment, and i have taken extensive notes! It's shocking to think that i have learned more from a third of this video then i did at University about music software. This way of learning is actually quite personal, its handy being able to pause the video and go back to take notes, or look back at a menu/file path to look up. Martin, i feel like we're old friends! Also managed to get in on the 33% off offer, which bought the price down to a very reasonable £15! Highly recommended.
This series of tutorials was exactly what I needed to get me started with Logic Studio 8. I am starting from scratch with Logic, and with each session I really feel more and more confident with the software. Thanks for the great work!
Excellent. As English isn't my native language it's really good to both see and hear the guidance. the possibility to rewind and quick go forward as a repetive effect is really good. I will certainly recommend your tutorials.
as a former logic user back in the OS9 days, core logic 8 helped me considerably in getting up to speed after a 5 year hiatus from music production. Martin Sitter has a good sense of humor and made the transition much less arduous. props to the man. i wish this tutorial existed back in the day -- it would have saved me a lot of time.
Excellent tutorial. Very easy to follow and fantastic as a reference when working through the program. I can't think of a single thing I would suggest to improve it. Keep up the great work.
This is the best instructional video I have ever watched. I will be purchasing more videos soon!!! thanks keep up the great work
My first video from macprovideo but not the last, that's for sure. Martin presents Logic 8 with such elegance and humour, that the 450 minutes feel like a second. By the end you actually feel sorry that it has to end! Very helpful, well constructed and original in it's approach. Thumbs up!
This tutorial was a great help. Considering the manuals that come with Logic Pro are massive and overwhelming, this video gets you going quickly. Plus all the shortcuts and tips really speeds up your work flow drastically. I can't wait for the next tutorial!!
I must be honest I am usually a skeptic when it comes to tutorials but finally someone is making tutorials the way I need them to be made! This tutorial is awesome. I am a "seasoned" Pro Tools user and it is difficult to sometimes transition when you are so comfortable with a particular product . But I really wanted to learn Logic so I got it and then purchased this tutorial. Because I know what a DAW is supposed to do, there were certain things i was looking for and this tutorial showed me 90% of the stuff that I wanted to see presented. 90% is incredible when it is only Logic 101 and there are other tutorials still left to learn from. Do yourself a favor... get it!!! I am planning to get all of their tutorials. Check out their other product tutorials as well. All of them are really really good!!!
I found the tutorial "Logic 101: Core Logic" extremely helpful as a new user to Logic. It was very clear, and has got me excited to play and learn more as I go...
Hi. I'm not quite done with this training but so faer it is a good introduction.
The tutorial gives you a step by step instruction on Logic 8. This is for beginners and advance users that upgraded from Logic Pro 7 to Logic Pro Studio.
The Logic 101 video course (Core Logic 8) is laid out in a very orderly fashion while introducing the more complicated subjects later. Martin does a great job of making the more tedious and sometimes boring subjects fun which helps keep up the interest, which is a big deal for me and a lot of people watching training videos. I would highly recommend to anyone not familiar with Logic Pro 8 to purchase this video course. The price is a steal for all the detailed training you get. Not to mention the many hours- if not days of frustration you could save by trying to learn the program on your own through books or other means. Martin's upbeat attitude and dedication to detail add a whole dimension to e-learning.
I think that all of your tutorials are excellent They are very comprehensive and well thought out. You can quote me on that if you like!
still didn't watch the whole tutorial but i can say that i've been very surprised and surprised the very good way of things. i thought that u would explain how works the program & not how works the sound in general...it helps me much more than expected. so congrats for this fantastic videos. Nick
a great help; well presented and easy to follow instructions; a much easier way to learn than reading the manual; watching someone do it is the way
This is the best tutorial I ever watched, this is really simple and easy to understand and cover all the basics of Logic and sound editing. It is a must buy for beginners and intermediate users.
Very useful and interesting tutorials well worth the money...
Great Video... well organized... some good explanations on sound ... I switched from PC and Cubase to Mac and Logic back in November so it's all pretty new to me... I got up and running in Logic pretty quick but this video really helped uncover some of the deeper things that I wouldn't have even thought of and also altered my workflow... which is definitely a help creatively. I purchase 5 more of your training videos after getting only about 1/3 of the way through this one so I think that says it all. Thanks Kevin
This is the second logic tutorial i've purchased. Like the tutorial series for 7, this one is great. It touches on everything you'd need to know to get familiar with Logic 8. The only criticism I can offer is that the series seems pretty heavily weighted on loop based production. With Logic 8 's ability to do sample accurate edits in the arrange window, i think it's important to show just how powerful L8 can be as an audio editor right in the arrange window. I would imagine that a tutorial focused on those folks swtiching from PTle to L8 would be a big seller. Seeing how there always are a few threads bouncing around on the topic.
i have found this training dvd very good and when i have the time to complete these videos i will purchase more. thanks, my only critisism is that i think you should get the choice to download the product as you do and have the dvd sent too for a little extra cost. but other than that very good
I had to give the video a 5. I feel it provided more information on the theory of sound than I have taken in on any instructional videos in the past. I believe that as this is good, I would have liked to know say for instance how to set the amount of midi captured by (control *)...etc etc. I did however learn more than I thought I would...=)
I thought the program was very comprehensive and moved in quick short clips that kept my attention. Also the flow of the program worked well. I would like to purchase additional programs
Great stuff, Martin. I haven't even received my new Mac or Logic 8 yet, still I feel prepared for diving in once they arrive thanks to your easy to understand tutorial (love the humour as well). I've already ordered three more MacProVideo tutorials (at that wonderfully generous 33% discount you offered), which are making the whole process of getting up to speed so much easier. And just last night I came across your FREE tutorial on switching from Windows XP to Mac Leopard. Thanks for that unexpected bonus. You guys are blowing me away. All the best to each and every one of you. Cheers, Grant
Generally good quality and useful information. Don't like the infomercial for loops from your sister site. Don't like the repetition from one video to the next on occasion. The clips are only a minute or two long and it feels like valuable time is wasted repeating the same info over again instead of assuming (rightly) that I have just watched the previous video and expect it to flow into the next. Martin Sitter is quite clear and good at explaining.
I have worked my way through the beginning section of the tutorials and am very impressed with them. I told myself that I would learn all the basics thoroughly to get the most from logic and these tutorials are providing a great basis for my knowledge, Im sure as they continue they will mantain the standard displayed so far. Thanks
I´m very happy with your videos. the voice talking is pleasant and well articulated, understandable for a non native. The pace is good I want them all. Thanhk you Martin and Olav Basoski.
Amazing good value for money and very easy to follow. Great product; before getting into the big paper manuals it will get you started right away! The only thing I miss is a picture of Martin himself since I would like to put a face to this great teacher! Ciao, Richard, Spain
I feel the dvd was very good, it was straight to the point in all subjects matters. Keep up the good work!
This is an excellent tutorial. It is fairly comprehensive. Being familiar with Logic, I was looking more for a "Upgrading to Logic 8" tutorial. This is an excellent review which gave me different perspectives and workflow techniques to use.
This IS really helpful! This is so much better then reading the manuals! I don`t really need them now! Thanks!
martin is a genius.... this series goes far beyond using logic and knowing its features... he teaches the fundamentals of sound and goes through the composition of an actual track.... the amount of effort and thought that went into this module is seriously impressive... very happy with the purchase
It was the first time i'd tried MacProVideo product. Logic Pro 8 What can I say: I'm Happy as a litttle boy for christmas. I can't wait until logic pro 8 (2) will be out. (I hope it will) Dearest Thomas
This was the perfect companion to my new installation of Logic Pro 8. Martin has really done an outstanding job of making the material approachable and easily understandable. His personality and wit come through nicely in the narrations which makes this series very enjoyable. I would definitely recommend it to both new and existing Logic Pro users.
Exactly what I needed! I have watched the whole tutorial twice and come back to it a couple of times. Martin is an excellent guide in this fascinating world of Logic Express, after his down-to-earth explanations I am even beginning to understand the manual. It is so much better to see it happen than to read about it. Thank you very much!
Martin, I have truly enjoyed your work putting these tutorials together. Great job. I wish I would have found them sooner. The encoding and the program that you have created for viewing are superb!! I look forward to purchasing more ways to learn. Michael
I am a music hobbyist who recently changed from the PC to Mac, and from Sonar to Logic Express. I had already worked through the Apple Courseware book on Logic before I bought the video. I believed that I needed additional training. The video is very good, although parts can be confusing. Using the word "instantiate" which is not explained until a very late lesson caused me some confusion. Also, the portion of the lesson that is done in Soundtrack Pro is somewhat useless to Logic Express owners, as we don't have that. I did appreciate the whole description on how audio waves work, as that was the first time I connected with the idea of the electrically caused movement of a speaker cone as producing music. It helped me understand the waveforms. If I hvae one complaint it is that some of the lesson could be better titled or indexed to allow referencing at a later time. The video is a lot to take in, but the breaks are placed at good points. I give it a very stong 4.
I was having trouble navigating my Logic 8 , even the little things I was doing wrong was limiting me in my pursuit of making a great recording. Core Logic 8 in the first 5 minutes showed me the shortcuts using the keyboard and sent me on my way!!! I have not even made it all the way through the video yet and I have made tremendous strides. By the time i get to the end I know that I will be making records! Core Logic 8 was the best the thing I bought, next to the Mac of course!!! Highly Recommend
Great tutorial but wish there was more on the editing tools and atroubleshooting section also recording path was really breezed over I realize its impossiable to cover everything so great otherwise!
I have have been recording as a hobby for years. Went from 4 track tape to logic pro 7 and now logic studio. I absolutely love these tutorials. At last I have found an effective way to learn this massive and complicated program. MacProVideo has revolutionised the way i learn. I love it. Keep up the good work.
Hi Everybody I am still working on with this tutorial and it's very helpful. I'm looking forward to the other six tutorials and sending you my impressions. Greetings, Beat
I have been very happy with the tutorials and have nearly completed both. I am considering purchasing additional tutorials 303 and 202. We are a new studio growing from a home/project setup to a small commercial enterprise. We have migrated away from protools and committed largely to Logic. As an apprentice engineer my primary challenge is managing multiple take tracking sessions, managing the numerous files generated by the process and effectively providing a comfortable recording environment (monitor levels, positive communications, etc.) with the talent. Sometimes I feel like the proverbial one armed paper hanger. I have accidentally recorded over tracks or not armed tracks, etc. on more than one occasion causing delays and aggravation for me, producer and talent. Do you have any suggestions or tutorials that may address production methods or strategies? So far I have been very happy with your material!
Hi Martin, Thank you so much for making the daunting task of getting up to speed on an application as rich and complex as LOGIC 8 feel like fun. The Logic 101 video pleasantly surprised me many times by thwarting my usual skepticism of such tutorials. Each time I would say to myself "This video is great but I am sure he won't cover XYZ"... sure enough you do cover "XYZ" (and much more) using fantastic and intuitive examples that are immediately applicable for a musician/composer. As you can probably tell, you have a new big fan!! Best, John Townsend
Ah......Swami Sitter. Wondrous knowledge and a vocal countenance that oozes GeekChic. Bewilderingly informative and affable sense of having someone hold my hand....excellent. Snitt Nayzelsplatt
I have only made it through the first few videos -- but so far very nice, just like the Logic 7 I purchased back in 06. I love the style of the narration and the examples -- this is why I chose to get the Logic 8 tutorial when I bought the software.
Hi there. this comment apply to all videos: Great videos. one suggestion though; It will be great to have a text index for all topics and tips addressed in all videos. Some times I remember a great tip I saw on one of the videos but it takes me forever to find it. Thanks,
Well, after buying both tutorials books (some years ago, now) I then bought logic 101 MASTERING LOGIC 7, and now I bought your new LOGIC 101 about version 8...... Do I need to say anything else??????? The quickest way of understanding LOGIC logic ????? Mr. Sitter tutorials!!!!!!! (actually I feel like I were a good friend of yours, because the tutorials are made in a way that make you think that...) THANKS A LOT FOR IT....... MacProVideo rules... love from Rome!!!! francesco
Clear, simple and direct. As a result, very enlightening. Even though I've been using logic ever since Emagic started it, there is always some thing you miss because there is so much packaged in Logic. Core Logic 8 should not be underestimated by any one! The difference between Logic 7 and 8 is pretty dramatic, in my opinion, and Core Logic 8 is really worth looking into. My one complaint is that Martin has a slight Mister Rogers style to his voice over work but he's still cool! Buy it!
One of the best tutorial which is easy to digest and understand. Keep up the Good Work!!
I'm moving to Logic from using Cubase for years. The 101 training video really helped in making the transition. I now know how to do things that I knew how to do in Cubase. Maybe even a bit more. This is my first try in using net video tutorials and I have to say that videos work a lot better than books. One point reducted because I felt that the instructor was stretching some things a bit too much. But I suppose that I'm a bit different client as I'm familiar with other DAW's already. Less experienced people might benefit from the slower pacing and repeating.
Great Video. However I wish you would have gone more into the environment and more specifically midi input into logic on this video. overall a great and very easy to understand training
Hi So far I like it It moves a little fast for me and I would like to have more time on file/folder management. I am headed to the Arctic(Kugluktuk) to work with kids at risk in a couple of weeks and I will I will be buying this same tutorial for their computer. Earlier I bought an Ableton live training DVd from you folks and it never worked in my computer,I really should have bought the downloaded version instead. Anyhow so far so good thanks Mike The charity I started is at www.artscancircle.ca
As someone who has been making music on the Mac since 1997, my main objective for watching the Logic 101: Core Logic 8 video was to quickly get up to speed. In the beginning I continually found myself reflecting "If only I had this type of tutorial when I was just getting started. This is really very relevant information for the beginner which is delivered in a manner that creates a comfortable learning experience." Presenting the material in very small segments means that someone new to Logic can easily digest bits of information or procedures which add up to a knowledge base and skills competency that is quite substantial by the end of the video. The discussion of waveforms (doubling them to increase volume, shifting them for creative effect etc) lays down framework for understanding phase coherency when creating mono mixes from stereo. There were so many useful demonstrations of procedures that would a require a considerable amount of time to absorb if I had to gain the information solely from hardcopy which I value very much. The video content really steam rolls from easy to some very sophisticated procedures: 1. Making Icons 2. How to index loops and using the Apple Loop Utility. I glanced over the text and put it aside. However, the video illustrated just how easy it is to actually make loops. I now see the possibility of making a few of my own. 3. Re-synthesizing the audio loop into a midi region using Ultra Beat was a very clever way of covering many skill areas. 4. How to Pack and Unpack folders. 5. Going through all of the bounce options cleared up many lingering questions I had. 6. Quick Swipe Comping. 7. Layering Channel Strips by cabling them in the Environment. Reading through that sequence would have taken me several days to really comprehend. A couple of rewinds of the video put all of the pieces into place for me! 8. How to set up Mix groups. The list just keeps growing! The amount and quality of information presented in t...
