I'd love to know what the work around is as I've got about two hours of jam mixes ready to lay down and I'm ready to go to the next step now...I think I might be hacking my own system but so far I like the way it's working, the felxibility and ability to get a live feel and jam parts to electronic music is desired for me, and to be able to semi capture the arrangements...Then to have the matrix editor to add also - I'm not sure how or even if.. what I'd even end up with...some tracks with audio recorded and some midi sequences playing the virtual instrument parts..and then some way to merge them as one..I'm relying on the "PATTERN MODE, and "MUTE" for operating Ultrabeat also..using the keyboard to switch sequences and mute at the same time..so "bounce" would not be able to record that...at least i don't think it will..I'm trying to get a method that works both ends against the middle...a live "jam" usingh Live and rewire, combined with the Logic, virtual instruments , Matrix editor, midi sequences, that could also be bounced...and somehow matched up, or merged with the "work around" recorded tracks. I'd appreciate any tipos and tricks in advance!!:)) I'm wondering if "M" program from Cycling 74 might be useful in this also..?

Hello Down there! I'm out on a space ship called Logic/Live heading for somewhere across the cosmos to a electronic music ferstival called Technoshera! I hope that one day i will be able to perform something there myself. meanwhile I continue to tinker in the space engines. I have Ultrabeat humming along with seperate aux tracks each with a delicoius FX sound on it, and I've got four sequences programmed with "program mode" and "mute" mode set to be operated by the Remote SL automap keyboard. Rewire allows the two programs to talk to each other and within limitations of each program - I've managed to record someting that plays back from both programd at once...at least i think so... I've also taken pre-recorded wave files I've made and "processed them in Live" to be one set of sounds, with Logic having Sculpture, ESX24, EVOC and Space designer on the other side. I like the idea of having a sort of *performance mode* by using Ultrabeat in a way to sort of hit keys to set sequences or mute notes *on the fly* rather that to fix notes in advance in the matrix editor or however it's done...but the problem is - -Recording - Ultrabeat will not record into Live and live will record into Logic but Logic requires bouncing which means no using Ultrabeat in the way described...Steve, you mentioned a way to use cheap work around pluggins to be able to get a virtual instrument in Logic to record into an audio track. Is it possible to describe this now...or do you want to wait for the *Tips N Tricks" video? My main interest is how to create form and structure and progressions for electronic dance and ambient music when there is such powerful performance capability to the new *tools* that both Logic and Live have built in. How to create interesting structures with as much improvizational flexibility as possible before "committing" to the song structure and then..how to get good drum tracks to line up in timing with the other designed sounds...maintaining as much organic 'feel" to the structure evolving as possible using such mechanical tools. hope this is clear enough!

I'm using Logic in *performance mode* - with Ultrabeat set to change sequences with the midi controller. At the same time I'm triggering other presets in Sculpture or Esx24. This affords me the way I like to work..."jamming* the sounds and parts into a rough composition. The problem is ( and I've asked the question before) is that, it seems from all I can understand here...that Logic doesn't really give me the ability to simply record what I'm hearing, right here and now, what I'm hearing in the headphones, improvising what I'm playing!?. To just be able to hit the record button and capture what is heard as it is being improvised. I've gone about it the other way...putting midi notes into the matrix editor, and then using the "bounce" record feature. To me, this does not allow for the musical flexibility that I'm looking to capture. I was told there is a way to use "side chains" or a thrid party software to be able to route the audio signal into an audio track which can then be recorded. Would someone please give detailed step by step instructions for how to do this...what software, etc? I want to finally get over this hurdle to capture what I'm hearing. secondly, I am going through REwire into LIVE. Live can hear the midi controller but I guess not the virtual instruments in Logic -? I have both programs working in performance mode but how is it possible to get both to record simultaneously so that at the end of the jam, everyhting is recorded, in one, or both programs seperately if that's all that is possible? please give step by step procedure if you can..I would greatly appreciate it. Recording Logic's virtual instruments seems to be not easily do-able, as if the sounds are relatgated to be heard but not recorded without seeminly restrictive conditions that almost render them unusable, except by very strict methodical, mecahical methods. I could be wrong about this. but There must be ways to use logic and live together - with the kind of improvizational power that performance mode seems to offer, and to be able to record and capture the "jam" on the fly... just hit the record button and play music and then hit the stop button and have what you just heard, recorded in both applications. IS this possible? I hope someone has some answers..I have to say I love what I'm hearing and how it's flowing....but as of yet, it remains trapped inside the box. Thanks in advance Odessaflyer

