Apple Motion users: if you want to create generators, titles or effects for use in Final Cut Pro X, this tutorial by Iain Anderson will help you rigging (combining multiple parameters in a simple GUI)
These three buttons add widgets to a rig

What is rigging?

Just a regular title with an extra Drop Zone

Get started

Look in the Object menu to make new items, including Rigs.

Create a checkbox rig

The floating window is a reminder that you’re being watched, and your choices are being recorded.

Edit Mode

Note: If you want to add a parameter to a widget, but that parameter is already at the value you want, it’s easiest to change it (to anything else), leave Edit Mode, then change the value back.
This is what you should see once you’ve changed the name of your checkbox.
The next step will make, rename and set up values for a pop-up menu.

Create a pop-up rig

We’ll now add a dark grey background panel behind the text, and control its opacity with a slider widget.

Create a slider rig

A new slider—make sure you set up the range before you go much further.
Here are all three widgets after setup.

Revising your rigs

These three pop-ups have just one choice each, and are used to separate sections in the FCP X Inspector.