Many years back I was a Vision user but was priced into a PC platform. After bouncing around with various recording applications I decided to go back to using the Mac now that I can afford it! So I jumped in at Logic 8 and macprovideo.com got me up to speed in hours rather than weeks. Thanks guys the value far exceeds the price.
Martin, You do an amazing job of presenting the material and demonstrating the steps to take. I look forward to stealing a few minutes out of the day to view a few lessons whenever I get a chance. Will probably take all the classes in the future as I get done with the current. Only thing that might help is a keyboard command sheet on PDF or something to use as quick reference as presented on order of lessons. Thanks for you great work. PS really enjoy the Canadian accent...reminds me of growing up on northern Montana and going to the clubs in Lethbridge Alberta and drinking the strong beer when I was 18.
I'm quite new to Logic, bought it less than a fortnight ago... I am very satisfied so far with this introductory course. (I haven't tried other courses, though...). The short lessons makes it easy to find just what I'm looking for, when I don't remember how I do this or that operation in Logic 8. It's a new - and very exciting - world for me. I'm most interested in a combination of using loops together with my own guitar and keyboard and voice. What other courses do you have to offer someone like me? Best regards Anders Daae
Excellent tutorial, and a very reasonable price considering the amount of invaluable knowledge that is contained within. It's fairly easy to figure out the basic functions of Logic on your own, but this video does 2 things. 1. Improve your workflow speed by teaching you to utilise UI features more effectively. 2. Explain the advanced features that you couldn't really figure out yourself, like manipulating the environment (which previously had me completely stumped). Excellent work Martin, I'm really glad I bought this tutorial and have already recommended macProVideo to others.
This tutorial of Logic 101: Core Logic 8 was very helpful. I learned a lot about logic 8. I am coming from a Pro-Tools back ground and ordered the tutorial to help me with the learning curve. I look forward to the next installment.
I must say I was skeptic, because sometimes you come across sites who have reviews that look like an inside job. Well let me say I'm not affiliated with these guys by any means so the following statement is as organic as Florida oranges...This is hands down the best tutorial you are going to find. The sections are short, but the content is vast which makes it very easy to rewind, fast forward, etc etc. I was somewhat familiar with logic, but this video really served as a test and gave me courage to do some exploring on my own. GRADE = A+ e^10
Very informative. It helped me to learn the program. Did exactly what it was intended to do.
Simply the best! Incredibly organized and presented. Couldn't be better in it's information and presentation. The only thing I would wish for is a more in depth section on all of the editing tools. Is there a supplement training that address's this a little more? I always recommend your company!
Love it!!! Nice job breaking down the intricacies of Logic 8. I've been "shedding" each chapter... Keep up the good work...
Hi Macprovideo I'm new to logic, after watching your video on Logic 101:Core Logic 8, I start makeing Tracks right away. Thanks Macprovideo.
UK user, new to Logic. Recently purchased Logic Pro. These tutorials are excellent value - highly recommended. A million times better than a document or help-book because you see the mouse on the screen as it works with clear, real-time explanations from an obviously experienced user/tutor. Fantastic value. My learning curve has gone exponential. Thanks to macProvideo for a real quality product.
I'd already purchased MPV's Logic 7 but I thought the Logic 8 tutorial would smooth over the transition. It's a great introduction to the new version of Logic and I recommend it without hesitation
Hi, I'm a pretty experienced user of Logic, been using it regularly since version 4. That being said, I still am getting alot out of the Logic 101 tutorial. I skip over some sections, but I am learning some new tricks, especially as I adapt to Logic 8. I should probably get the tricks and tips one as well. One thing I would like to see is a midi lesson on "living groove". Don't know how to explain this, I saw someone demoing it at a conference a few years ago and it blew me away. Unfortunately, I couldn't recall how it was done once I got home to my studio... Anyway, good job, I truly like the tutorials! Jim Coleman
I am fairly new to Logic.Transferring in despair from Cubase 3 & PC to Logic 7 & Mac Pro. I have Logic 101 but I find Core Logic8 is more intuitive by following the song thro the various features of Logic. I feel much more confident using the program. Switching to Apple Mac Pro has also given a more stable platform to work on.
Martin's Logic 8 101 tutorial is fantastic! I was already a pretty experienced user of Logic 7, but in switching to version 8, I thought i'd need some help getting around and learning the new features, look, and workflow. Martin's video totally nailed it for me.
I thought the tutorial was perfectly paced. It seems as though a novice would not feel overwhelmed, and a pro would not be bored. That said, I am a singer songwriter, and am not into electronic music, so I would have appreciated an added bit on vocal pitch correction. It would be refreshing to see someone address users like myself, and our particular needs as guitar players/singers, in conjunction with a program like this. Still, I learned alot, and at a rapid pace, yet I feel I retained most of the info, knowing I can go back and review at any time. The program got me up and running immediately.
I was new to Logic, so this video tutorial was just what i needed. Excellent stuff!!
I recently upgraded to Logic 8.My level of expertise with Logic being very basic, I searched everywhere for tutorials.I have some books I was working from - and they are fine - but I have to say the macPro videos are just brilliant. I find them really clear and very concise. Seeing the various operations taking place right in front of me, with everything explained is such a help. Also, it is so easy to pinpoint the particular event I wish to learn. Top marks! Thanks very much David
Sory for my bad english It's a good Tutorial. I dont't like : electronic music I dont't like : the intro with the logo, too long I dont't like : there is no lesson of "tab tempo" and "table des battements (in french)" I like : I've learn the base of Logic in few hours. I like : N.E.D. is usefull Thanks
Great product! I've learned dozens of applications by reading books. From web design, to graphic design to music software. Nowadays I have less time. I as able to learn so much in way less time than reading a book! I'm looking forward to new tutorials.
I love it !! and it's fine to get updates. all the best from Marrakech.
Just finished working through the program and found it very helpful. Being a Singer/Songwriter I would have liked more info on Audio Editing Tips & Tricks and maybe one lesson on Vocal Pitch correction. It was obvious that Angel/Allison's vocal needed some help and then in last couple of lessons it HAD been corrected - it would have been nice to have walked through the process as her pitches were corrected.
This training is great for a novus engineer. It teaches both Logic and the basics of engineering and sound. For experienced engineers, this training wastes a great deal of time on very basic things (eg. sine waves, phase cancellation, what digital converters do, etc.) Many engineers, who are very experienced with other DAWs, are now taking a look at Logic for the first time because of its new features, great sound quality and pricing. Therefore, you may want to include a summary section that very quickly shows how to perform each of the different functions demonstrated throughout the training - it would be a good review tool or quick "how to" index.