I'm currently in Kiev Internet but I know I can download it here somehow. !)Are there any certain steps to how you record with Wiretap Pro...in terms of exactly how you do it? 2) Are you recording all instrumenst/virtual Instruments as one track? or can you seperate your virtual instrumenst to seperate tracks as you improvize and record? 3) is there any way to record midi notes as Ultrabeat is playing the pattern selected...or can this only be done mechanically by using the regions of midi noites placed one at a time into the matrix editor? By the way, I did purchase Tips N Tricks...but as of yet have not figured out how to access it..I'm not even sure what I did wrong on the day I bought and downloaded "something" Back to Logic...I have Ultrabeat, Sculpture and ESX24 all set up routed to Aux channels each with effects, triggering the pattern mode and mute...what I hear in my headphones is great....now if Wiretap Pro allows to capture the basic improvizations, from there it seems it would be possible to edit and fine tune final tracks...or use the matrix editor?

I'm using Logic as the master and Live as the slave. I've had some success with getting the two programs to connect with each other. Wuill you please give an over view of how best to set up the two programs. It would be ideal if both programs could record the midi notes and audio from each other but it doesn't seem possible. Please explain what is possible. Can Wiretap Pro help in the recording of these two programs simultaneouslly? Again, I improvize using both programs at once...but am trying to solve the recording of what I hear in both programs together...Live allows for a midi track to re-routed and recorded as an audio track...I wonder of wiretap pro could be used to get Logic's virtual instruments to Live's midi track?

This is a post I regret to list here - but am not sure where else to ask. Recently, while traveling overseas, I had my Mac G4 stolen with Logic pro 7 and dongle included...also Live 6, and several of the Mac pro video Tutorials that were not backed up on my laptop in the US. ( I do have the installation disc for logic. ) I don't know how, or if, or when, I will be able to replace all of the expense of new computer, etc, etc...but I am writing to ask: 1) can someone give me the best and most direct contact for Apple to find out if there is any chance to get a new dongle or some replacement for Logic pro 7 without having to spend the 1000$ all over again, even when I have the original disks. Unfortunately the book with my serial # for Logic is gone also. secondly, I need to know if it's possible to get download copies for some of the video tutorials from Mac Pro Video again? I do have some of tyhe tutorials on another compter in the US and will be there in less than one week - but the latest Tips N Tricks, Sculpture tutorial and Live 6 Tutorial i do not have on the other computer. Tuba synthesis would be a great tutorial providing you can show how to construct a great song from it using the various "tools"ALL in combination to do it - Ultrabeat sequencer, regions, step sequencer in action, Hyper editor, and piano roll editor ALL used together to make that tuba song scream, and flow like Igor know's how to play it live!:)

Steve... ..an impressive expose on the Tuba! Where I am right now ( Ukraine) sometimes I hear the old Instruments I've never even seen and accordian players sometimes playing more odl Russian music - interestingly enough - -some of the very catchey pop Russian Disco electronica has some great accordian loops. They really make the song! Tuba loops may have promise:) Not to be facetious - The thread above about using controllers is something I would be very interested in also. Each part of the different tutorials has given something that has great value. Combining more tips in depth with the environemt, the hyper editor - piano roll editor, and step sequencer - perhaps in combination in the process of constructing a song - anyhting that gives more actual tips and tricks for composition in recording/consructing the song itself..seems to be a subject with much more depth than has been covered so far...or at least something I'd like to see. I've just gotten the chance to go over all the tips & tricks tutorials and the ES2 and LOGIC 8 * Tutorial and I find them all to be excellent! Right now I'm in another country - I'm recording weird sounds out in the streets using my "Foley-TronicsCapture last take" and bringing these wave files into Logic as WAV. files..I've managed to get them into A Kontakt sampler ( Which will convert any type of file) and spread them out on a keyboard, slice up sections, add plugins, mnngle or remove unneeded noices, etc..but I would like to know: Is it possible to bring WAVE files into The Apple Utility...and then somehow convert them to be used as Apple loops?...more to the point...it seems the ESX24 will convert only certain types of files ( Akai, Giga sampler, etc) but not WAVE files...am I wriong about this? From the tutorials I see that Ultrabeat will import ESX24 files....how can I get wave files of my own design into Logic Virtual Instruments ( Ultrabeat and ESX24) to create my onw percussion or instrument prests "data base"? Hi Rounik Thanks for the info! I managed to get a wav file into the ESX24 but couldn't get the sound to play - I just downloaded a the esx24 tutorial so now I will get this. I'm starting from sounds recorded with HI MD recorder in outdoor environments - I'm trying to get the timbral quality of some sounds using the electret mic. eventually, I want to built my own percussion "kits" any other suggestions here will be appreciated!
