Change Midi Instrument in finished Midifile
Hello everyone here in the forum. I have a question about Logic Pro X (version: 10.5.1). I am desperately trying to change instruments when I buy a midifile. In such a way that I can save it for the future. For example, replace a guitar with a banjo for the song COUNTRY ROADS. If I do that, then export the Midifile is new when it is opened again and in its original state. So it does not accept the change of instruments. Does anyone know how this works? Thanks in advance.

Hi - My guess would be that there may be a program change message embedded in the MIDI file. Try this: select the Region for the MIDI file in Logic and hit "D" to open the List Editor; check to see if there's a Program Change message at the top of the list (or anywhere in the list) of notes, and if there is, select it and delete it (or replace it with a Program Change message for the correct GM instrument). Then re-save the Project or export the edited Region as a new MIDI file..