This tutorial is great- I was hoping for something to teach me the basics of Logic (which it did) but I got so much more, too. My workflow is much more streamlined, I have a great understanding of track and effect automations, using my DSP effects, mastering, etc. I could go on and on. Top job!!!
An excellent introduction to Logic Pro. I'd not used Logic before and was quickly able to start using it. I particularly liked the way the videos explain some of the crucial background principles (like waveforms, frequency, etc.) that other books leave out. There's some really invaluable information here. A much nicer way to learn than the huge stack of books that comes in the box! Thank you!
Thanks very much Martin for the concise and to the point tutorial on Logic Studio. Once I got going on the tutorial it was hard to stop at times as I could hardly wait to get to the next movie. Great info and tips. I have used Express for quite a while and decided to step up to Pro when Studio came out. I am very glad I did. You make what can at first be rather daunting easy. Thanks again! I will be back for more!
The tutorials are well planned and presented. Martin is especially good at narrating what he's doing and why (and how else you might do it), even for simple operations. This means that just watching him work gives you a lot of familiarity with the program in just a little time. This was worth a lot to me.
This, being my first tutorial really wet my appetite for more! While I wasn't a fan of the particular musical selection, the information was very satisfying. Keep it coming!
switching to logic was a breeze. I really really recommend this tutorial.
Thank you for a very well done set of tutorials. The format is a lot more friendly than reading manuals, and a lot of crucial information is presented here in a very well thought out manner. I really like the presentation format a lot and would like to purchase more videos for Logic, however, it looks like most everything else involves only synths & stuff for electronic music, which isn't my bag. If you would produce more tutorials pertaining to Logic and Audio recording/editing, I would gladly purchase more stuff. Nonetheless, as a complete noob with Logic (any version), after going through this series, I was able to whip my way through the app and lay down tracks fairly easily. As this is the primary function of these videos, I have to give a 5 rating for that.
It's empressive but I'm still in the early stages. There's so much more to logic than Garage Band . so I think this video will be even more essential .
I was very impressed with Logic 101. I have been using logic 7 for over 12 months and didn't think that there would be much to learn from a beginners tutorial. Well I'm glad to say I was wrong. Logic 101 is packed with easier ways of doing things and useful bits of info I just had never thought about before. It would be nice if there was a way to have your existing purchases count towards a discount if you end up buying the whole package. Because I enjoyed 101 I have since down loaded the Sculpture, ES2 and the 303 Tutorials. It would be nice if there was a way that customers like myself could complete the Package for the original package rate. The Igor references don't do it for me and could probably be omitted in the future. But to end I must say that you have all done very well. Keep it up.
By chance, I found this webside. And immediately I downloaded the N.E.D and the Logic 101 tutorial. I was very surprised about the easy installation and the good quality of the videos. To use the N.E.D. is straightforward, very simple and easy to use. All in one it's worth every cent. And for sure, it was not the last tutorial I purchased from "Mac Pro Video".
On the positive side, a fabulous video for getting started and learning Logic Express 8. I personally like watching a video instead of reading a book. For me that works better. The thing that I had a little problem with was understanding the spoken word. The conversational style is fine. For me it would have helped if Martin spoke a little slower. I appreciate his enthusiasm with the subject matter, but sometimes his words would trail off at the end of a sentence. Many times I had to stop and play the video over and over. I even changed the EQ settings on my computer. I rolled off all the lows so I could understand better. I haven't completed the entire video yet, but I found myself not concentrating on the sections about Amplitude and Sampling. I think less time could be spent on those subjects and more on something else. I'm speaking for a beginner now. For anyone getting started with LE8, I would definitely recommend this video and I will. I hope my critique was not offensive to you. Thanks Peter
Hey, thanks a lot for the Logic Tutorial. I had a lot fun whatching them. For me you can focus more on the complett Studio where people are using Logic. Where important for me is: Working with Logic Controls Timecode Video Inserter from Unitor 8 to the TV Display, Working with Surround in Logic 8, Working with other DSP Based PlugIns (for example UAD and SSL), and also the Bugs that Logic 8 already has! I have got differnet Problems with the new Logic 8. Some Grafik Problems. LED Meters when Recording only works with Monitor Inpute and some Bugs making new Tracks. For Example Making an Mono Aux Track will make an new Track, a Stereo Aux doesn´t make a new Track. I you are interesting in all Problem i send you a longer Mail. And sorry for my bad German english :-) Greets from germany Sebastian Struck
Exelent training. A little too much trance music, but the technics are much the same. I miss something about cutting bandwith on single notes
Pretty good stuff. Could be streamlined in places, but worth every penny nonetheless. Will subscribe to more Logic Pro tutorials.
Great Stuff! never a dull moment with Martin Sitter. Great tutorial, I've just recently converted to Logic 8 from Logic Pro7 and this was beneficial just even for making the change over rather seamless. Good job MacPro keep up the good work. Chris. Silver Pine Digital New Zealand.
If you have logic 8, then i think it you'll definitely need this video to learn the basics of this software. I feel that the video cover a great amount about logic, only i feel the sample editor and the midi editing functions such as humanize etc should have been covered or be covered in the future. Thankyou
Home studio setup. Play guitar, learning keyboard. Prior pro tools user. New to logic. Tutorial is very extensive. Covers what I need to know as a new user. Forum is helpful as well. I plan on attending a logic training session at the Apple store. I believe the tutorial is a "bang for the buck". I like being able to burn the download to dvd as well.
Packed with useful tips and tricks, this tutorial is helping me to get to grips with the basics of using Logic. The non-linear approach takes a bit of getting used to. I am the type who likes to work through everything in a logical and thorough manner and when a different approach is taken I am concerned that I am missing out on essential information. However, I am beginning to apply the teaching to my own music development, and it's particularly useful being able to swap between NED and Logic in realtime.
I think the Logic 8 video is very well done. I am still working through the video and one thing I would like to see improved is the flow and detail from one subject to the next. A couple of the commands and subsequent menus open and close so quickly I could not grasp what was happening. That said, overall it was a great way to learn the basics of the new program. I had never had any experience with Logic. It is a fantastic program and I think the video enabled me to get up and running very quickly.
I found this training video to be very helpful. I am new to recording and Logic. Right away I was able to lay audio and midi tracks and edit them. Thank you Robert Havard
Very in depth. I switched from Cubase to logic studio 8 for all the features that came with it. While I was able to figure out the basics of operation, I had no idea of all the features. This video covered everything that the program offers and more. Thank you for a great product.
Excellent graphically & easy to follow. It's literally a one to one personal tuition with the advantage that the tutor is always on demand. Only problem was I found I could only load the free ones into my other computer.
A long time musician who has recently started with Logic Studio 8 for the first time.I was fully impressed how Martin has presented this new up-grade. All prevent areas where covered in this begin overview of this massive program, with excellent subject matter which is to be expected when dealing with a place of origin. Of course many of us perhaps would of loved to of seen more live instruments involved with the tutorials, but you really can't give all in the first DVD. I would like to stress this would even pass a few tips over to a season Logic user.
