How To Sample???? tips or techniques
Hey there guys Im New to producing I'm really trying to get better at creating beats (instrumentals) my main goal though is learning how to Sample. How do people sample something lets say like from the 50's that is pretty much really hard to find some sheet music for. I'm trying to replay what ever it is that they played. Also for example the producer Pretty Lights when he samples a vocal from a song how does he take out all the instruments from the original and just keep the vocals. also when people sample instead of just chopping up the original piece of audio and just looping it. i rather replay it myself so that way i don't have leakage from other instruments. and just overall have better control of the sonic space in my mix. If you guys have any tips or techniques on sampling it would be greatly appreciated. by the way I'm using native instruments maschine and protools. if you guys know anything on logic its good too but I'm not that familiar with it so i would much rather prefer maschine or protools. THAANNNNKKKKSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Sampling is quite an art. Some producers do get hold of stems from record companies. This allows them access to the separate elements for resampling. But most of the other times it is down to great selection of audio bits from the track where you can isolate the instruments. EQ's can also be applied to minimize the sound of the other instruments. Have you taken a look at our Maschine videos: I don't think we have covered any Pro Tools sampling techniques in our video tutorials. If you are looking at replaying something from a sample, then the key is learning how to replicate those sounds in the original recording, and creating those sounds via synths or samples and the writing a melody or track using those new created sampled/synth sounds. Whats synths are you using in Pro Tools? I would say get to know the Maschine unit and get familiar with all Pro Tools features and techniques. Once you can get around your software very well, you will find that sampling/resampling types of music will become much easier. Also keep a lookout of the macProVideo Hub for great Pro Tools tips and tricks:
