Moved on to Logic 8 - Can I safely uninstall Logic 7 ?
I'm thinking of uninstalling Logic Pro 7. I'm much happier using Logic 8 thanks to the many improvements and your excellent tutorials. I upgraded from Pro 7 and used the XS Key to install Logic 8. I don't have any projects that would need Logic 7. Are there problems I might encounter that make it best to just leave Logic 7 on the drive? I'm concerned about leaving fragments of stuff that might cause problems. Will I need to keep the XS Key handy for future upgrades? If there's a good way to uninstall Logic 7 without causing problems, I'd love to hear it.

Hi Bluesbird You can just delete the Logic 7 app from the Applications folder. Don't worry about your plug-in/channel strip settings, exs instruments, apple loops as these are stored elsewhere. It's very important that you keep your xskey very safe. If you ever need to re-install your Logic 8 upgrade copy you will need it. Apple have not released any info on whether we'll need the xskey for future upgrades yet. Let us know how you get on. Cheers Rounik

Hi Rounik It appears you are correct in stating that Logic 7 can be removed safely. I put the Logic 7 app in the trash and was able to open Logic 8 with no problems. I'm dumping Logic 7 and not looking back. Thanks for your helpful comments!

Hi BluesBird, Just be aware that Logic 8 will not open any songs made pre-version 5.x, so if you (or anyone else) has old song files, you will need to first open them in Logic 7, re-save, and then open in Logic 8. I have songs going back to Logic v2.x but if all your songs are more recent, this issue won't affect you. In any case, Logic 7 & 8 live comfortably side by side (for now) - I use them both. Regards - Colin

Hi Colin, Thanks for the heads-up on needing Logic 7 to open older files. Not a problem for me, fortunately, since I only started with Logic 7 and didn't get much done before switching to Logic 8. I appreciate your taking the time to offer useful advice! All The Best, BluesBird