I found the 101 to be very helpful in terms of coming to terms with the basics of Logic's operation. I did feel though that more focus could have been put on some areas, such as audio editing and use of Logic's built in instruments and effects. I assume these will be covered more in the following tutorials. One thing I would definitely recommend would be including a subscription with the Logic 101 tutorial where users get a small update each month via N.E.D that covers a few selected sections from the following tutorials. This way users could get some helpful advice to further their education and would be more prone to purchasing the tutorials that interested them in full. I for one would love to move onto Logic 303, but can't afford another tutorial and am also unsure on exactly how it could help me in the areas I am interested in, even though these are covered briefly in the course outline. Thanks =)
I have videos for both Core Logic 8 and mastering Pro Tools 7, as I run both softwares from my school / studio. Excellent videos that complement both software manuals as needed. I would love to see a favourites tab as I have already experienced a great need for such in these 2 great video tutorials!
Great Job. Maybe you can do an entire tutorial on the score editor (from a simple leadsheet to a full big band chart and full orchestral scores). I think this would be very helpful for the many traditionally trained musicians out there who struggle a bit with the technology side of logic.
Logic 101: Core Logic 8 was very informative, and I learn something new each time I watch it. The delivery is as easy to understand as it comes. I look forward to purchasing further videos, once I master the basics. Thanks Chad
I've never used an online tutorial before so I can't tell how this stacks up against other tutorials. All I know is, I spent 5 years using Cubase and never learned a tenth of the things I have learned in one week using Logic with this tutorial. It is not rocket science, but you still need someone to show you what is going on and audition the different ways you can do things. It has been like finding a new friend in pro audio who has taken the time to sit and show me all the cool stuff in Logic. I'm making the best music I've ever made too.
absolutly brilliant training video i was a complete novice to logic although ive used cubase in the past this has saved me so much time and head scratching many thanks and all the best for xmas and the new year cheers Paul
Excellent! Thanks for your great training and tips. Helped me a lot. We should be on youtube by January with one of the ten songs created with Logic 7 and 8 and soon as I get thru the Final Cut Training and get the video put together with the music.
Very good and usefull, i don´t understand inglish very well and i still be able to learn with the tutorial, it is good for me the orange writen pop up messages about the use of key comands due to my limited inglish, i hope we can see soon a more advanced tutorial to continue learning, something with tips mixing equalizing and compression use will be good for me and a deeper instruction about environement and adaptation of software like kontakt 3 like multiinstrument and how to do track automation in the auxiliar outs of this kind of virtual instruments. i name kontakt but STYLUS RMX is another example.
You guys have made my music so much more productive and free flowing Thanks a ton Macprovideo.com You Rock
very good tutorial, highly informative and easy to follow. Excellent work.
i have 17 years exp. in music recording, i am self taught and have thousands of satisfied customers , i hate DAW and vowed to never even look into it, "everything i do is warm tube driven analog." I never surfed the web, sent an e-mail, or even viewed the internet until a job forced me in 2003. a year later i bought a g4 laptop, as garage band made me a convert. i now own a g5 desktop and 2 macbook pros, when logic studio came out i snapped it up. At 37 years old i am now learning computers from the ground up, with very little to draw from in my personal experiences. I found logic overwhelming and frustrating, especially as i paired it with apogee's ensemble ,and maestro software. A friend suggested this site, 50$ and a week later and i am not just up and running but doing work i never thought possible. I love this tutorial, each function is revealed in detail and i love the fact that it takes time to show the myriad of different possibilities in each of logics function, consider me a lifelong, repeat customer.
Hi Martin, The Logic Pro 8 101 series is fantastic. My first introduction to Logic was Logic 7, and your video series for that one catapulted me to the heights of Logic heaven. I frequently referred back to those videos to review areas that I needed to brush up on... They were (and still are) an absolute essential resource for using Logic. Now that Logic Pro 8 has arrived, it was with great joy to see that you had produced yet another blockbuster teaching series. Viewing your Logic Pro 8 videos is like a book that you just can't put down. The way that you demonstrated the creation of a great song from start to finish was wonderful. The teaching points were succinct, intelligent, and absolutely essential to understanding how to get the most out of Logic Pro 8. One of the things that I love so much about this series is that it displays even better than the last series your remarkable teaching talents in addition to your musical abilities. I am so thankful for MacProvideo.com. Hats off to a great production. Thanks again.
I'm about 3/4 of the way through the video. All I can say is this is definetly the most informative vid I've seen. I'll be purchasing more. Thanks..
I find this to be a very un-musical approach to Logic. It is not a coincidence that the tutorial begins with a sine wave, the coldest sound available. The instructor is caught in bar schemes, blocks and repetition. And he even gives musical instructions, remarks how music should be - this is totally off. Hence midi related issues have vast priority over real audio. How do I edtit a multi-track recording when the drummer is off-time or when an instrument comes in out of time - how can I fix audio tracks... there is nothing about this in the tutorial.
Logic 101: Core Logic 8 is a great tutorial. It really does start from the beginning with Logic 8. The instructor is great in helping you to understand by creating a fun learning environment. These video tutorials are better than any book out there. You can pause, rewind or fast-forward to any chapter with their awesome tutorial manager and chapter menu. This makes it very easy to come back to a favorite tutorial. I highly recommend these video tutorials to beginners as well as seasoned professionals. Thanks MacProVideo for this great tutorial.
This is an excellent tutorial - it has a very positive and light vibe also I am new to the short segment format and think it is also excellent - great for honing in on specific areas. Bravo
Core Logic 8 is the absolutely BEST way to learn the important basics of the program, as well as about digital recording theory in general! Martin's elequent, interesting speaking style makes this a topic that never gets boring or rambling on - in short, this should be considered essential watching for anyone interested in furthering their "craft". GET IT TODAY!
This product is just what I needed!!! Absolutely awesome!!!!!!!!!!
This is the best Logic training material I have come across. This is a great introduction to the tools that Logic has to offer, at the same time it was refreshing the way lessons were presented. I especially liked the way that lessons had real world examples coupled with tricks and techniques thrown in.
The best tutorial you ever made. Great idea to construct the training this way. There are just few aspects missing. Best tutorial up to now. I`m waiting for more to come.
What can I say, excellent value for money, easy to understand tutorial. Will help speed up the learning process immeasurably. Thanks Martin.
I have been using Logic 7 and recently started using Logic 8 Studio. I also use Protools & Ableton Live. The Core Logic 8 101 training is the quickest & most comprehensive way of learning the product. Highly recommended.
Hey Martin! All I can say is....THANK YOU! The Core Logic 8 course has saved this Logic Studio "newbie" alot of headaches. You really helped me wrap my head around the basics of this very powerful program, and gave me a ton of great shortcuts along the way. I love the fact that every lesson is individually accessible and categorized for easy reference at a later time should I need a quick refresher. And your concise, no nonsense approach keeps me on my creative track should I need to reference a video with a question while working on a song. I have been waiting a long time for a program like Logic Studio to make recording and songwriting on the road a much easier process, and your course has given me a heck of a jump start. Thanks for making it all come together! Scott Appleton Guitar Tech Phil Collen/Def Leppard Neal Schon/Journey
Hey Martin, sorry about the delay in sending my review. I work as a Creative (Trainer) at an Apple store where I teach a lot of music applications, but Logic in particular, so I was extremely pleased that you got those videos on Logic 8 out there so quickly. Thanks to you I was able show my students all the new features in Logic 8 shortly after it arrived in the store. With each download I was able to quickly grasp some of the improvements to an already amazing application. Your instruction method is concise and to the point and delivered in a casual manner that I really enjoy. Thanks again for providing such great information and kudos for getting it out there is such a timely manner. Looking forward to the next round of videos. Sincerely Pete Becker
So far so good! I'm about 75% through the course, and its saved me countless hours reading that 1000+ page manual (ick!) and learning through trial and error. Logic 8 may be more streamlined than past versions, but its a daunting program to a new user, and it has its own unique ways of handling certain studio functionality. I watched the video, and remember going "A-ha!" several times as it answered my questions of HOW to do certain tasks. Once you understand how to think Logically, it seems second nature, but UNTIL you know, you fight the studio, instead of making music. Who wants that? And you got to love the price, compared to other comparable courses on the market. Recommended!
