MPV trainer Nigel Broad is back with another great electronic dance music exploration, Dubstep Essentials . Join Nigel in this 25-video collection as he takes you under his wing and creates a full-blown Dubstep track from Drum and Bass to final mix…
Dubstep is an exciting style of music that lends itself to a lot of creativity and the powerful use of plugins and virtual instruments of all kinds. Nigel Broad, a chart-topping dance producer, knows a thing or two about Dubstep and in this Logic tutorial he creates a full-blown Dubstep track, starting with the drum programming and evolving all the way through the final mix.
This 25-video class starts off with Logic’s mighty Ultrabeat drum machine, where you’ll learn to set up, program and tweak a killer Dubstep drum beat. Nigel is the ultimate Ultrabeat and Logic master and shares his hit-making tips throughout this tutorial.
What’s a Dubstep track without a Wobble bass? Using the ES 2, Massive and RAZOR, Nigel shows you how to create a composite bass line that will blow you away! Next he conjures up some cool pads, leads and SFX that really make the track shine. Finally, Nigel wraps it up by talking about song structure before he mixes and masters his custom track.

this course i know will help me and it has worked very well! please try it if your intrested in dubstep!
I like heavy and broken dubstep it sounds very cool.I would like to find out how to make that type of dubstep.I hope that this web site will help me do that.
This tutorial is FANTASTIC! Those working in Logic 9 will love the quick practical nature of this tutorial - that will have them up and running (or dubbing!) in no time!!! Highly recommended for newbs
good learning received. thanks much. will introduce this to my workflow to create tracks with feel n hints of dubstep as this is not my dominant genre of choice. but some really good learning received
Loved it, excellent narration and clear instructions. Detailed descriptions and very useful hints on reducing the risk of a distorted end track.
Some useful info in this course. I learned a bit more about how to use the EXS24. Only drawback is that I don't own Massive or Omnisphere so the downloaded session is missing those parts :(
Too good. So much to learn. The pleasure of this course was time saved with trial error when attempting on your own. Dub step is intelligent noise, only ones creativity makes a nice tune nicer
Great dub-step tutorial. This gave me great inspiration and helped me understand how to use the tools I have. Also, I have learned how about sound design with the EXS24 to create me own wobble bass!
The Dubstep Essentials is absolutely fantastic. The secrets and inner workings of the Dubstep gurus were laid out with crystal clear details. It's utterly amazing how much I've learnt from here. 5+x*z
My favorite dubstep tutorial so far. Very in depth of all the essentials of dubstep production.
Enjoyed this course a lot. I was able to start from scratch and create an entire dub step song. Now to do this on my own. Great stuff macprovideo
Watched this tutorial before the new Live Dubstep one came out, anyway you can't easily reproduce everything you see in this tutorial in another DAW. For those already producing dubstep, you might just get a few tricks and tips, but I personally dable in other styles, and this was very usefull in understanding the fundamental elements to dubstep so I really enjoyed this tut !
Found out some pretty cool little tips and tricks, worth checking out.
Pretty basic concepts here. Good examples. If you're following from another DAW, you'll need to be fluent with that first. You won't be able to change parameters in the same way as NI's plug-ins.
Pretty informative course, even if you don't like Dubstep. Nigel definitely knows what he's doing and offers up a ton of real world Logic and mixing tips throughout.
Excellent stuff! I found this to be a mine of useful information. Nicely paced, lots of practical tips and no time wasted.
Nigel's style takes the attitude out of dub step to focus on the goal of making music. There are more than a few high level tips that can be applied to aspects of producing across genre boundaries.
I watched two videos that were free on the Internet and immediately paid a subscription. I'm so glad I did. In just two days I was on my way to writing dubstep. Amazing!
AWESOME tutorial. So thorough, organized, and professional. Nigel is a great teacher, and I can't recommend this highly enough.
some people paying hundreds euros for internet DUB STEP courses........ poor guys , they dont know about askvideo tutorials. In that tutorial video you can learn a lot about how to working freely in DubStep style of music. Very clear explaining of every "dub"step of creating song from scratch to finish. Great tutorial, thanks a lot, was big pleasure watching.
