    Logic 8 Wanted Tips
Hi. I was hoping to get some help. I use Logic 8, and a Prophet 08 external Synth. The Prophet CC for filter cutoff (CC102) goes from 0-164 instead of 0-127. Is there a way to adjust for this in the environment? Also I was wondering this. Whenever I write a song, I like to hear how it sounds in my car stereo. Can you guys could go over a quick mastering lesson with the the Logic 8 Mastering preset that is included? Thanks!

Yeah the P-8 filter covers 13 octaves 0-164, which is totally going overboard. If you start with 20 hz and extrapolate it up 10 octaves the resulting frequency is 20000 hz... which is at the very top end of human pitch perception. The next octave would be double that which is 20000 hz above our ability to perceive!! Those last 36 steps are totally useless in terms of both perception and standard MIDI protocol! You can just ignore the last 3 octaves and use 0-127 without fear of being shortchanged!! And, no there is no way in the environment or ANY current MIDI device (other than the P8 I guess) to address more than 128 steps. Of course it would be great to a have a finer resolution!!! Regarding mastering.... we're thinking about it in the future! Be well, Steve H.

Hi Steve The thing is.. 0 in Logic is 36 on the Prophet, and you can hear a difference from 0 to 36. I was wondering if there was something the environment I could use to offset or something using a transform node. Thanks for the reply.

Hi Jivetalker! Try controlling the cutoff with the mod wheel. Then you can control the Mod Wheel within Logic.

No problem! You have a mod wheel on your synth that you can use to change any synth parameters. You need to program your synth so that the Modulation wheel change the cutoff freq. If you're not familiar with programming your synth, you will need to check in your manual for more info about this. Or find a patch already programmed so the mod wheel controls the cutoff. Now in Logic : -In the Piano Roll local menu go to : View/Hyperdraw/Modulation -You will be able to draw Modulation change that will control the cutoff. -You can also record your synth and play with the Mod wheel... your filter sweep will be recorded. Tell me if it works!

Heh.. He was meaning that towards me. Yeah, I know I can mod the freq to the modwheel, but I want to use the mod wheel for something else. I know there has to be a math formula to use in the enviornment. So what is it? Like a divide or something? I suck at math.. I just write music, and tweak synth env's.

If you use the modwheel to control other parameters, you could use another Modulation Source (Breath or Foot Control for exemple). Then you can control the cutoff with hyperdraw or with a fader in the environment (set to Breath or Foot control).
