The wind section is made up of several different families: the flutes, oboes, clarinets and bassoons and each family has its own, unique way of producing sound. This course's first section explains each family's playing characteristics including tone production, breathing, embouchure, fingering articulations and much, much more.

Then, Maestro Goss opens up his orchestration guidebook and takes you on a scoring journey. It is in this section that you learn all about score positions, section sizes, seating plans, transposing instruments and registers. Excellent course! In-depth and thorough coverage of the wind section with live performance examples and scores really make this course informative and valuable. And this is only half of it. The accompanying pdf is a tremendous resource for score study and learning further scoring details for woodwinds. I can't wait for the next course 103 Wind Instruments course. When will it be released?

A great series and I am eagerly awaiting new tutorials on this topic. My only complaint is that this tutorial was worded in a drier and more long-winded way compared to 101 Strings. It also spent a *lot* of time talking about wind acoustics and not as much about score reading or functionality. I still can't wait to see any new tutorials on this topic!

Absolutely Excellent. Very thorough and presented clearly with, well, a well orchestrated organization. Mr. Goss' voice is authoritative without condescension and is very listenable and his narrative is sprinkled a great sense of humour.