I have thoroughly enjoyed the tutorials on Logic 8, which I have used to brush up and learn the new version. I have been a Logic user for over 10 years. My only criticism is that sometimes the Tutorials utilize media examples that the user doesn't have. Does this mean you are expected to just watch? Use your own examples? It seems to me that given the interactive nature of the tutorials, it would be advisable to either provide the user with all media used, or only use media that comes with Logic. Other than that, the tutorials are informative, entertaining, and sometimes enlightening as they introduce concepts and ideas I hadn't considered. Thanks and keep them coming! Randall Packer Professor of Multimedia American University Washington DC
I really enjoy these videos and now I know where to get good and competent training videos - really my best recommandations!
The Logic 8 course contains tons of useful information. I like that it was organized according to the process of creating a song, thereby giving contextual relevance to the instruction. While I also have the Environment video, I would appreciate a couple of takes that refreshes this to Logic 8, especially given that the new manuals treat some of the elements as almost deprecated (e.g. Input and Bus Channels). I would also love to see more about using aux channels. Maybe one of the other many courses I purchased covers that.
Awesome!!! Just Awesome. I just bought logic 8 and switched over from Cubase. This aided the transition quite nicely. And I have only made it through the first chapter. I reallly like how it is split up so that once you learn something new you can close NED and put it into practice.
An informative, relaxed introduction to Logic 8 with some great tips and insights into creating your music. Can't wait for Logic 201. Well done.
I found your tutorials most informative clear and precise ! However, as an ex pro woodwind big band player/ arranger I found a lot of the material superfluous to my needs. nevertheless a most excellent bunch of tutorials ! Thank You for all your efforts.
I Couldn't be more satisfied with this purchase. Hope you make many more tutorials so I can improve my productions.
Excellent overview. Covered all the essential areas to get up and running. Very thorough.
Great job on this one Martin. Because I recommended your site to friends of mine, just by buying and watching your tutorials they have switched from Sonar, Cubase & Nuendo to Logic Pro. All of them have tried Logic at some point but after your tutorials, everything is clear cut.
Very thorough and helpful. I am still not completely through the training but what I've seen has already saved me many hours of trying to figure it out on my own.
Generaly I like the new tutorial, but I would like that for some things they give an esplicacion more completes, like a Rewire in Logic
GREAT VIDEOS !! Wonderful explanations and demonstrations. Can't wait for Logic 102 !! Is it out yet? Thank you all at macProVideo.com !
Very helpful and easy to understand (even for me as a german :-) But I can't watch the first Chapters from 1 to 9 ("Intro to this 101" to "Using the zoom tool"). Those chapters are listed in red letters and the time info is set to zero. What can I do to get access to those video files?
I am imprest, It is realy very nice and easy to understand overview. Just missing the first nine numbers from the chapter one (Exploring Sampling Rates)? Thanks Martin, Bratislav
These are the best training videos I have used to date. The pacing of the tutorials is excellent and this is important in helping one to maintain concentration throughout. I also think they are very well structured and flow particularly well. I love the NED interface and the appreciate the way that purchased videos integrate alongside demos of other topics. The way the lessons are broken down in to a playlist form is helpful as you can gauge the length of each lesson and where you are overall. This helps me to manage my time better! I only wish there were more tutorials - More leopard please....oh and NI Kontakt would be popular I feel.
The Logic 101 (version 8) is perfect for the novice and professional alike. It is an incredible overview of the functionality of Logic as well as a good overview of general "sound creation". Highly recommend! Thank you:) JPM
Well I have just started with this Tutorial and so far just like the other 2 I purchased it is very informative and helpful. I'm looking forward to the next chapter. Geoff
Mastering Logic 8 is fantastic. It got me up and running in no time. Whenever i get new media software Macpro videos are figured into the budget.
Great help for Logic. I also love the way it is downloaded and can be updated. great work
The Logic 101: Mastering Logic 8 has been very easy to understand and I think it is priced very well. Tanks! Stefan
This video is great. I enjoy watching these tutorials much better then reading the manual. I will always refrence the manuals but having it told and shown to you together in an easy-to-understand fashion is priceless. In my opinion, it is like going to school... At your own pace. Sure there is no diploma, but look at the thousands you save and you still are taught the skills you are looking to learn! I prefer to spend the thousands I save on gear:) Sometimes you have to watch them a few times for them to truly sink in but it is fun to me. I love learning and knowing that I am moving forward with things. Don't hesitate buying tutorials here... Go ahead and buy a bundle, because once you knock out one, you will be hungry for the next... Trust me!
I have all the Logic tutorials available from MPV. I have just watched the first 100 Logic 8 videos from Martin. I've already learnt a lot of new tricks even though I've been using Logic since early 2003. I guess it's pretty hard to please everyone. Not everyone will be interested in the stuff about sound, frequencies etc. or maybe the Apple loops section. I tend to record a lot of guitar and vocal parts over a basic canvas of drums and synths - yes that's right I'm in my fifties!!! - so I'm really looking forward to all the audio recording stuff that I'm sure will be covered in future videos. Anyway, as always, I have to say that Martin is an excellent teacher who has the knack of involving his listener in whatever he is discussing so once again I say well done!!!
I'm digging the new tutorials. 8 appears easier to deal with than Logic 7 was! My only suggestion would be to have a very simplistic (with Logic? - Ha!) overview that would get a non-technical person started using the program. Say, a tutorial with two audio tracks and two MIDI tracks, where you create the parts for a 16-bar "song" and show how they are mixed. But then, maybe the stlll-missing parts of "Logic 101: Mastering Logic 8" will have something along those lines. Logic is SO deep and complex that it's hard for a newbie to wrap their head around everything that's required. Being able to get up and running quickly would be a huge benefit and inspire more confidence in learning the program. Other than that, I'm very happy with what you ARE showing us. Maybe with continued watching and practice I'll begin to feel more able to use Logic 8. There's just so much to remember that it's all a bit overwhelming. Maybe I'm asking for a "Logic for Idiots" tutorial!
I've really enjoyed the tutorial, there isn't enough basic stuff for real beginners to Logic . I'm a long time user of Digital Performer and am converting to Logic . With all that Logic offers it only logical . I still have to work in DP becuase I know the audio editing features inside and out . When I'm editing I like to at all my track and pick and choose bits of audio and am able to hear bits and pieces , especially when I'm coming a vocal . The sample editor in DP and in Logic doesn't work for me . Iwish yhe was a tutorial just on basic strght ahead stuff . Like editng audio . I could go on but maybe the stuff onlooking for will be in future tutorial . I've decided that at this point I can't use Logic exclusivley yet . I just have to be patient .I'm loving the discussion forums .
