Introduced in Logic 7 and banging in Logic Pro X, Ultrabeat is Logic's classic drum machine. Steve H. shows you how to use Ultrabeat as a synth, sampler, and step-sequencer combined!
Steve H. is at it again with this power-house tutorial showing you how to use Ultrabeat.
The tutorial starts with a detailed exploration of Ultrabeat's interface. You'll learn how to trace the signal path from start to finish through the instrument - along the way you'll learn how Ultrabeat's switches and buttons (including hidden switches) function to control it's sound.
You'll move on to a detailed exploration of oscillators as you discover how to synthesis drum sounds from the ground-up in Ultrabeat. Why use presets ... make your own unique drum sounds by watching these videos!
Next you'll explore filters, envelopes & modulators as you shape your oscillators to create your sound.
The second half of the tutorial moves into the groove. In this section you'll learn how to create drum patters using Ultrabeat's built-in step sequencer. By the end of the video, you'll be ready to put your vintage 909 (and your favorite drummer) in the closet - Ultrabeat has the sounds and versatility you're after!

Excellent course by Steve Horelick demonstrating the power and versatility of Logic Pro's mighty Ultrabeat Drum Synth! This course is still relevant for Logic Pro X users as Ultrabeat does not appear to have changed much since version 8. All I can say is try not to be put off by Ultrabeat's convoluted and arguably ugly interface, after you have watched these tutorials you will know Ultrabeat's GUI and extensive feature set like the back of your hand.
Steve Horelick is tops in this tutorial, seeing his name as trainer is my 1st indicator that it's going to be a must watch. So much info, must watch this again.
Everything you need to know to make it go. I went through this a s arefresher course on how it works and I have found much that I had forgotten. Its a greeat series worth watching again and again.
Very very good. It's true what he says; he leaves no stone unturned! These tutorials have turned what was originally to me an intimidating soft synth, into an absolute weapon! Ultrabeat UNLEASHED indeed!
I had some knowledge of Ultrabeat from Logic 101 tutorial, but Steve's Ultrabeat course goes through all the UB aspects and shows how to efficiently use the tool to build up interesting drum sequences
It's really easy to get confused with all the buttons/menus on the Ultrabeat. This tutorial helped me demystify all of them! I especially enjoyed the section on vias. Been wondering what those do.
The title "Ultrabeat Unleashed" could not have been better put. The course completely demystifies Ultrabeat and highlights how powerful a plug-in it is. And also, that it is master-able. 10**********s
I just started the Ultrabeat Unleashed course & it's already simplified what seemed like a very complex piece of software. Insights in the geography, signal flow and buttons has been extremely helpful
I can't say enough good things about this course!! Always a pleasure to learn from such a dynamic instructor! Steve H. tutorials along with M. Sitters should all have 6 stars!!! Premier Instruction
"...no longer contemplating buying any 3rd party drum machine software.." This line from another review here is also how I feel. I just want UB for the step-sequencer, or drum-machine, part of it, not so interested in the Synthesizer part (which is why Ultrabeat looks so damn scary at the front door - all that Synth stuff!). Steve H. shows me how to make a new sound and/ or beat, change it around and bring it into the Logic arrange area as a region. I will have to watch it at least once more to get everything I can get from this video set. That will be easy enough as Steve is clear without being heavy, and the videos are well organized. Another 5-star course in my opinion. Thank-you, Steve!
this was great, so great i am going to start again from the beginning
I feel like an Ultrabeat UltraUser. This was as thorough an instruction as you can expect and provided an amazing base of knowledge that can be applied to many other areas.
I have not come accross a tutorial on this site that I have not learnt from Steve H loses me in places sometimes I just cant keep up and I would like to know step by step how he makes his sounds but overall I love this tutorial is brilliant and I am learning worth every penny thanks
I am soooo sorry that I didn't find this course earlier :) Really demystifying. Thanks!
As usual a great tutorial. Ultrabeat is one of the best drum synths with a complex interface. This tutorial breaks it down and once you understand the signal flow and how it works you begin to see all the possibilities.
Amazing Video tutorial, everything I needed to know about ultrabeat was answered for me. Thanks.
Another of Steve's great tutorials, watched it start to finish, no longer contemplating buying any 3rd party drum machine software, Ultrabeat is amazing. Bit of an abrupt ending though Steve...?
Steve this is an excellent video, it reveals the true possibilities of Ultrabeat, while watching the video I got so many new ideas of what to do and how to work with Ultrabeat... Christian
Thank U Steve H. Brilliant.
In the past I haven't even bothered with UltraBeat. It seemed all too hard to even spend my time trying to work it out, so I rather used external plugins. The fact that there is so many good sounds within UltraBeat, caused me to purchase the tutorial. What seemed "too hard-basket", has now given me a whole lot more to work with. All because these tutorials have become available. Who wants to read a book or do a 12 week course on how to use a plugin? Just show me a tutorial & I'm happy - Thanks!
Great tutorial.Highly recommend
Hi, I just want to thanh and congratulate Steve H. for his very clear ans intersting tutorials. I would add that, as a foreigner listener, Steve is very easy to understand which is quiete essential, as long as you have no french subtitles. Best regards from Dany
clear and straight to the point...essential if you want to know how to work this beast.
Thank you so much, Steve H. for presenting this awesome tutorial on this awesome software instrument. Ultrabeat is extremely powerful. It's seeming complexity is very clearly explained so that even a novice like myself can become a master beatmaker just by watching this.
This UltraBeat tutorial is Bananas!!! Very informative and clearly communicated. This tutorial helps you understand how to maximize UltraBeat in a way that makes third party drum plugins a non-necesity. I have not even completed the video and have learned so much that I know I will be feasting off this tutorial for quite sometime in order to get a handle on all the info conveyed.
Great tutorial. It opened my eyes to how useful, deep and powerful Ultrabeat is. Highly recommended.
This program should be called "Ultrabeast" LOL, and after watching this video you can call me the Beast Master! I recommend!
I AM NOW A ULTRABEAT MASTER! yeah sick tutorial well worth the money!
Very good Ultrabeat video..highly recommend
