Watch innovative producer Eyal Amir as he takes us behind the scenes with an inside look at producing bass lines in his groundbreaking series, Outside The Box...
When the bass part catches the groove, it's common knowledge that the whole production achieves a higher level of sonic perfection. You know what I'm talking about, right? Think Steely Dan, Michael Jackson, Dream Theater... It's when the drums and bass lock in and create a solid foundation to support and propel all the other tracks! But how is that accomplished? What are the secret ingredients? Until now, no one has attempted to explain just how that magic is created. Enter macProVideo's Eyal Amir (of R&L fame) to take you on a journey to the bottom of the tracks where he demystifies the powerful world of the bass.
Eyal goes deep to teach us the very essence of composing and performing bass lines! In this real-world video documentary, he has assembled an awesome group of talented musicians who demonstrate in actual recording studio situations, how he thinks about, composes and records the bass.
You'll learn the deep secrets of groove. You'll see how what you don't play is almost as important as the notes themselves. You'll understand the intimate relationship between the bass and the drums and how they dance together to form the structural foundation of any production.
Finally you'll get musical insights from the very talented and knowledgable Eyal who, in his personal way and with his award-winning smile, generously shares the knowledge he has gained from working with the best musicians in the world. And keep your eyes open for a cameo appearance by keyboardist extraordinaire Jordan Rudess!
Be sure to check out all of Eyal's courses as he continues to expand the knowledge bass of the macProVideo.com community the world over!

Another quality course from Eyal, covering articulation, syncopation and many other techniques you'd expect in bassline composition. A very good quick course that beginners can go on to explore further with.
Amir proves his genius leading you through this tutorial. Would have liked to see DAW examples but the lectures were thorough enough.
macprovid does it again with another great tutorial. thai is a gem, lots of good information presented clearly. tons of examples. was a really great time to watch. all bassists should watch this
Does an okay job of explaining how to do custom bass lines. Would have been better if he showed it within a DAW sequencer using MIDI, especially for the odd signatures and bass variations.
Another insightful course from Eyal. I liked the thoughts on bass grooving in odd time sigs and doubling bass with synth. Very cool.
This was really inspirational and deepened my idea of making grooves a lot. I have been a fan of Eyal Amir's works for a good time but this gave me all new insight of his music and thought processes beyond. Thanks!
Great tutorials as always!! Very enthusiastic and understandable teacher. Wish there were more to this series..
I started playing bass again after a couple of decades of playing with faders. So from the perspective of a techie, starting to play again this tutorial was perfect. The instructor is a talented player, and clearly understands what he is teaching. I found the simple instructions on the backbeat and syncopation were excellent, and made easy to grasp by clear instruction mixed with some innovative videography. I highly recommend it to any bass players who want to tighten up their recordings.
Very good video.. Easily and clearly explained. Provides ideas and inspiration, and helps getting one 'focused'. I had a very good bass recording after watching this video.
Great short and to the point. Well done.
WOW this is amazing..i've always been wondering about the thought process behind creating groovie bass lines...This tutorial gave me a great insight into it.
