Microphone in Logic 9 Maestro 2 Apogee Duet No Sound
Hi, I have tried every conceivable way to get this to work. I am getting Nothing on Software Return in Apogee nor am I getting any Output from logic to my Studio Speakers brand new. input is sketchy at best. All work fine with NED, ITunes and DVD's etc.. I followed all of the steps even to re-booting and I still get no sound from the Microphone. I am using an SMS58 with 48 Phantom On and I tried it off. I have 2 mics and have tried both and both work elsewhere. I have been with Logic since 8 and know my way around pretty good. I have re-checked all of the areas and can't seem to get anywhere. Any help would stop me from regressing here and losing time. All cables have been tested and work fine. I haven't left anything out that could be tested. Didn't think setting up a microphone channel would be so trying and frustrating. Using Lion 7.2 MacBook pro 8gig. Thank anyone for help!

Hi Quickster, Is this a new audio interface? Has it worked before? Have you done any new software updates? Logic, Apple, or Apogee updates? Your SM58 shouldn't need Phantom power as it is a dynamic microphone. If you have tried different cables, and mics then all that is left is either the audio interface or the Mac. What is working fine with NED, iTunes etc...? Are you saying that you are getting audio out your speakers when connected to the Apogee Duet? Then the only problem can be the input side of things with the Apogee. I don't have an Apogee interface, but can try give you some tips to check. In Logic make sure the Apogee Duet is your Input Device (Preferences > Audio > Input Device), and make sure on your Audio channel that you are choosing the correct Input. I think it should be input 1. If anyone else with an Apogee device can maybe assist as I maybe giving the incorrect details with regards to this device. Also try look at the Apogee Duet PDF manual, they may mention something in there: http://support.apogeedigital.com/assets/documentation/duet_usersguide.pdf

Hi and thanks for the help and suggestions. I discovered why it was although this may or may not sound right. When I selected the add new audio channel I chose mono. Finally when I changed the channel strip to stereo it began to work. I'm really not sure how that happened or worked. But what to do if you just want "mono"? I wasn't able to get "mono" to work and produce sound from the microphone. Just accept stereo? What about other mono items that might want to be recorded as mono? Thanks again everyone!!! BTW: the mic was an SMS58

Hi Gary: ... "Have you done any new software updates? Logic, Apple, or Apogee updates?" ... right on ... updated to MacOS 10.7.2, Logic9.1.6, also Apogee Ensemble/Maestro ... all audio out perfect except from Logic thru Ensemble ... the answer for me was that in the Audio Midi Setup the selected device was the 'Ensemble' (yes) ... but because i'd removed the old software ... the designated device name was pointing to nothing ... hitting the tab scroll on the right allowed me to see/select another Ensemble device which pointed to active software ... the other indicator was that the Mixer 'Out & Master' displayed no destination ... result ... sound routed out internal MacBP speakers ... cheers ! ... phrase
