Cubase was one of the original DAWs. Starting on a single 1.4 MB floppy disk in 1990, Cubase has grown to become the only digital audio production program you need to create amazing music.
By Steve H.
When I first encountered Matthew Loel T. Hepworth I was blown away. Here is a guy who not only knows Cubase like he wrote the software himself, but he could also teach it in an fun and informative way. Matthew is the consummate master of all things Cubase and we are very proud and excited to have him as part of our NonLinear Educating team!
Cubase is a grownup DAW that offers the musician and producer an awesome array of highly sophisticated tools: From really easy MIDI recording and editing to slick audio editing and Melodyne-like pitch shifting. Cubase does it all and Matthew explains everything perfectly in a very friendly manner... it’s like having a your very own Cubase expert sitting in the chair next to you!
So whether you’re new to Cubase or a long time user, Matthew explores the arcana of this deep DAW revealing optimized workflows, uncovering noteworthy tips and tricks and taking us on a very well thought out, top to bottom exploration of this amazing piece of music production software. Take it from me, Steve H, you’re going really dig this tutorial!

I am starting out with Cubase Elements 8 and was finding it hard to get a good basic understanding of how and why things work the way they do. Even though this course is based on Cubase 5 and is therefore somewhat different from my own, the broad operation and logic of Cubase remains unchanged and I can't imagine any other instructor being anywhere near as good as Matt in helping me to understand how to use Cubase to best effect. This is an amazing and very thorough course that includes several hours of instruction in short videos of a few minutes each. Given the option, I would gladly award more than 5 stars.
Very well presented, got the basics in looking forward for the next chepter.. Thanks!!!
Excellent tutorial & perfect trainer. One of the best.
I've been using Cubase for years - this course has taught me numerous things and sped up my workflow. Highly recommended. Thank you Matt!
This tutorial is absaloutly helpful and beneficial! I highly reccomand to watch the whole lesson. Thanks Matthew! you rock
Matthew is simply amazing. His approach is aswesome, the content is broken down and simplified, his delivery and enunciation is very clear and understandable unlike some other boring DAW tutorials and I look forward for more from Matthew.
Matthew Loel T. Hepworth not only has the coolest name in the world but is honestly one of the best tutorial guides around! He's seriously amazing for guiding you through step by step. If I had three thumbs I'd give him three thumbs up but thank God I don't have three thumbs...that would be weird.
Matthew is a conscientious and organized educator. I'm using this tutorial with Cubase 6. It's just fine for me! It is helping me with all of the ins & outs of setting up and virtually all of the 'how to' questions I have are being answered.
Cubase 101 is really well done. I'm intimately familiar with several other DAWs and just needed someone who knows Cubase to show me where everything is. These videos were perfect. For me, they weren't too slow, nor did they leave anything critical out. It was just the important stuff presented by someone who knows this program inside and out. Watching the way he works with key commands is really impressive. I've always been pretty into key commands, but there are tons of useful ones in Cubase that I didn't know about before watching these videos.
Cubase 101 is a great tutorial. I like the way Matthew explains it and how he makes it fun and enjoyable to watch. it doesn't get boring. I hope there will be little more in depth tutorials on cubase also. Thanks
Cubase 101 is much better than the other video I bought (knowitall) since it explains the concepts and then demonstrates it for you. Well worth the money. I bought the download for better resolution and not being dependent on my dodgy internet service.
although all the other reviews say it all, I can only say this is the best investment you can make.I will keep these videos close to my side for on-going reference.I find all the books very confusing. If you use cubase go for it, you will not be disappointed. Matthew is GREAT.
This tutorial is very clear and heplful and makes the work with Cubase5 fun and easy to learn! M.Hepworth has a great way of explaining all the small and importent details. if you are a beginner, this might be the best tutorial for you to sart cubsase 5 with .
This is by far the best tutorial I have ever purchased.I have been using cubase for years and this tutorial totally opened doors and taught me tips and tricks I had no idea about.Totally worth the money and the time!!! I only hope there's more to come from Matt,he's a great instructor.I can't recommend this enough to any cubase users out there...i wish I had this years ago!
This was an excellent tutorial on Cubase 5. The tutorials were presented really well by Mr. Hepworth. All the information was clearly explained and displayed; and is very easy to follow and remember. I was a beginner to intermediate user of the program and this program helped me become a competent and confident user of Cubase 5. I have tried other Cubase tutorial videos and none compare to this one. The presenters were simply not as engaging as Mr. Hepworth. As you know a class will only be as good as it's teacher. Thanks Mac Pro Video! Keep em coming!!!
A great overview tutorial, I would like to see an advanced level course now. Thanks.
Excellent. Well worth the minimal cash to have so much information available, and see all the nuances and features of the product. Unless you have a lot of experience, or a mentor close at hand, this is a "must have" if you want to make the most of Cubase 5.
This was an amazingly engaging tutorial. I went from knowing nothing about Cubase when I started, to feeling very comfortable with the program when I finished. This tutorial was so good that I was actually quite sad when I reached the final video :) I would love to see more from Matt on Cubase for more in-depth topics. Thanks for these videos!
Matt was great! This is one of the best tutorials I have ever purchased!! It get's the beginner working fast and smart right away.
The human mind . . . At least not my human mind, cannot absorb the information necessary to work with Cubase . . . Not all at once. It's better to make a lot of small trips into Cubase-ology. If your human mind is like my human mind, Matt will make each excursion an exercise in creative optimism, rather than the rambling pit of confusion I experienced when I tried to learn it on my own. Very easy to follow and useful for step by step instructions through all of Cubase's many functions. A welcome relief when attempting to read the Cubase instruction manual.
This is great! I've gone through, and worked along with, much of the tutorial already. Extremely well organized in short 'bursts' of clear and concise tutorials. I changed my DAW from Logic 9 to Cubase 5, and this tutorial is exactly what I needed to understand and use Cubase! Just an excellent Tutorial to build on understanding from the ground up! Thank you!
If you want to learn Cubase the right way, get this tutorial and hold onto it for dear life! This is by far the best Cubase 5 tutorial out, and trust me...I have all of them!
Hey! I've been watching the videos that are already available online for Cubase (not the Preview videos). I have never been taken so carefully, yet quickly, through from the very basic, clean setup for good Cubase operation. I am SO looking forward to the whole Core Cubase, so I'm sure I'm doing things the best way possible! Very Nice!
