ESX24. What Instruments Are There in LP 8 Out of The Box?
I am working on a "country" type demo project right now on LP8, and cannot find some of the essential instruments I need in EXS24. I am fully loaded with Jam Pack and Audio contents. I think that it is strange that these "typically available on any keyboard synths" are lacking, so I am hoping that this is some simple configuration errors or rebuilinding of some index (for which I don't know how either). Of course they could be omitted and in which case, I will need to buy them (any recommendations?) Anyhow, do you have following types of sounds in your ESX24 list of factory samples? - Harmonica type sound - Pedal Steel type sound - Jazzy type Flute (I have orchestral flutes)

Hi Manabu, In Logic open the Library and in the search field type in "flute" for example, you'll find plenty of channel strips with flutes... In the Loops Browser do the same. For Harmonica, I only found blue (audio) apple loops. However, for pedal steel there were a few green (software instrument) loops. I'd recommend using the green apple loops by dragging them onto a software instrument channel strip. You will then have an Instrument and can delete the MIDI region if desired. Does that help? Cheers Rounik

Hi Maunabu, 1. You're absoltely right... there doesn't seem to be any harmonica instruments in Logic. I really thought there was one but I can't find it... 2. Pedal steel is a very complex instrument to program because it involves using a metal slide (instead of fingers) to create a smooth sound between notes. It also involves using a volume pedal to create volume swell effects. I'm not actually on sure on how you can recreate a realistic pedal steel sound on Logic... or any other softwares or synths for that matter. The best bet would be to use a combination of a steel string guitar, Guitar Amp Pro and volume automation. 3. Try the GarageBand Instruments/ Woodwind/Pop Flute. Is that what you're looking for ? Rounik, Thank you for the post. Glad that you could not found the Harmonica like me. Now I at at peace that I was not going mental. I even know that there are Nashville Pdeal Guitar loops, but I would rather wing it on my keys myself via ESX24. It seems to be strange that non Harmonica ESX24 is available, and non Steel guitar of any kind, except Steel string acoustic guitar.... BTW, as I was writing this I went in to Sculpture and there is one in the Legacy plucked set. Still no-harmonica! Thanks again and also nice to meet you. Please accept a point from me. Christian: Thank you also for your response. That's darn strange for the omission of one of the most basic blues instruments of American music, but then I guess Logic is basically a "German" instrument ;-) In terms of the Pedal Steel, I have a Korg M3 KARMA, and it can drive definitely "better than I can do" riffs from chords, so I will probably use that instead, I guess... Of course, I am talking about getting this into a demo track so I will really lay low on the mix.

I'm on my MacBook right now with Logic 8 so I can't verify this. I will do some reseacrh and will let you know later! Have fun with your country music! :)

Hey Manabu, Yup, no harmonica that I can find either... But, like Christian, I seem to remember a harmonica in Logic 7... I've checked all the legacy settings, but no joy yet :( By the way, I like your blog very much... Especially September 19th's post ;-))) http://stokemusic.blogspot.com/2008/09/great-logic-pro-8-tutorial.html You might be able to find some good samples from here: http://www.freesound.org/samplesViewSingle.php?id=35393http://www.zero-g.co.uk/index.cfm?Articleid=699 I've only googled these two - so can't vouch for the Zero-G collection, although they are very popular sample creators! Let us know how you get on :-) Rounik

Thank you BOTH so much and also thank you for checking into my blog. I was really dreading that I screwed up my Logic 8 installation and dreaded that re-install. So thank you for giving me that sanity check. I tend to forget a lot of things so documenting what I know is a must for me and why not share the knowledge while I am at it! Well it looks like I should just produce most of the track on M3 and record that as audio. Will also check into the sample sites you mentioned. In terms of the country tracks, it is definitely more challenging than the "drag and drop loops" dance grooves, and let alone without live musicians. It is definitely on a fun side in a challenging way(and never dreamed that I would help write country demo up to now). I am starting to appreciate also how difficult it is to mix down country. Once I am done, I will put a short demo clip on my web site and will let you hear.

Full agreement with the response. I posted the same question on the Logic Pro forum at Apple. So far, no response there. I will also check into Big Flash Audio. Thanks for the tip. We the "computer savvy" musicians need to "band" together and help!
