In this course, trainer Joe Albano explains how sound interacts and is modified by the listening environment. Learn the powerful influence of acoustics on our perception and the propagation of sound.
How we hear sound is greatly influenced by where we are physically in relationship to where the sound emanates from. Understanding how sound is shaped, colored and transformed by the listening environment is essential knowledge when designing a studio and recreating acoustical phenomena in sound design and mixing.
In this course, you learn all about the wavelength, absorption, reflection, transmission of sound in the real world. You also learn all about phase, polarity and interference and how these physical properties determine why sound “sounds” the way it does!
From there, expert engineer Joe Albano dives into phenomena like Comb Filtering, the Haas Effect, Standing Waves and other phenomena that can impact direct and reflected sound. The final two sections in this course zoom in on Room Treatment and Sound Proofing - essential knowledge for anyone designing or modifying a listening space or designing their own studio.

A great, informative class if you can keep up. Reading copy, there's no pauses to keep up so you're constantly rewinding. Even if this were an actual class, you'l constantly ask the teacher to repeat himself. If someone's gonna give that many facts in a short period of time, at least publish the script you're reading from. But still greatly informative...
Joe Albano has done another great job in this course! He continues to make the subject matter completely understandable. Each step follows the previous one in a logical and paced manner. The course is comprehensive and no time is wasted on superfluous material. I highly recommend the course!
Joe Albano's Acoustics 103 is fantastic! I have used the information in this tutorial and a few others on MPV in constructing my own home studio and it has been working out well for me. I can't wait to take other courses in this series!
Almost everything you need to know about how sound travels, and how to maximize your listening and working environment. I recommend this course to anyone who wants to mix, even in difficult conditions.
Easy to understand and enough to learn. Starting with the length of a waveform to optimizing your studio. really useful information and the quiz sums up the most relevant points. good job!
Another great course from Joe Albano, my favorite teacher on here. If you are new to acoustics, this is gold. Otherwise its still a great review, and you may still learn a thing or two. Very thorough yet easy to understand.
Spectacular. I've just as much as i would in class at MiU, but i loved to keep my knowledge up-to-date with any teachings of good audio courses as possible
Very informative for anybody who is thinking about making a project studio..
Joe Albano Audio Concepts series is a great one. He strikes a great balance throughout in a very likeable and informative style. This course, acoustics, again finds the right balance between the theory and practical relevant details, demonstrating how these concepts relate to production effects and techniques as well as studio acoustics. Nice visual examples, illustrations. The series builds and is a great primer or review. This is one series I look forward to completing in full.
Some technical information clearly explained, with some simple graphics. Most useful for those who can build or modify a room specifically to be a studio.
I particularly enjoyed this course. It provided very practical advice about constructing a studio and I found that the concepts of acoustics were presented in a clear, understandable manner.
Considering building a new studio in my house, I could now understand better the basement of sound travelling and how to avoid issues that could occur. Great course.
Incredible course. No rambling, just straight to the the point information. Very practical and easy to follow
The Audio Concepts series is one that I will return to on a regular basis so I can continue to absorb all of the material. They are clearly written and presented with a no-nonsense approach. There is so much to learn in the world of audio and I am happy Joe decided to share his expertise with us. The Acoustics course is an important one and helped me understand how to get my home studio sounding better.
Definitely a wealth of information and easy to understand the key concepts. Just as great as the previous 2 courses. Looking forward to the next module.
Great course, just as good as the other ones from this series. Help a lot on how to get the best set up in a room to make your mixes.
