Timing Is Everything! In this amazing tutorial Tom Rice shows you the secret to making your tracks “dead-on-the-beat” accurate with absolutely zero latency!
Have you ever listened to one of those amazing tracks where every instrument seems to really lock into the groove? It’s truly audio magic when tracks are really tight! In this tutorial, Logic latency guru Tom Rice shows you how your tracks can achieve that incredibly awesome, locked-in sound!
You see, there’s a lot more to perfect timing than simply hitting the “Q” button to quantize everything. That’s because inherent in every native Logic Studio system there are going to be all kinds of latencies in the analog and digital domains:
• Roundtrip latency
• Recording delay latency
• Midi IO latency
• External MIDI hardware latency
• External MIDI software latency ... and more!
What most producers don’t know is that Logic has all the built in tools you’ll ever need to compensate for all these latencies so you can be assured that your recordings are metronomically bulletproof!
In this step-by-step masterpiece you will become the master of all Logic’s latency combating settings and preferences. You'll learn how to calculate and compensate for the built-in latency inherent in every audio interface. You’ll see how to test for and eliminate the timing mysteries of external and internal MIDI instruments to make sure that they “sound” exactly on-the-grid, every time!
Bonus: Tom has created custom Logic project files that are designed to help you on your zero latency crusade! To download these files, Login to your macProVideo.com account above, and the download links will appear at the top of this page.

This is awesome. Just the kind of specific in-depth knowledge I needed to optimise my workflow.
The best tutorial if you need help setting up your rig. Very easy to follow instruction from Tom Rice. This should be at the top of your list if you a new to logic
Really digs deep into managing latency in all aspects of Logic. Very useful for anyone recording live MIDI/audio/automation and/or using high latency plug-ins.
An absolutely fascinating course. I've learned so so much about latency that I didn't even know existed. This is a truly necessary and requisite course for anyone hoping to be a great music producer.
This man has a gift for teaching. His ability to clearly explain such an abstract concept is incredible. As a subscriber I hope to see more tutorials by Tom. This is a perfect example of effective online teaching. I am amazed at how well paced and well worded his sentences are. I didn't even realize it, but I was on the edge of my seat listening intently to this guy explain how a MIDI signal works (on a binary level). A++
If you are an instrumentalist who is asked to do a session in a MIDI based project studio this is inavaluable information to get your head around. You may have great meter and be able to nail it to a click, but if your host engineer/producer isn't used to recording "from the analogue domain" and doesn't understand the latency issues, well than you don't have much of a chance! Tom is a great "explainer". Top marks
Tom has done an excellent job with this video, this is one of the best tutorials I've ever seen. I really like the sort of tutorials where I come away feeling like I've learnt something which is not only new to me but of great future value too. I never imagined that 6 hours of latency info would be so interesting & educational. I've had hardware synths longer than I've had computers & I've never had them sounding as tight as I do now, thanks Tom & MPV - this one is an all time great.
Absolutely essential stuff for anybody using Logic or other DAW.
I have a very big studio with a lot of vintage synths,fx,drummachines and compressors all connected via a big recording desk and a MacPro with Logic... I was struggling to get all the midi and audio lined-up due to inherent latency. Well Tom Rice is a genius! I followed the tutorial step-by-step and did all the latency tests... I now have all my midi gear in PERFECT sync,I didn't think this was possible. Thanks again Tom,your tutorial is worth every penny!
The tutorial is one of the best presented & detailed I have ever seen. The subject of Latency is usually glossed over however now I can use my system with great confidence. Great value for money. Well done
5 stars are not enough for this tutorial. This is an essential watch for every producer, but a must for everyone who have hardware synths in his studio and wants to integrate them in Logic without issues. Highly recommended!
A very impressive tutorial which gives a deep understanding of latency problems within Logic and the ways to solve it. Clearly explained and well illustrated. Thank U Mr Tom Rice
I can't believe I've gone this long with out knowing about this stuff. I always thought the system overloads were due to the grade of my computer, but after upgrading I was still getting them. Not to mention I thought my rhythm had gone down the tubes when it was actually the latency introduced in the recordings.. at least that's what I tell myself now... This tutorial literally is a must have.
I've bought the Logic's Latency toolbox and I really enjoyed it ! This is THE tutorial you must SEE. My latency problems while recording are gone now :-) Thanx MACPROViDEO !!! Grtz, Dieter aka Earthphunk aka DEETR
Just about every review has praised this tutorial in the highest terms. The praise is richly deserved. Latency is a complex topic and Tom's presentation is clear and logical, aided by some simple but effective graphics. The tutorial contains sufficient information together with some tricks and workarounds to enable just about anyone who uses Logic as their DAW to be able to troubleshoot problems in their own system.