They are great I would like to see topics of Add to score for drums or possibly for other Instruments hope this helps you Thanks George
I think the videos are great. They're thorough and well thought out and cover all the pertinent details and features. :D Yay!
Very clear, concise, easy to follow and entertaining too :)
So far it is great, covers with a comfortable paced overview. I am hoping that other additional topics on the Logic 8 are in the works! This is a great introduction but now need to see some hard examples of "work sessions" and things to consider to enhance....kind of real life examples... Thanks .
I would have preferred starting with a complete description of what's new in Logic 8, as well as a break-down of the Arrange window. Then it would have been helpful to go through the recording process for live audio, including some of the more salient aspects of Logic's new editing options. I suspect the lion's share of your client base are pros. I found the tutorial generic.
I just switched from pro tools a month ago, and was needing help learning my way around logic 8 quick and with watching this video I've learned my way around and has recording twenty songs already!!!!! Logic is the best
another great effort so far!!! these dvds really help me get a grip on the massive thing that is logic!! thanks again martin!!
This is a fantastic way to learn Logic Pro 8, sure you can use the bulky manual to learn logic, but there is nothing better than having someone show you hands on, you will learn and understand how and why. I would recommend this to new and old users of logic.
First Class, easy to follow basic tutorial. Looking forward to the upcoming videos, when they are ready for download.
It was good and very informative on the basics of sound and its components. Actually I was kind of expecting the same format as the Logic Pro 7 series. But I guess you covered the basic installment and marco mapping within the free tutorials on the Logic 303 series. So at first it threw me off a bit until I went back and review the 303 series. Overall you guys are the best on Logic!!!!
I thought the tutorials were very useful, delivered in a nice easy going manner. I will use them as a reference when the grey matter fails me. Although a Pro tools user Logic 8 looks like wining me over, such a clever piece of software. Wished I'd paid more attention to the bundles offer as I'm going to buy a couple more modules. Excellent product.
Simply the best just the way they keep it. If your looking to go from knowing nothing to knowing everything that Logic Studio has to provide this is for you. "Best of best beyond all the rest" - DJ St@tic
This is a very well done video and extremely helpful to someone new to Apple and Logic. I haven't made it all the way through yet but what I've watched so far is excellent. I hope Martin will consider adding a section on recording voice and acoustic guitar and then adding internal effects and perhaps drums and instruments samples to that - everything one would need to know to get their material into the program, make it sound the best it can and then mix it. This video is well worth the investment of time and money.
Love what you guys are doing so far. Really enjoy learning at my own pace. It would have been nice to recieve all of "Logic 101 mastering Logic 8" all at once. Would really like to see more on recording. with examples, like getting the best vocal recordings/Guitar etc... Then how to Mix & Master your song. Maybe a class on making music for film & tv in Logic. From start to finished product. Keep up the good work guys!
Hi Martin, Just letting you know that once again you guys rock! I got Logic 8 the week after it came out, and thankfully, because of tiem spent with Logic 7, amd able to follow along pretty well, with little angst. I do look forward to more advanced topics in Logic 8, as well as Soundtrack Pro, and MainStage. I realize that the intial ones assume people have little (or no) knowledge of the program. For those of us who do, it'll be nice to have tutorials that explore the differences in the new program, and ways to encorporate them into one's workflow. In the meantime, hope this finds you doing well. Take care, Pen
Very nicely put together. I'm realizing I'm not using Logic to the fullest. The tutorial on Apple loops is an example of something that could be utilized more (by me). Thanks, so far so good. Can't wait for the other chapters. The new NED is also a great improvement.
breathtaking tutorial! as a complete beginner I really appreciate the simplicity. well done!
Wonderful - I really enjoyed the basics of sound that Martin reviewed in the beginning. Can't wait for more tutorials! I'd love a section on integrating Reason and BFD - that would be icing on the cake! GREAT WORK - you guys rock!
I'm new to Logic, and find that as a beginner, this tutorial package is a good starting point. Not long ago though, I borrowed Martin Sitters book "Logic Pro 7 & Express 7", and I find that some (essential) things get repeated. I'm alright with that, but what I could do without is the thing about the apple loops. Something I would like to know more about, could be mastering and more music theory. -I really enjoyed the three first chapters that I got (lessons 1-41), and I really like all the little tips you get along the way. I must say that the money has been well-spend on this package, since I actually get to see the things in action, compared to reading a book.
So far so good ! While alot of this tutorial so far have been based on things I know very well , sound , frequency and what not , there's always the small tips you pick up on. For example I wasn't fully aware of using soundtrack pro as an external editor like that as with logic 7 I didn't have it so never went looking . Even that has massively effected my work . From the little tips so far , i'd almost say I got my moneys worth in the difference it makes to my workflow . It's very easy to just gloss over it so far and especially the new section on apple loops and say ' I know all that' or ' why the hell would I use apple loops ' and then miss all the little gems that really make all the difference . Good job martin , hope you're enjoying halo 3 !
The Mac Pro Video's are the most succinct, articulate and informative training series for Logic Studio I've ever used. It's little wonder they are held in such high regard amongst the the Logic Studio community.
I'm really enjoying the videos, this is definitely the best way to learn logic. The material is being applied to real world scenarios, which makes it so much easier to learn & remember than just reading about the features. I think learning how to apply the features in creative and useful ways is just as important as learning the features themselves. I was amazed to find that macProVideo.com had content for Logic 8 so quickly after it was released, and with the quality and timeliness it's been a great experience across the board.
I already own 5 (yes five!) MPV Logic courses so when Mastering Logic 8 came out I had to have it. The chapters are well designed and they are even better now they are accessed by the NED. This makes the videos a great reference tool. I hope MPV plan a few more releases, specifically on the Score Editor & Wave Burner
martin, you are simply hte best! now you are really teaching how to produce music with Logic and this software start getting real life in my eyes. thank you so much and i'm so glad that i discovered this resource!!!!! i will rate this 10!
I have to admit I was a little disappointed after it finished downloading and I only had the 3 lessons. I was really hoping to get my staff up to speed with all the new features quick instead of waiting for each weeks update. However, the info was exceptional as in all of your products and in my experience the best training products available for any AV product. I look forward to seeing the rest of the series.
Great tutorial. Logic 8 is so much easier to use but I love it even more after watching the video. Please keep up the good work
Excellent tutorial. The amount of time spent on each topic is perfect, leaving it to the viewer to replay if he needs a bit more time with the concept before moving on to the next one. The discussion is clear and easy to follow, and I like the kind-of-aside tips that are sprinkled throughout the main topic areas.
This is better than any manual you will ever read. It's worth the money because it saves you so much time and gets you up and going.
