Per your suggestions, I MOVED my prefs from Library to desktop, then reopened Logic - it created new Prefs, but the Zero key (which usually re-sets the playhead to the first , as you know) just clicked - would not work, either on the number keypad or the top row. I could not find any place in the Prefs to set this (fix it) -- so I dragged my old prefs which I had put on my desktop (per your instructions) into the proper place in the Library - it replaced the pref file that was there (that it had created when I re-opened Logic) and now the zero key works. Where is this set in the Preferences in case I run into this again (especially if I had to re-install the program)? alex

Rounik -- well, it's working now. I wanted to wait until I got my computer back to make sure. I took it to Atlanta Pro Audio (which is also a licensed Mac tech service). They agreed with me (for instance, if you copy and paste a region in "no overlap" drag mode, there should be no trouble placing crossfades). Anyways, he rolled back the operating system from Snow Leo to 10.5.8 then re-installed Logic 9. It works fine now. I don't think I was wrong about the crossfades, but I cannot thank you enough for all the time you took -- I am so appreciative -- you have a great Company. Peace - alex

Many of us home studio folks who use Logic are interested in making videos for teaching guitar, or just playing songs (for youtube or for teaching). I just took Francesco Schiavon's fabulous iMovie tutorial. If y'all could do a tutorial for how to make a music video (of oneself playing guitar, for instance) - with the music recorded into Logic. For instance: do I "film" myself playing into iMovie while recording what I'm playing into Logic? Do I then export the iMovie project to Quick Time (because the Logic video sync function has to work with a Quick Time movie)? Oh, when I am playing into Logic, do I have to do it at 48k sampling rate (videos use 48K, right) and 16 or 24 bit? -- I guess 16 bit. Is the final Logic project (video and music) then exported back to QuickTime etc etc? How does iDVD fit in with this? Your tutorial could take us through the whole project - that would be totally awesome. Actually, if you can answer those questions, I would be most appreciative (in paragraph above). But in the long run, I bet this would be a great tutorial for y'all -- it brings together "video making" (iMovie) and Logic - I bet that would be a major popular tutorial - and it is something lots of us want to know (for youtube and for teaching music). I am so glad I signed up so that I have access to watch any tutorial when I want -- that is how I was able to pick Francesco's iMovie tutorial - and why I am now interested in pursing this new project. I want to make a video of me playing guitar. I want to record the video in iMovie but record the audio in Logic so that I can then put effects into the audio and then use it in Imovie (sync it there). Questions: 1. Can I do this? (will I be able to add beat markers to it in iMovie) 2. If so, are there any tricks? (I know that to use a garage band audio track you have to save the audio for preview in iLife). Does this mean that I would have to first save my audio files in Logic after putting in the effects (i.e., bounce my file with effects) - import them into a new project in garage band and then save it (through iMovie) for preview in iLife. OR, CAN I JUST DRAG INTO iMOVIE A LOGIC AUDIO FILE FROM THE FINDER WINDOW AND THEN BE ABLE TO PLACE BEAT MARKERS IN IT? THAT IS, WILL AN AUDIO FILE CREATED IN LOGIC BE ABLE TO BE EDITED (BEAT MARKERS) IN iMOVIE? 3. If I can use a Logic audio file dragged directly into iMovie, does it matter what type of file? My guess is that it should have been recorded 16 bit rather than 24 bit (I would normally record 24 bit), and 44.1K sample rate. BUT THE MORE IMPORTANT QUESTION IS - I typically record a wav file -- I believe I can import a wav file into iMovie, but I could go ahead and bounce it (with my effects, of course -- after all, that's the point of recording the audio in Logic) as an AAC file (because that's where it ultimately should end up for the video) and drag in an AAC file. I may also post this in the iLife forum as well since I don't know if this is more appropriately a Logic or iMovie question!!!!! Regardless, don't answer twice!!!!! thanks as always - alex

