Flex Time Editing is one of the most exciting and anticipated features of Logic Pro 9. Star macProVideo.com trainer Steve H. shows you how it works!
Steve H and Igor are at it again: Flex Editing! Logic Pro’s new Flex Editing capabilities bring the world of “elastic audio” to the world’s most powerful DAW. In this entertaining and informative tutorial Steve H and his faithful assistant take you on a flex editing adventure.
Steve shows you the flex tools, defines the parameters and then, with tracks provided by some of his musician friends, he unleashes the power and creativity of flexible audio as he demonstrates the astounding capabilities of Flex Editing in Logic Pro.
You’ll learn how to non-destructively time-stretch and compress audio. You’ll master one-click quantizing of multi-track drums. You’ll see the new snap-to-transient features where audio transients on one track get aligned to transients on another.
And that’s not all: true to Steve H’s adventurous self, he’ll show you how to create beautifully lush, 10-minute soundscapes from a cute little 10-second Apple Loop. Oh, and by the way, be sure not to miss his assistant Igor going “flex-wild” on an awesome piano track performed by the great Jordan Rudess, keyboardist extraordinaire of the band Dream Theater!
So if you like Steve H’s tutorials, and if you’re ready to “stretch” your imagination this tutorial is for you.

Awesome in every way possible. I feel like I am in tune with flex editing as well as creating with flex editing
Amazing course. There's a lot more to flex control than I first realised and although this tutorial will appeal more to live music lovers I found many of the tricks work just as well with any material
While I'm still old school cut and fade type editing...flex editing is something I am will to practice thanks to the examples and the videos in this course.
The Flex Time Editing course is great in explaining the ins and outs of each flex time feature. Such a powerful tool in Logic with a powerful course to follow it!
Another great Logic 9 tutorial! Had a lot of favorites in this one! It definitely shows how Logic's flex mode can compete against Pro Tools Beat Detective and in some applications is even more useful.
A complex tool made clear and simple in a step-by-step process and really well structured to allow me to take it in. Thanks! Some of the jokes are way too cheesy though!
Steve H. is one cooool guy! You can tell that he always has fun making videos and it rubs off on everyone who watches them!! Good gig MacPro!!!
Flex editing really sets Logic Pro apart from the other DAWs out there. It's simply amazing to stretch or compress an audio sample in so many ways and still have it sound so natural. Steve H rocks!
When I saw a whole course dedicated to the Flex tool, I didn't know what to expect. All I can say is, it was well worth it. It's incredible what can be achieved with Flex Time in Logic. #topnotch.....
Flex Time Editing is a function in Logic that allows you to sync up, Quantize, rythymic audio parts like guitars or banjos to the timing grid, and also to tighten up solo or harmony vocals and lead parts. Steve H. and his assistant Igor explain the Flex Time in 30 video presentations and they do a very good job. If you are like me, you will need to follow along slowly with your own recording project. I think I missed a couple of important points, like "Phase Locked Flexing..." and "Q-References" in videos 19 and 21, so need to go back. Another five star tutorial in my opinion. thank-you so much Igor and Steve H.!
I just bought the Logic 104 tutorial which is my 3rd tutorial by Steve and am astonished how fast I am learning these things in Logic because of the way he presents it. I hope he will keep on creating his tutorials!
Really did an excellent job of giving an overview of Flex Editing. Showed some of the awesome power in that tool.
This course meets the typically excellent standards of Steve H. He demonstrates complex techniques with flair and humour and I enjoyed this potentially difficult subject much more than I thought.
Steve H... you da man!! Really great course. Thanks for your work :-)
Congratulations to Steve Horelick for the excellent Tutorial. Warm Regards to Igor.
Loved this tutorial. way above the help I got one on one at the apple store. Those guys are great but didn't know the detail on flex editing. This has been a breath of fresh air and is really helping get going on remixes of variable timed music. Fab.
Steve u r the best:)
Steve is a master on Logic also he is a great tutor. In this video he shows you stuff that if you try to do this true pdf manuals it takes you ages and most probable you will give up reading. Must have videos to new Logic users and useful for those that know there way around Try it you wont be disappointed
Wonderful tutorial. Information flow is well paced and soundly structured. I am a big fan of having a final couple of "creative" lessons at the end to show how the tools can be applied in real world projects.
What more can I say but another great tutorial from Steve H. Bryan McClain
This is my second Steve H tutorial. What a great teacher and a great series. These are fun to watch. As usual, well done Steve!
Very well done and informative. Steve H. is great! RAM
A very good tutorial on Flex. Everything is explained in a very good pace, and very easy to understand. As always Steve H. proves that hes one of the best teachers... Thanks!
Very useful. Clear, concise explanations of the key concepts.
This is just a great video. I realized that 3 hours ago before I watched the entire thing, I had very little understanding of flex mode. I especially like the way Steve finishes the video out with some cool experimentation.
I thought the tutorials were very well thought out, simplified enough that it was a cinch learning such a technical marvel as Flex Time Editing!!! Keep feeding us such Logic(al) knowledge!!