Great videos . Really clear and explained very well.
Excellent! Well paced, and never gets boring. Makes great use of Logic's sampler and other AU's. Even touches on NI's synths. The track itself is good, too!
Great tutorial video on dubstep. He really breaks down how to create each element in a quick and easy to understand manner.
Shortish, but thorough throughout. Well taught and gives a wide knowledge in dubstep production!
This tutorial video was one of the best I've ever used! It was well organized and explained. There were parts where some things were only touched upon but any single tutorial can't cover ever possible interest of the viewer. The meat of dubstep production was covered which would give anyone following along a great framework for there own experimentation and creativity. Highly recommend for anyone looking to enter the dubstep world.
Brilliant! Great ideas and great song! I love what you did with those female vocals! Great stuff!
Found out so many new things, really impressed how easy can be done, of course if one knows the drill :) Keep on good work.
Amazing. One of the best macprovideo music tutorials so far (IMHO). At least when you start playing with Dubstep genre: it's fast, clear and sharp on both explaining the genre and the tools and technics used. So straightforward. Bravo, and thank you Nigel!
A fantastic tutorial. This video shows all essential things one needs to know about producing Dubstep. It also contains a huge amount of additional information regarding the production process of a song. Nigel, who especially did create a song for this tutorial, brings in his professional knowledge and experiences. I strongly recommend this tutorial for everyone who is really interested in to learn how to produce professional Dubstep and electronic music songs. Thanks Nigel for the great work!
One thing I wish he covered more was the changes he made to the beat to match the different sections of the song. (He kind of did that in the background and it REALLY makes a difference to the song)
Great video. Takes you quickly through the production of the song and focuses on the unique characteristics of Dubstep production and sound. Great for beginners or not. Even if you don't know anything about Logic or production, Nigel takes you step by step through song creation using Logic's default instruments, sound design, short cuts and tricks to improve workflow and inspiration. Some things I wish they would spend more time on is melody/bass and riff creation. More practical music theory stuff. But as he says in the video, Dubstep does not really follow those rules. I highly recommend this video and for the price, you can't beat it!
Fantastic! I finally learned how to get that wobble bass sound and learned a bunch on how to tweak it. I'm off and running. The EXS24 glitch tutorial was an added bonus along with the other nice tips and tricks in this series. Thanks!
Fantastic! A great opportunity to see a pro at work. Thanks.
Excellent tutorial! I really enjoyed watching it and I learnt a lot of tips! Thank's for the great job!
Really really helpful tutorial! Thanks! It covers everything essential to make dubstep!
Awesome clearly made tutorial on subject ,but bit disappointed at the end with mixing section // i wish it would be more deeper with some trick and tips (my personal opinion)// but that not takes any point from whole set. Would love to see more tutorials on techniques and sound design ,mixing perhaps in deep detail. Thanks guys.
This video was exactly what I was looking for , it helped me figure out how to do bass line patterns as well as EQing everything. It was also refreshing to see almost everything he did was with plug ins already in Logic . I have bought many videos from this site and I have never been disappointed. GREAT WORK LIKE ALWAYS !!!!
my first approach to dubstep is this tutorial and i think is really well done!
Nigel Broad provides a clear and concise step-by-step tutorial on the fundamentals of creating a basic dubstep track. His instructions are very clear and not overly filled with technical jargon as other instructors have on macpro video. He is very easy to listen to which is also a big plus when sitting for an hour listening to someone talk. I highly recommend, and hope he provides more videos in the future.
Nigel presents this definitive guide to dub step in a clear and entertaining manner. There is more information in this one tutorial than in a Dozen music magazine Dub-Step specials. I hope to see other genres presented like this soon. Well done
I found this Tutorial really good. It is in fact the first Tutorial which i watched from the beginning to the end without getting bored or skipping through the videos. The Name of the Tutorial is very well chosen because it really covers the Essentials, i would have loved to see more about the mixing progress i have to say but perhaps this will be shown in an advanced tutorial.
Dubstep Essentials is a great tutorial, I was really impressed.
Another great tutorial by Nigel Broad. A good tutorial with just the right video length. Thanks!