A must have tutorial for any Logic users. One of the very first issues beginners deal with that don't know how to fix the problem,Buy this tutorial and it can save you alot of headaches, great job Tom Bryan McClain
Logic's Latency Toolbox / Tom Rice It's so very helpful to have this information at my fingertips . We'd all rather make music then try and understand the inner working's of latency until you realize your missing every beat with great consistency .....Not anymore Thank You Tom
I thought I understood latency, having read various articles over the years, however I never felt comfortable setting up my DAW. I feel a lot better now and have this video as a reference. MACPRO stuff is my first port of call for learning on music production. Keep up the good work. Regards David
In general I think theres to little hands on information and to much general go through the subject, but that can be said for the most of the tutorials. I miss more specifik information of how to solve problems.. Yours B
Excellent!!! Top notch!!! Crystal Clear!!!
I haven't gone through all of it yet, but what I've learned in the analog to digital section has been well worth it. I highly recommend this to any LOgic user.
Great stuff Tom! One of MPV's best! A must have for all logic Pro users. Definitely helped me understand and sort out my latency issues with audio and midi.
This is very, very good! A must have!
Wow, latency unveiled! Very clear presentation. I've never seen or heard such a concise explanation of latency problems and solutions. Thank you!
I feel this tutorial is absolutely essential for any Logic user, particularly if you work with external Midi hardware. The procedures and setups outlined by Tom are critical. So much so, I feel they should be a guided tour element of Logic itself. After having worked primarily "in the box" using mostly virtual instruments for quite some time, I was astonished at how sloppy my tracks felt when I went back to mixing in some of my vintage hardware. Following this tutorial has helped me refine the timing of my incoming midi recordings to less than 2 milliseconds. Now notes happen at bar/beat divisions as they should. It helped me to see just how much jitter and latency midi suffers from these days. Minimizing it definitely is a step in the right direction. Now, if only we could get midi interfaces that cut down on the jitter...
Having only watched about half of this tutorial so far (35 out of 73 videos) I felt compelled to review it, because it is absolutely outstanding. The material is incredibly thorough, both in its scope and its depth. It is logical and pleasant presentation makes an often confusing subject easily accessible. The icing on the cake is that it is relevant to everyday usage of one's DAW, Logic in particular. macProVideo should be proud to have access to authors that can produce tutorials of this quality. Be prepared to learn just about everything there is to know about latency! Well done Tom Rice!
Definitely one of the best audio tutorials in Macprovideo's library, both in quality and content. Looking forward to more tutorials by Tom.
This has got to be one of the best tutorials I have ever seen, you really can see that Tom spent quiet a lot of time putting together this tutorial.. I haven't finished it yet, but so far it has been great, really one of the best.
Wow!!! I have been trying figure out how all this stuff fits together for some time. You make it sound so simple. Great job on bringing clarity to an otherwise cloudy topic.
Excellent tutorial, very informative I learnt may new tips from this one, I would agree with the previous statement 'best Logic tutorial' Good work lads :-)
very comprehensive and informative tutorial, which goes far beyond the mere aspects of how to handle the latency problem
Thanks for this excellent Tutorial. I use Logic with UAD and other AU plugins along with external midi keyboards FX and VSL ensemble pro. This tutorial was a lifesaver for getting my tracks in sync. It even gave me a great idea for getting my Virus Ti bounces in sync using the USB audio. I was constantly fighting the latency and Tom provided some great tips and insight for syncing everything up.
Best Logic tutorial ever, period! I've used some of these "tips" on there own but this takes it to a whole new level, it becomes a complete workflow that's gonna save me a few gray hairs for sure! Thank you Tom!
This Tutorial is a great surprise ! It really delivers when it comes to latency. What I didn't expect was discovering the power of the IAC driver and aggregate audio devices! I really love Steve's tutorials, now I get to look forward to Tom Rice's tutorials as well. Thanks, Woody
My god, this tutorial is the bomb! It's really clear and I think it's not possible to make clearer! I learn from the first video until the end! Many concepts were familiar, but never as clear as here! Well done!
Excellent tutorial - everything and I mean EVERYTHING you ever wanted to know about the dreaded latency and how to correct OR at least fill your brain with enough info to understand why something just doesn't sound right! Well done!
