Olaf Basowski is jovial instructor who makes it easy to follow a workflow. Enjoy this tutorial! I'm working through it for a 2nd time to internalize the finer details in electronic music production.
Olav! You are the best speaker!!! Do not want to try his hand at politics?)) People will follow you ) From Moscow with RESPECT!
For starters, the fact that one of the elite names in electronic music is offering his wealth of knowledge to us "superstar" bedroom producers is worth the price of admission. Olav guided me through fine tuning my Logic skills and now that I've partially jumped ship to Ableton, I sought out his knowledge once again–and was not disappointed. Whether your aim is to create EDM or not, Olav cuts right to the chase. Each video is paced perfectly and Olav's approach is informative as well as entertaining. There are some MacProVideo.com videos that feature voiceovers from instructors (who shall remain nameless) that border on dull and boring. Then there are other videos that just seem to go on forever...Olav's a natural teacher and I will continue to pick up each of his courses. He goes over the reasoning behind his order of operations, the usage of certain plugs, shortcuts (including keyboard shortcuts) and all sorts of tidbits that have really propelled my journey into the endless rabbit hole that is Ableton. If you're new to the program or are simply looking to fine-tune your skills, look no further than Olav "Effing" Basoski.
Really great video. But I think it's more of a learning ableton live while making a "dance tune". It doesn't go into the specifics about electro music. Still a great video and you learn a lot :)
I'm enjoying this very much. While I'm not into this style of EDM, it still sets a very strong foundation for all 4/4-based electronic music; and you can easily see how your genre's needs will be tweakable/adjustable via Live's controls and effects. Very easy to understand and follow along. The only clip I find curious is the side-chaining tutorial. There is an even better, faster way to do this in Live (at least from v.7+) But it's another example of how there's always more than one way to achieve a desired result in electronic music. :) Highly recommend this to either total newbies to production or if you're a DJ and have a basic understanding of DAWs and sequencing. I've learned more from this series of tutorials over the last week than I've learned over the last few months of self-study. His workflows really help you navigate and set up groups, racks, and effects chains; I would recommend this entire course just because of this section. :) Very enjoyable and glad I've gone through it. I should also add that I'm watching it in conjunction with the Live 8 101 series - both have TNT's that the other doesn't, so they work well together as you study. Peace, Jim
Really liked it, listened to all of it and learned a lot. I also like Olav and like to listen to him. I will probably go through it again. But it could have used some editing. He paused to think of things, made mistakes and corrected them and sometime seemed to think up things on the fly. All of that is OK but it seems it wouldn't be much of a problem to edit it out.
Having quite a few of MacPro video tutorials,I have heard of Olav's new tutorial and without hesitation,I bought it. Although my stuff tend to be ambient, I could use some of these techniques,to create, some Ambient I.D.M .This tutorial is a great insight to see how a track is made from the ground up.Lots of things I could use in my own works. Olav is a great teacher, very concise, explaining things, every step of the way. As newcomer to Ableton, its great to see,how to put sounds together,to form a track or a basis of a track. I can't wait to dig in,and try out some things myself,ha,ha
This is what I needed to kick off my producing career. It's incredible how Olav shows you the "real world" of producing in this easy to understand tutorial. I cannot wait to see more of his tutorials! Thanks Olav!!!
Great i have some 20 + tutorials now and they are all great thats why i continue to purchase them! Keep up the good work. And Olav what about a tutorial on using samplers in dance music not for making instruments as all other tutorials seem to cover but cutting, stretching, reversing, vocals and looping samples finding loop points? you now where im coming from! Kevin
First class tutorials, both content & delivery were excellent. I’m looking forward to watching the Ableton Sound design tutorials. :]
This was a great Tutorial. Olav has a fun, relaxed yet very informative way of delivering his tutorial. He takes you through step by step and explains things clearly so you never get left behind. He shows you the potential of live and gives you many tips on how to use live as a creative tool. Hopefully he will make another tutorial on how to finsh off a track with mastering. I recommend this tutorial to anyone considering learning how to write electronic music (or any genre) with Ableton Live. Cheers Olav!!
Normally watching Olav on Logic, this is just as excellent. An awesome teaching style that's easy on the eye and ear and reinforces the sky's the limit. Love it.
If you use ableton to make electronic music but feel like you're struggling a bit to get your tracks to have that pro sound, this video might be the one that'll get you there.
Olav builds a dance track from scratch, revealing ways to construct drum kits and sounds, processing, mixing and jamming the track into a final arrangement. All this is well paced with clear instructions blended with a sense of humour and ease. The tutorial is enjoyable, informative and you learn hints and tips at a pace that surprises you when you think about it! Well done Olav! I highly recommend this tutorial and it's great value!
One more big fan of Olav. I could be spending $1000 for 12 weeks of Ableton online at Berklee... or $25 for my half-priced download version of Olav's videos. I copy his process very closely and then I go back and do it my own way. This video is so clear... it's easy to follow the step by step process. And Olav's voice is enjoyable to listen to. thanks for a great site MPV.... money well spent.
Olav rocks Ableton Live!!! If you want to have fun and learn at the same time you need this! Really happy with this Tutorial!
Brilliant coaching from Olav!! I just switched from Logic and Ableton Live totally rocks.
This course is great! The teacher is very easy on the ears... he has a confident easy tone about him that for me, is conducive to learning cause I'm always freaking out the difficulty I have building songs. He brings you right along, step-by-step through what he's doing, explaining things as he goes in a simple, easy to understand kind of way. I already finished the Ableton Live 8 101 course and I think this is a good review of what was covered there and uses that knowledge as a springboard to create a song, expanding on those fundamentals. My only critique/future request is that I would like to see a course that goes a bit deeper into music theory using Live , concentrating on why songs are built the way they are built, and what makes them sound good.
AMAZING! Olav is seriously fantastic. Great teacher, a pleasure to listen to. The pace is nice...seriously one of the best I've seen.
I really enjoyed the Making Electronic Dance Music with Olav Basoski, but i knew a lot about what he was doing in the videos. Although i did pick up some cool new tips and it was very good to get inside the mind of a top class producer, but i was wonder if there will be more very advanced videos coming out from Olav? I think a next level or more advanced level would be a great follow up to progress the track in to something that is dance floor credible. Keep up the great tutorials. :)
I'm a huge fan of Olav, I've purchased the Logic tutorials that he made and learnt so much so quickly I surprised myself - this Ableton 8 tutorial is the natural progression for me, Olav is even better in this tutorial, the sound is clearer and the production is fast paced yet well explained, witty and easy to understand and i've learnt so much from the absolute basics to the more advanced elements of production - Again!! If like me your sick of reading fat manuals and forgetting the shortcuts and techniques, then this is money well spent, the time simply flies by.
If you want to really learn electronic dance music, get this tutorial! He is the king in this genre, it's only right you get this. I respect Macprovideo.com for only choosing professionals, not just someone who will work for less.
