hello all, i hope someone here can help with this... ive got the m-audio keystation pro 88 controller and when i record midi in logic it records 5 midi notes stacked on top of each other. what i mean is: when i hit a key once... it records 5 of that same note stacked on top of one another so the performance is very loud so each time the melody is played it is 5 times louder than it ought to be. when i record with the caps lock keyboard... it records 1 midi note per keystroke... which is normal and good heres the thing... in ableton, i can record midi with my m audio controller and it records it with one note per keystroke..which is normal and good so i don't think it is my controller.... it must be something in logic can't seem to figure it out...please help

If your other controller works fine, and the caps keyboard works, I'd look to the controller as the culprit. Sometimes this can happen if Local Control is not turned off, but if it's a controller, it probably shouldn't have local control to begin with. Do you have a MIDI cable pluggedinto the input? Maybe there's a MIDI loop happening ...

it is strange well i have done a little more testing i have 2 midi controller keyboards (keyboard A and keyboard B)... both of them work fine in ableton only keyboard B works fine in logic... so now i don't know if the problem is with logic, keyboard A or both

Darn, I'm at NAMM right now, and I forgot my Logic dongle ... :( There is a way to filter signals in the environment, which would solve the problem, but i just can't quite remember what it is off the top of my head!! If you don't get it solved by next week, let me know and I'll help you out ... :) Having said that, I'm pretty sure the issue is with the controller, and not Logic ...

ok some how, some way... i think we as a mac pro video team can solve this doozy of a problem. so as i said before... 1) the problem is with the keystation pro 88 2) it only happens with logic... not ableton etc i have put up some pics of my midi configuration and logic environment to hopefully shed some light on the situation http://www.mylespower.info/logicprob/

Ok... so the keystation is connected via MIDI, not USB ? If so, try connecting it via USB and see what hapens. If the problem goes away, then it's definitively a MIDI problem.

thats the weird thing it is connected via usb and not through a midi interface...

Ahhh good old system trouleshooting ... 1st, click the Monitor Object and drag the box in the bottom right corner to make it longer so you can see more events in the list. Press a key on the keystation ... do 5 seperate play events occur? if so, the problem is almost certanly with the signal coming into Logic from the controller. Next, I'd personally create a new monitor and then drag a seperat cable from the output trangle of Port 1 (ie, NOT the SUM output) to the new monitor and press a key again, see if anything different happens. if nothing happens, then you know port 1 is not the keystation, so you'll need to cycle down through the ports until you figure out which one is the keystation. If there is still 5 events, it's looking more and more like the keystation itself. You could try throwing a Voice Limiter object in the path and see if that helps ... if it does, you will need to customize your environment appropriatly ... that will take some fiddling around, but you'll probably need to assign the voice limiter before the instrument object you are going to play, and then target the voice limiter in the arrange window. Sounds easy and fun, huh? The first step though is figuring out where the duplicate notes are coming from ..