Watched it, got it, love it! This tutorial is a very good overview of all what's music about. It shows in a practical and easy way how to handle the functions in Logic 8. But not only that! I learn a lot about music itself, and Martin find a nice way to explane this new program and the sound basics in such a matter of course. I'm looking forward to the upcoming chapters, and I would appreciate it to learn more about audio editing and arranging songs. The time where people say that Logic is only good for MIDI is over. It covers all you need to make professional and good music AND soundtracks! Ride on... Frank
Good tutorial for understanding and editing sound in Logic 8. However it is certainly NOT aimed at meeting the first needs of a musician who has purchased L8 in order to record and produce their own songs. For most of the professional musos I know who aren't DAW savy this introductory tutorial would mostly bewilder/bore them and they'd probably react by shutting off the computer and dusting off their tape recorders. Maybe Lesson 12 or 13 would be great, but not as introduction. I understand (and sympathize) with your intentions, but you assume too much prior knowledge. I look forward to next Tutorial.
The quality of this tutorial is just unbelievable. The content in my opinion is absolutely MUST KNOW for every one who makes music or sound. I reside in Los Angeles and because of that I have great access to classes where you can learn Logic. They cost money. Logic 101 cost $899. You get 3 full days of school for that price. Great, but who really remembers 3 full days ... I am only good for 3 hours a day... and then I need my beauty nap. Well you can have this tutorial from MacProVideo for $49.50 - this is really unreal. I consider it for Free. You go to dinner and you’ll spend more. N.E.D. is sensational. I like coming back to the tutorials over and over for very specific things. All I need to do is type a keyword in search and it’s done. It is great to learn from great people. Waiting for more. Kind Regards Bal www.pbmrecords.com
I like the fundamental sound concept approach. This is rudimentary material that many either learned long ago and need reminding, or skipped over entirely. The phasing example was particularly useful (and enlightening.) I still look forward to some "hard-core, button-pushing tutorial" from this course, but it will be nice to have foundation and theory sprinkled throughout. Very inspiring.
In one word: brilliant! Martin's voice keeps your attention from the first to the last minute of tutorial. H knows how to transfer his extremely deep knowledge to the viewer of tutorial in an easy to understand manner no matter how complex topic he explains at the moment could be. I've found this tutorial excellent because it doesn't show you only Logic Studio''s capabilities and how to do tips and tricks but also it shows you easy path of understanding structure of sound and its creation. Great thing for beginners as well as good reminder for the rest of us who forget on such thing due to the daily working routine we usually have. I wish I had such tutorial in the days of my DAW's beginnings 12 years ago. I must say that their customer support is excellent. During my pre-order thing I didn't see the 25% discount and my CC was fcharged for full price. After my email reaction, they refunded me not only 25% but 50% from the price I paid for download version. I have never experienced such thing in my life. Man, macProVideo.com rules!!! :) Greetings from Denmark!!!
absolutely amazing! very informative. good call taking the approach of giving a detailed explanation of sound as a way of teaching logic. I think anyone will benefit from this tutorial, whether complete beginner or seasoned user. Even for basic things like set up its great watching someone go through it as you pick up on a myriad of little things. Its like watching a pro at work. If anyone is even thinking of getting a book instead I'd say spend your money wisely and get this logic 8 video series. I got the book as well, and reading a 10 step list of things in a book is soooo slow compared to watching someone actually do it. my ONLY problem is that I have to wait a week or so for each hours installment as you produce the series. Please try to work faster! :)
I really enjoy this first chapter, thank you a lot ! For a French like me, your voice, your pronunciation, the choice of your words make these lessons very accessible for international people I think. Thank you for taking care of us !
Hey Martin, Firstly, I want to express how much I love using the set up 'N.E.D'. The instantaneous feel of accessibility and control over my tutorials and updates is very inspiring for learning. I genuinely feel like I'm part of an online college. Now to Logic Pro 8 101... Exellent stuff!!! I enjoyed the fresh thorough approach with important audio basics and how it all works necessary, for a solid foundation from which to build on. Hoping somewhere down the line you could cover how to set up a good and efficient signal flow path for mixing a 'generic' pop song in Logic with Auxes, Busses, Sends, Sub Groups, Outputs, etc... Look forward to the next installment.
A terrific introduction to Logic and at the same time, a great way to get an in-depth look at the new features and capabilities of Logic 8. The first tutorial chapter is organized around the two essential building blocks of sound, frequency and amplitude. Logic's Studio's tools for manipulating these elements are introduced in a way that's both informative in its own right and a preparatory step for understanding the overall design and work flow of the application. It will be interesting to follow this series along to see how the instructor builds from his discussion of the raw elements of sound towards assembling and editing musical compositions. Highly recommended.
Thanks for the GREAT tutorials! Love 'em. I just got your logic 8 first round... Curious.. do you have plans to cover capturing and recording live audio? Guitar tracks? I am having issues trying to record a guitar while using a plugin (guitar amp) AND monitoring the audio as I record. Terrible latency. A tutorial on the basics of live audio tracks (guitar, vocals, etc.) would be GREAT!!!!
After previewing the freebies I promptly purchased Tips & Tricks and Mastering Logic 8. I enjoyed the confident, easy, relaxed style the info was imparted in. An absolute pleasure and feast. Of course, one always wants more and any lengthening of the tutorials would be fine by me. Can't wait for Mastering Logic 8.
I viewed the Logic 8 intro tutorials and found them interesting; I pre-ordered this series and am looking forward to it. I also have Logic 7 and The Enviroment series along with ESX24. I find all these extremely helpful to get more from Logic; manuals are good, but, working for a living the Mac Pro videos save lots of time and they squeeze a lot of info in. Glad Mac Pro videos are there!
I didn't recieve my tutorial Logic 8 cause it is in production, but I enjoy Logic 303 TNT. I was hoping something about lead sheet and you answered very well to my wish. I already purchase my update Logic Studio for my Logic Pro 7 ( I will have to wait untill oct. 18 for the shipping and oct. 30 to delivering and I don't know why it take such a long time ) and since I enjoy very much my tutorial Logic 101 Mastering Logic 7 I suppose I will not be decieve. Thank you and excuse my english. Louis.
First sorry for my bad english... I can tell that I kwonw a lot of training (also in french they start to be good) by DVD. Really I appreciate MacProVideo, I put (the quality of image, clearly to understand even me I'm not good in english), in second position for all training that I use!
Im waiting for the next one,wow logic 8 is so cool to use, keep up the good work
For me it is always an inspiration to see what is posible with an application as complex as this. good work.
Hey Martin, you guys are such a great team! I was on a vacation and find out about Logic Studio from your e-mail, after seeing the preview videos, two things pops to mind, Pre-order the tutorial on the spot & Buy Logic Studio. Your tutorials are allways on my top list of recommendations to other mates, as the best I've seen so far. Plus, your feedback on all my questions, problems and wishes, could only be described in one word: Awesome! Thanks for the great team work you guys put in everything you making and keep surprising me like you do! Peace, Jorge
...nice introduction/first look, I'm looking forward for in depth tips and tricks, especially contrating on the new features/workflow from Logic 8...
only watched the freebie so far on the intro to logic 8. thought it was up to your usual high standards. Am really looking forward to the indepth tutorials
As usual you guys are up to the task. Can't say enough about how useful and informative your tutorials are. Thanks for your help in my quest for a better understanding of Logic. Dan
I posted a message on your forum to say how much I value the Logic tutorials which I would not be without. The speed with which you provided the first look at LogicStudio was most impressive. The tutorials are well produced, extremely informative and well worth the investment. Keep them coming.