Yup, tip-top tutorial. Thanks, Steve & Igor
Once again, Steve H. spreads light on a complex topic. Well-organized, easy to understand, and fun! Highly recommended for a thorough understanding of Flex Time Editing. You'll be flexing time in no time.
As always a very detailed look into the subject. Thanks Steve!
Steve H. always present us with great tutorials full of details and on top he even manage to give us some very useful tips on sound design! I knew that L9 could quantize audio, after watching this from top to bottom, I'm blown away! I'm very impressed, know we have all the tools we need! Jorge Costa
Steve can be absolutely hilarious, and the way he teaches is pleasant and composed, that sometimes you forget you're learning sophisticated Logic technique. This is a fantastic tutorial.
I'm convinced that I need to upgrade logic just by looking at the preview of this tutorial:)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Flex editing is possibly the coolest thing! Also, with Steve H. taking the monotony out of tutorials (like always), you really learn something.
Clear, step by step tutorial. Excellent structure. Teaches you how to do things with flex, and also what you are actually doing with the audio.
I'm eagerly awaiting my new 27 inch i5 iMac and looking forward to upgrading to Logic 9. My computer hasn't arrived yet, we in New Zealand are, like so many others, having to wait.... and wait! But with the excitement of using Logic 9 somewhere around the corner I decided to purchase this tutorial in anticipation of that wonderful day when i can crank up the new Logic on the new iMac! Like so many of Steve H's videos, this one displays humor and clarity as Steve describes the basic uses for flex editing in a way that makes it easily graspable to the novice user of this particular plug in. Timing has always been an issue for me when recording my parts and this new addition to Logic will be invaluable to me and will allow me to create music more akin to what I hear in my head. Thanks to Steve's depth tuition I'll be able to use the flex tools more quickly than just trying to do it on my own. That's what's so great about these tutorials, being sight impaired makes it difficult to work in a "classroom" environment but using these tutorials makes it so much easier to learn new things. Thanks Steve for this, I'll be watching it over and over again when I get my new iMac and start working on my next album project. Till next time....
As usual, a fantastic in depth tutorial that got me up to speed with flex time really quickly. I couldn't recommend macprovideo highly enough.
Excellent fast track for a new Logic Pro feature. Brian Mesler
hi guys, even though yoga is my main profession,i was not so flexible when it came to recording audio, but this tutorial has given me a good foundation with timings and quantization in audio, igors assistant steve.h..:)) is the best logic teacher i've come across till now what more can i say with u guys around i hope to get better over the years.just a question''have yr'll thought of training in arrangements''?? regards joey
Another fantastic tutorial by Steve H. I took the time to read through and try out the examples in the Apple documentation for Logic 9 that's now only available via the web (doh! Apple). I thought, well, what can Steve H teach me now? Answer: he just goes to depths I wouldn't dream of and his experience is invaluable. Fantastic!
The great thing about Logic is that it caters for those starting out on music production right up to the most sophisticated technicians at the highest end of the industry - like Steve H. Each tutorial in the Logic series provides highly detailed elements of the, in my view, the very best of DAWs. The real beauty is that you can be as simple or as sophisticated as you wish. I would say that Flex Editing is at the higher end of the scale but if you wish to add this aspect of music production to your list of skills then Steve H does his usual professional job of explaining complex aspects of Logic in his customary straightforward and often entertaining manner.
Excellent tutorial as always...Best way to learn!
The new techniques used with flex-time editing are very clearly and logically explained. With all the MacPro videos I use two screens, one with the tutorial and the other with an open work file. The short simple descriptions in each tutorial make it possible quickly to become familiar with new and/or updated function without having to put time aside to study them.
I am a big fan of Steve H. My two favourite things are his appalling humour and his genuine and infectious enthusiasm. Always fun
hi as usual the flex time tutorial is a must for anyone using logic very clear and to the point touching on all aspects of this new feature which would take the average user a long time to figure out for themselves ie time wasted when youre trying to get on with your recording all the best paul
Love Steve...at first I was line wtf, but i am not sure i could let anyone else teach me. he knows his ish too!
Great technical tutorial... as handy as it is to know how to sort out out those timing issues I especially enjoyed the experimental section at the end.
This is the best way to get going with Flex editing. Steve is clear, accurate and concise. I highly recommend this for anyone at any level with Logic.
A thorough exploration into all that is Flex Editing. Concise and to the point!
Great. The tutorial and the new Flex functionality of Logic. Congratulations Steve and MPV for one more great tutorial.
I think Steve has done a terrific job on this tutorial. It is clear, concise, and has his trademark sense of humor to keep it from getting too heavy. Highly recommended. Composer, Apple Logic Certified Trainer, Level 2 Author of "Going Pro With Logic Pro 8"
Excellent tutorial, really helped explain this awesome new feature.
Steve H. once again has proven his knowledge, great insight, helpful guidance, and lets not forget his humour with his strange assistant Igor! Thank you Steve, for making this subject clear, concise and fun at the same time. I do like the tips on the creative process as well. Scott
An awesome tutorial on an amazing new feature!!! Flex Editing is a very powerful tool for any Logic Producer.