Rounik - I asked the other day about recording the video of me playing into iMovie but recording the audio (guitar) into Logic so that for the audio I could: 1) add effects in Logic and then import into iMovie and 2) so that I could use my good mics and mic pre's for the audio The reason I asked was because I have the input in the Mac preferences set to my Duet (and output as well) and I was thinking that since I am using (before buying a good camera) my built-in iSight for the video but have my Mac prefs set to my Duet for the audio input (so I can use my good mics etc), that the iSight would not pick up my audio, and it would not be routed to iMovie and therefore I actually had no choice but to record the audio into Logic. This of course makes it a pain to sync the audio and video in iMovie once I import into iMovie the audio file from Logic (with effects in it). BUT - I just finally experimented with this process - and I discovered that the audio of the guitar was in BOTH iMovie (and of course already perfectly synced) AND also in Logic. Does this mean that iMovie automatically records the audio from whatever input source I have set up in my Mac prefs (and yet it could still be recorded in Logic as well). If this is the case, AWESOME - that means that I can record through my good mics and mic pre's into iMovie as I record the video - is this right?? Also, I would not have to sync the audio and video in iMovie (which is a pain) if so - then two additional questions (aren't I a pain - and quite detailed with my questions!): First: can I record TWO tracks into iMovie - this would be my acoustic guitar direct and a vocal mic (I need both in order to video a guitar lesson). If so, would BOTH audio tracks show up in iMovie if I were to detach audio? Second: You said to then export the iMovie to Logic - then detach the audio track(s) in Logic - add effects (and I assume then bounce the audio to a single stereo file so that it will have the effects in the audio file), attach the new bounced file back to the movie and then export back to iMovie as a Quicktime file (am I correct in this process once I get it to Logic)?. To do this: a) do I detach or not detach the audio track(s) first in iMovie before I export to Logic, or do I wait and detach them in Logic? b) do I export from iMovie as a Quicktime file -- and then export back out of Logic as a Quicktime file. c)finally (aren't you glad!!), if I am to detach the audio file(s) in Logic (rather than in iMovie), how do I detach them in Logic (btw, I have worked some with importing a Quicktime movie into Logic and working with an audio track in it). My Logic project on my computer has channel strip settings used in it which I have saved as my own (and are in my logic/app support library), and also has some plug-in settings that I have tweaked for this project - these tweaked setting for EQ etc are of course saved with the project. I now want to backup the project on my computer and put it on Logic on a computer at a studio where another track will be paid down. Will the channel strip settings and tweaked plug-in settings move with the backup of my project to Logic on the computer at the studio just as I have them set up and tweaked on my project on my computer? That is, for the channel strip settings, would I have to save them and them put them in the application support library for Logic on the computer at the studio for my project to be able to access them when I move it to the computer at the studio. And, for tweaked plug-in settings as I have them in my project on my computer, would they remain the same (in their tweaked state!) when the project is moved to the computer at the studio?

Rounik - yes, I do have mobile me and love it. When you referred to backing up a project (etc) to my mobile me account, I assume you mean that I back it up to my iDisk? I haven't done this yet but have read how to do it. If I do that, then I can just log on to my mobile me account at the other computer and download it onto that computer? Is this what your'e referring to? I know I can also attach (though it's not really attached, but is remaining on the iDisk) a project file as an e-mail "attachment" and then download it. But I assume you really mean to just back the project up to it and then log on to my account at the new computer and download it?? Thanks again for all your help Alex

Situation: My project is in Logic. My vocalist is on the other side of the continent I Want to add her vocal to my project She only has access to studios with Pro Tools where she is Basically all I need is a 24 bit Wav of her vocal track I could then just drag her vocal audio file (24 bit Wav) into my project I will use my iDisk for transferring files/project Question: Is there a way to accomplish what I want? If so, what method(s) would you recommend to do? One thing – I would think that she would have to make her own comp of her vocal takes in Pro Tools and then make it into one audio file for me to drag into my project (that is, I couldn’t take a Pro Tools take folder (doesn’t the newest Pro Tools comp now like Logic’s “comp swiping” ability?) and drag it (the "un-comped" takes recorded in Pro Tools) into my Logic project because that aspect of the programs (takes and comping) would not be compatible, I would think. If so, this would be one drawback, because I would be mixing the song, so I would like to choose the final comping of her takes. But that just might be the way it is. Thanks, as always -- Alex

Thanks. Now what you said to do is, I think, exactly what I was thinking to do: that all she needs to do is import into Pro Tools a bounce of my project to listen to as she records her takes. So, here's what I want to make sure about regarding my bounce -- my project has let's say, four tracks (each a 24 bit Wav file). When I bounce all four tracks to one file, what type of file do I bounce them as (to send to her), and do I keep it as 24 bit (or dither to 16 bit)? I'm sure I keep the bounce as a 24 bit file, but just want to make sure. Thus: 1. Should I bounce as 24 bit or 16 bit? 2. Should I choose WAV or AIFF (remember, my project is WAV files)? 3. Or what? In other words, when I go to the bounce function in Logic, what type of tile do I choose to bounce them as (WAV or AIFF).? My guess is that I would bounce as a 24 bit Wav. And I'll make sure we have the same sample rate And that is a great idea of how to have her do takes and then I import them (each as an individual audio file - 24 bit Wav) and then pack a take folder. 4. So, just to a make sure about her recording her takes -- she does need to record each take as a different track and then send me a separate 24 bit Wav of each track -- And again - I am so happy to be a member of MacProVideo -- y'all are THE BEST

I just want to make sure about this. If I have used Space Designer, but I have chosen impulse responses that are included in Logic (just their already made impulse responses), and not tweaked them in any way, then when I save a Copy of the Project, I would think that I do NOT have to check the box "Copy space designer impulse responses to Project Folder" -- am right? In other words, is this box only for impulse responses that you have tweaked to make your own?
