If you like EDM, Logic Pro X and designing sounds, you'll get a kick out of this tutorial! Darren Burgos takes you on a tour of Ultrabeat. Your mission is simple: to design your own big kicks.

    Cool tip Darren, thanks! I also had fun using this technique and making a summing stack out of the 2 software instrument tracks. That way I maintained MIDI control over both sounds simultaneously and could experiment with how they responded to velocity. Also cool for timbral change over time (i.e. automating any of the parameters of either of the sounds throughout the course of a track, e.g. envelope decay, or slowly ramping up the volume of the click to build intensity, etc.)

    Hey, there are THREE sliders in the oscillator. One red, one blue and one green. What are these all for again?!? I am confused as to which one to adjust and also an tips or tricks on how to opt click them to default, etc.

    Hi Micaiah. The red is the actual value itself. You can also adjust this value directly under the word "pitch" where is shows the value like G#0. The blue slider in UB is always used to adjust how much the currently selected mod will effect the specific parameter. The green value is how much the external velocity or CC then effects the mod. Think ES2/EXS24 router ...it's really the same idea. Option clicking most parameters in Logic will set them back to their default value.

    Hey Darren, this would have been a good article to have in a VIDEO. A lot of things were not very clear to me, like what I mentioned above AND the fact that the kick was 12.9 db OVER LIMIT! So it was in the red, but you said boost it up to 10 db which put me WAY IN THE RED and you didn't mention anything about controlling hot levels or clipping.

    Hey Darren, this would have been a good article to have in a VIDEO. A lot of things were not very clear to me, like what I mentioned above AND the fact that the kick was 12.9 db OVER LIMIT! So it was in the red, but you said boost it up to 10 db which put me WAY IN THE RED and you didn't mention anything about controlling hot levels or clipping.

    Hi Micaiah. We're you adjusting more parameters than the article suggests? If you follow along exactly, it shouldn't be clipping. Maybe the combination of the EFM1 is the culprit. If this is this case, simply adjusting both instrument's volumes on their channels will fix this. Also remember you can use "Overload Protection" from the bounce menu. This article is more about getting you excited about designing kicks with UB, rather than giving specific mixing advice.

    Hey Erick. Really? Should sound identical if your bouncing it. Volume maybe of the track you put them on after bouncing. Match the volume be ear and tell me if they still sound different.
