    Problem with keyboard
Hi there, a couple of days ago my Macintosh keyboard stopped allowing me to type letters, numbers and key commands. However the mouse and the eject key still work. I'm running OSX 10.4.11 on a Powermac G5. I've tried all other usb ports as well as disconnecting all other external devices. I've tried to open the keyboard & mouse panel in system preferences but it keeps on quitting. I decided to try the same keyboard on my old G4 and it works fine. Also every time i start up my computer, a dialogue appears telling me that my computers clock is set to a date before March 24th 2001, and that i need to correct this. When I open up the Date and Time preference panel everything is correct therefore does not need correcting. If anyone can help me it will be much appreciated. Many thanks, Chris.

Hi Chris, If you have not already tried this... give Repair Permissions a go... If this doesn't help perhaps a visit to your local Apple Store/Reseller to see if they can shed any light on the problems.. As to the clock issue and taking a shot in the dark...it could be the Battery in your Mac needs replacing... HTH Cheers, Bj

Hi Bj, thanks for the advice. I gave Repair Permissions a go, like you suggested, but still no joy. Can anyone suggest anthing else to try? Once again Bj, thanks for your help. Chris.

Hi, new battery fixed time and date issues but not the problem with keyboard. So I deleted all the contents inside both my internal hard drives cache folders and everything works fine again. Cheers, Chris.

Hi, i'll explain a bit clearer in case any new user like myself encounters this problem. I went to my System Folder>Library>Cache dragged all of the contents of the Cache folder to the trash bin and then on to my root libray>Cache folder and did the same. Restarted my computer and then emptied the trash. And Bobs your uncle :) Not sure why I had to empty the trash bin after restarting my computer instead of before, but hey, who am I too question Uncle Bob. I guess it's Party time. :) All the best, and thanks once again for all your help,Chris.

[quote:][/quote] Take a look at Cocktail ( http://www.maintain.se/cocktail/index.php ) . It will by your choice clear out cached files with no fuss or muss. I've owned/used the programme for years. Well worth the shareware $$$. Single user $15US.
