Not all free and great services come from Apple and Google. SoundCloud, for example provides an online venue for musicians, DJs and regular enthusiasts to show off their music. Of course, you can update and this gives you much more storage space, capabilities, etc. The key here is: They give you a little taste to get your started. And, we all like a little taste, right?
Gobbler is no different: you are offered up to 5 GB for free, and there are also various little ways of earning more storage space, provided you registered before a certain time. Even if you didn’t though, Gobbler transfers files extraordinarily fast from one account to another, and is geared towards musicians. If you decide that you can’t live without it, you want all your stuff backed up to your Gobbler account, and you need to send out even more projects at lightning speed, starting at $8 a month it’s still a steal! And, it also works really well with SoundCloud.
This article is designed to show you how Gobbler works, and why you should be giving it a gander.
Go to the Gobbler website and download the Gobbler client. It’s a small 12 MB file, and installs very quickly.
Once you’ve installed and launched Gobbler, you’ll be asked to create an account. It doesn’t take long and like I mentioned before, you start with 5 GB. That is 5 GB dedicated to audio from a program that knows how to send all of your projects the right way, and a service that sends your projects very, very fast!
Let’s face it: it’s the file sharing function of Gobbler that is the most valuable part. As mentioned above, it can also be used to back up projects... And, we are discounting the value in this, but it’s the sharing that is the big part. So, let’s go with this first.
Situated in the upper lefthand corner of the Gobbler client is a small, winged object labeled ‘Send Files’.
Press the ‘Send Files’ button. This will bring up a small window that is very similar to an email form. Go ahead and type in the email of the person you want to send your file to. Keep in mind that Gobbler can, and does access Address Book on your Mac for emails that you already have.
Now, as if you were using the Internet 30 years from now, you can choose a file from your hard drive to send to your partner, wherever they are. Simply press the + button.
Search your hard drive for the file that you’d like to send. When you’ve selected it, press the Choose button:
Next, I would seriously advise adding a description. What will happen is: An email will be sent to the person you want to download the file. Adding a little statement in there really helps!
This is where the magic happens! A small window will appear, giving you updates on the sending process. The upload speed depends on your Internet service, etc. But the biggest thing to know is: it’s very fast in comparison to what else is out there.
Once the upload is complete, the email goes out from Gobbler to whomever you want to share it with. The other person does not have to have a Gobbler account. You will receive an email telling you that the upload was complete (since we all love status reports). And, life can carry on as normal.
This, my friend, is the simplicity of Gobbler! So, now that you know… Go grab it! Try it out!
