New "ProKit 4.5" update released by Apple
Apple have just released a prokit 4.5 update download. This is taken from Apple's website: "This update improves reliability for Apple's professional applications and is recommended for all users of Final Cut Studio, Final Cut Express, Aperture, Logic Studio and Logic Express." http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/prokit45.html I haven't downloaded this yet, but do add to this thread and let us know about your experiences and whether it has an effect on Logic's performance/reliability if you install it.

I believe the Pro Kit update affects high level code of Apple's pro apps. The improvements seem to be based on the GUI and Logic operating better under Leopard. I haven't tried it out yet. Cheers Rounik

Mac Fixit has reports of problems with ProKit 4.5: Some users have reported that their Mac OS X Docks are mysteriously absent from view after applying the recent iPhoto 7.1.2 or ProKit 4.5 updates. The fix for this issue is usually simple. Launch Activity Monitor (located in /Applications/Utilities -- you access Spotlight and type "Activity Monitor" if your Finder is not functioning properly) and find "Dock" in the process list. Select it, then press the Quit button, choosing to force quit. The Dock will relaunch and should appear after a few seconds. You may also need to force quit the Finder (perform the same procedure on the process named "Finder"). This is more disturbing though: Some users are reporting crashes in Logic after the update. Maybe better to wait for more news on this update.... Regards - Colin

Hi Guys, I have had no problems with either update... But, as I usually do before using anything after software update, I did go to disc utility and verify permissions... And yes there was something that needed to be repaired. All seems to be working well, haven't noticed any improvements or disimprovements... Cheers, Bj

Thanks Bj & Colin for your experiences & advice! Some users on Leopard have remarked that Logic behaves as they expected it would. However, I've also come across some very unhappy reports of Logic crashing or freezing after said update. If anyone is thinking of updating please do make a clone or a backup of your system first. Thanks Rounik

I did the update on Tiger yesterday... absolutely no problem at all. No freeze, no crashes... but no improvement either. I'll report if something goes wrong.
