Spectrasonics Omnisphere has been making waves as a sound design tool. These videos show you why - and also how - Omnisphere makes such great sounds.
By Steve H.
Welcome to Core Omnisphere! Transformed from its notable beginnings as the ultimate pad synth called Atmosphere, Omnisphere has evolved into a truly omnipotent sound making machine!
This amazing software instrument from Spectrasonics lives up to its name because it is capable of doing every kind of synthesis and doing it extraordinarily well! From creating rich sampled pads, to heart pounding analog arpegiations ... from dense FM synthesis to glitchy grandular madness, there are worlds upon worlds of synthesizer wizardry hidden behind its intriguing faceplate.
To lead you out beyond the presets we've called upon expert synthesist, and my dear friend and mentor, Jonathan Perl! Jonathan takes out his professorial screwdriver and strips Omnisphere down to its very core to unlock all of the amazing secrets hidden deep within.
Join Jonathan as he leads us on an amazing 3-hour journey of discovery sharing his knowledge of the inner workings of Omnisphere. And there's more: not only do we become Omnisphere experts but along the way "Professor" Perl gives us an in-depth refresher course on tons of sound design techniques which strengthen our overall understanding of analog and digital synthesis and signal flow.
Whether you're an Omnisphere newbie or power user this tutorial will grab you by the ears and lead you into a world of sound that is guaranteed to enhance your productions and inspire your musical creativity.
This is a comprehensive tutorial, but you don't need to watch the entire show. Use the detailed menus and keyword search functions to quickly find items of interest. For a full list of this tutorials topics, check out the Topics tab.

Another great course. Instructor went through the entire beast that is Omnisphere and broke the entire instrument into digestible chunks. If you have Omnisphere, this is a course YOU HAVE TO TAKE!! I feel completely comfortable taking on Omnisphere and not depending on presets.
Thanks for everything, especially for explaining the basics of synthesis!
Great Tutorial! However, my complaints are that the movements of the instructors mouse do not sync with key points that he is speaking, making it difficult to follow the Tutorial. Another issue is the frames per second. It would be nice to make your tutorial videos 30fps, as opposed to what you are using now. The jittery effect on the tutorials also make it hared to follow the speech & mouse movements. Love to see more videos on Spectrasonics' Omnisphere, and their other software such as Stylus RMX, Trillian, & even Moog? Other than that, thank you for a great learning experience.
Great course!! Not only does it explain the parameters of an incredible synth plugin, but also the philosophy of synthesis itself!
I couldn't possibly imagine a more detailed tutorial. I can now really use this as a proper tool that I master instead of just using presets. many thx
SA deep, deep dive into Ominsphere's architecture and extensive control sections. Disses wavefgorms, oscillators, filters, LFO's, FX - with lots on sonic examples. Learn to make your own sounds.
Great course... I didn't realize that Omnisphere was this deep. The instructor is a bit dry, really gets inside this powerful instrument.
Good dive in Omnisphere. Seems to dig into most of the settings and parameters available. Lots of examples to show how things work.
I've been using Omnisphere for a couple years now and I felt pretty good about how I was using it until I watched this series. Only then did I realize how much I was missing out on with the power of this program. The final few sessions really pushed me over the edge to help me use this program in so many creative ways that I previously wasn't aware of.
Strongly request for a season 2 of this omnisphere tutorial! with advanced patch design examples and routine, this would be great and we will appreciate !
A great introduction to Omnisphere, it explains how it works and all the control parameters. As a few other reviewers have said it could be updated to include the latest features in Omnisphere and an introduction to sound design within Omnisphere. You can see from the browser menu what Jonathan Perl has made a lot of his own patches and no doubt could impart great wisdom in this area. It would also have been nice if Jonathan had done his examples with standard patches instead of his custom ones so it would be possible to follow the tutorials yourself. In all a great tutorial to introduce Omnisphere.
This 'Omnisphere' tutorial is superb and I picked up an understanding of many of the application's capabilities and functions that I wasn't aware of, despite having used it for 4 months already. I agree whole-heartedly with a couple of the other reviewers' in that it is crying out for a 'Part 2', which could show us the superb 'Orb' feature and could also give more 'hands-on' demonstrations of patch modifications and 'groove-lock' etc, as opposed to the 'understanding synthesis' approach taken here. That said, it is a worthwhile investment, despite their being a host of user videos available from Spectrasonics at no cost, because Jonathan's inspiring and cool approach does coax you into lifting the hood yourself and getting down to it. More please ...
the best tutorial out there dont waste your money on anything else
Great Omnisphere tutorial...highly recommend
Another great tutorial, digging really deep into Omnisphere. This on is essential for everyone using Omnisphere. But i agree with Marc that more practical tips would be very welcome - maybe in part two? Also tutorials on the other great products from Spectrasonics are needed.
Excellent video and a great introduction to omnisphere. I wish there were some more practical examples on how to create more complex patches, though. (For my taste there was a bit too much theory.) I hope there will be a second training kit for that! :-)
This tutorial is a fantastic step-by-step introduction to the awesome Spectraonsics synth but it also serves as a great primer for synthesis in general! I have been playing synths since the early 80's but haven't properly understood what I am doing, so this is great for me. I really appreciate Jonathan Perl's engaging & laid back style ("Munchkinization" vs. "Darth Vader-ization" will stick with me forever now!) and excellent examples of techniques and complex ideas. Bravo!
This tutorial is excellent, and contains reference material you will keep going back to. Johnathan covers off Omnisphere in detail, explaining all the perameters and functions en route in an easy and friendly manner. This Tutorial has all the attributes to turn you from a novice user into a power user of Omnisphere quickly and efficiently.
Great tutorial. Well explained, I look forward to more like this.
Very inspirering tutorial
What a great tutorial! Informative, inspiring and packed with useful hints and tips for getting the best out of this awesome synth.
Great layout and explination of functions
I really appreciate the structure of the Omnisphere educational video. I enjoy it especially because i can learn fast and in the right way how to use and take more benefits of this incredible instrument...definitively a good job from macprovideo's team!!!
i am now one with omnisphere great tutorial
Wow I went from a "what is a synth" to a "I am a synth" guy in 3 hours. We bought this synth to our studio and now I finally knows how to use it. No need for more synths in studio :-) This was the best invested money in a long time.
It makes you omnipotent with Omnisphere... Wich is almost frightening!!!
Jonathan leaves no stone unturned in this video. The educational expertise that precedes him is quite evident in this tutorial.
